Not Looking Episode 4 – Lance Bass drops by the boys in the gay-themed web series

April 1, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

It’s another week and another episode of Not Looking, the parody of Looking that’s turned out to be just as much a comment on real gay life as the show that inspired it.

And this time it’s special guest star time as Lance Bass stops by for a cameo, alongside the likes of regulars Drew Droege, Justin Martindale and Jason Looney.

Once more it’s a lot of fun, and many will recognise the odd irrational jealousy when a straight female friend ‘cheats’ on you, while one of the boys starts to think that perhaps he shouldn’t have friend zoned his roomie.

Take a look above. The only bad thing about it is that we’ve only got one more episode to come. Take a look at the earlier episodes by clicking here. [Read more…]

My Gay Roommate – Season 3, Ep 3: Coming Out – Things are getting slightly surreal and sexy

March 31, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

My Gay Roommate is a lot of fun. The web series could have gone off the boil with Season 3, when Nick had to find a new roomie, but it’s actually gone from strength to strength.

Now he’s all moved in and it’s time for some revelations, not least that new roommate Ed has some rather unusual friends. There’s also time for a silver daddy sheriff (with the episode getting a slightly surreal western edge) and some rather hot underwear yoga.

And as the title of the episode someone is coming out. We won’t say which of the characters are involved, but if you’re a fan of man-on-man lip smacking, make sure you watch through right to the end.

We can’t wait for episode 4 when we’ll find out what happens next! [Read more…]

Not Looking Episode 3 – Drew Droege looks for love in all the wrong places in the gay web series

March 24, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

The Looking parody, Not Looking, continues with the third of its five episodes. This time the focus shifts to Drew Droege’s Danton, who thinks he dealing with getting a little bit older as a gay man in an age obsessed world – even if he’s not going to reveal his actual age.

However dating doesn’t get easier when you get older, as Danton discovers when he finds guys who are more of a mess than he is.

Not Looking is certainly turning out to be fun, and to be honest, it’s probably as attuned to modern gay life as the HBO show that inspired it, exploring it in a much briefer time but with almost as much insight (but then, Looking’s insight was a bit dodgy at times anyway. Take a look at the latest episode above.

Little Horribles Gay Web Series – Inside the life of a self-indulgent lesbian

March 24, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Little Horribles has had a fair amount of success. The web series has gained the attention of the likes of Sarah Silverman, and many others have been impressed by this trip into the ”darkly comedic web series following the poor decisions of a self-indulgent lesbian.’

Written and created by Amy York Rubin, the show ‘chronicles all those things that really aren’t that big of a deal and follows Amy as she navigates her thirties in Los Angeles. Little Horribles rips apart and laughs in the face of those painfully uncomfortable moments that no one wants to remember, but everyone does.’

The entire first series is now online and you can watch it above. It’s a surprising witty and compulsive series with a smart voice and a lot of great talent involved. You can find out more over on the show’s website. [Read more…]

Gays: The Series – Episodes 3 & 4 of the Girls homage web series premiere

March 22, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

gays-the-series
Calling your show ‘Gays: The Series’ is a slightly bold move, but it’s almost surprising someone hasn’t done it before. The one that’s done it is a web series about friends in New York. A couple of months ago the first two episodes were released, and now they’ve been followed by episodes three and four, with premiered on March 16th.

And you can watch all the episodes so far below!

The release has been deliberately chosen to coincide with the US launch of a new series of HBO’s Girls, although the makers are keen to point out that they hope Gays will reach a similar, if broader, crowd. Though the lead characters can be defined as gay, ‘the series aims to transcend labels, rather conveying the struggles that any group 20-something friends faces when living and working in NYC. Episodes three and four take us deeper into the lives of this relatable, flawed and funny group.’

“I wanted to create a show that followed the lives of four men who happened to be gay, but the show was actually about the bigger universal aspects of life that all of us people deal with: love, work problems, friendship, family, etc.,“ remarks Peter William Dunn, the native New Yorker who conceived and penned GAYS. “The most fascinating thing with people is that we’re all so different, yet we’re all so shockingly the same That’s what I hope viewers will take away from the show, the realization that the LGBT characters in GAYS are relatable, real and emotionally accessible to everyone, no matter sexual orientation or gender identity/expression.”

You can find out more over on the show’s website, after watching the episodes below. [Read more…]

Project: Phoenix Trailer – Former gay porn stars, Catwoman & Sherilyn Fenn do a zombie web series

March 22, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Project: Phoenix looks like an interesting confection, which you can see above in the zombie web series’ trailer. Just the site of Twin Peaks Sherilyn Fenn is enough to get our attention, but it looks like it’ll have more to offer.

As gay porn director and Project: Phoenix editor Jasun Mark tells JoeMyGod, ‘Project: Phoenix which is a sort of zombie/military sci-fi web series that stars a bunch of pretty big names including former Catwoman Lee Meriwether, gay Australian rugby star Ian Roberts, Sherilyn Fenn from Twin Peaks and even a small role played by former gay porn star Jeremy Bilding (who later became straight porn star Ryan Driller.) It’s written and directed by gay actor/writer Chad Darnell who also did Birthday Cake.’

The series premieres April 20th over at projectphoenix.tv. [Read more…]

The Naturalist Short Film – A gay man may be able to genetically modify his sexuality in the sci-fi short

March 19, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Gay sci-fi is still a bit of a rarity, but the short film The Naturalist bucks the trend with it’s thought-provoking look at a dystopian future where the possibilities of science make dangerous choices possible.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘A gay man living in an oppressive society is given the chance to genetically modify his sexuality. He must weigh his loving relationship, his dignity and his survival in this short film that turns the notion of sexuality as “choice” on its head.’

The short screened to acclaim at numerous film festivals, including winning the Brooklyn Film Festival Spirit Award for Short Narrative. Now it’s online, so take a look above. [Read more…]

First Kiss Short Film – Strangers are brought together to make out for the very first time

March 11, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

It seems people like to watch others kiss. Since Tatia Pilieva’s first short film, First Kiss, was uploaded to Youtube yesterday, an astonishing 10 million people have viewed it!

It’s perhaps not too surprising as it’s a surprisingly sweet yet intimate and sensual vid, made more so by the fact the first half doesn’t jump straight into the snogging. It spends some time showing us the 20 strangers who were brought together to document their first kiss on camera.

Most people seem shy and uncertain, and not just because there’s a camera there. However when the lips touch, some get really into it while others remain a touch awkward. And while the two women who’ve been paired up seem quite happy to get kissing, the two guys aren’t quite as comfortable, but do manage a quick peck.

Take a look above. [Read more…]

Not Looking Episode 1 – The gay-themed parody web series gets its first proper ep.

March 10, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Just after Looking debuted on HBO, Funny Or Die released a fun little parody called Not Looking, featuring Drew Droege and friends making gentle fun of the gay-themed show and offering a few salient points at the same time.

Shortly afterwards it was announced they were looking for funding to turn Not Looking into a full web series. Now the first episode is here, offering plenty more to make us smile.

It’s the first of five eps about a group of five gay friends living in Los Angeles, dealing with the vargaries of life – and this time Parker (Jason Looney) drowns his sorrows in pizza while Colby (Justin Martindale) makes an unexpected discovery about his new boyfriend.

Take a look above. [Read more…]

Battlefield Gay Short Film – Looking at what two men really want as they embark on a one-night stand

March 4, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

battlefield-gay-short-filmLast October Aussie director Tim Marshall won the Iris Prize gay short film festival for his film, Gorilla. However that wasn’t he first short that touched on gay issues. At Iris 2012 his film Battlefield was in competition, and now it’s been released online and you can watch it below (potentially NSFW).

In the film: ‘Two young gay men embark on a one night stand. Both with very different understandings of the situation, they struggle to realise the true connection they long for. ‘Battlefield’ is a raw and honest exploration of the way we look for love in our modern world, and how we often wish, and sometimes convince ourselves, we’ve found it.’

It’s a well made and interesting short which screened at various festivals around the world. It focuses on how we try to make things true just because we want them to be, and how doing that can highlight how far apart we can be – even at our most intimate moments.

The prize at Iris is funding and support to make another film, so it will be interesting to see what Marshall does with that. [Read more…]
