No Homo – Supposedly straight guys find a way to get away with acting gay in this short

March 25, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

I’m presuming ‘no homo’ is a real thing some of the younger folk get up to, defined as being something “Said to show that you aren’t gay after doing or saying something that sounded gay.” However this new short suggests that perhaps it it something they want to do, but just don’t want anyone to think they’re gay.

I have to say though, even though I’m gay, I think having a roommate running around touching my ass or randomly licking my ear and then shouting ‘no homo’ would be incredibly annoying.

The acting in this short isn’t always great, but it’s still fun, so take a look above. [Read more…]

Harvey Milk & Matthew Shepard Live On In Moving Anti-Defamation Vid

March 23, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

The celebrate its centenary, the Anti-Defamation League has come up with a short but moving video, imaging what would have happened if lives cut to short by hate crimes had been allowed to continue and make the world a better place.

It’s a neat idea but could have comes across as rather unpleasant and manipulative, but they’ve made it work.

Those featured include Martin Luther King and Anne Frank, alongside gay figures likes Matthew Shepard and Harvey Milk. Take a look above.

The Cousin – Cute gay short film from the collection Sexual Tension: Volatile

March 12, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

A few weeks ago we reviewed Sexual Tension: Volatile,  a collection of gay-themed short films from South American directors Marco Berger and Marcelo Monaco. Now distributor TLA Releasing has posted one of the best shorts, Berger’s The Cousin, for everyone to view.

As we said in our review, ‘The Cousin is about a nerdy guy who goes to visit a relative and ends up sharing a room with another young man. The bookish chap finds it increasingly difficult not to stare at his new friend’s bulge, which seems to be constantly on display, but tries to keep his feeling to himself. In terms of creating sexual tension, this is probably the strongest of the bunch, with the short building a real sense of something going on between the men, but neither one knowing what it is. It’s interesting and intriguing and many will warm to that sense of not being sure about someone else and whether you can make a move or not.’

Greg Louganis & Ian Buchanan Star In Latest Episode Of Old Dogs & New Tricks Web Series

March 11, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

The web series Old Dogs & New Tricks is now well into its second season and is celebrating with a special episode starring Olympic diving legend Greg Louganis, as well as Ian Buchanan, who US viewers will know from daytime series such as Days of Our Lives, General Hospital, All My Children, Port Charles, and Bold And The Beautiful (for which he won an Emmy).

Both special guest stars make the first of multiple appearances in the opening of a epic new two-part episode, ‘Big Fat Gay Wedding,’ which finds the Old Dogs goin’ to the chapel – and one of them is gonna get married!

And who’s the lucky dog marrying former circuit boy ‘Dirk Evans’ (Louganis)?  That’s a secret—one that hasn’t been easy to keep! Louganis will appear in three episodes this season, while Buchanan makes the first of four appearances as Christoph, a Hollywood photographer who focuses in on one of the Dogs.

It’s an epic reunion as well as a wedding, with series regular Amanda Abel returning as singing secretary Lydia Lasker and recurring guest star Bruce L. Hart as scheming Nelson Van Eddy.

Normal Gays – Everyday life gets unusual when it goes gay in a new web series

March 9, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

The new web series, Normal Gays, looks like it could be a lot of fun, giving bite-sized looks at both the normality and eccentricity that can mark gay life. For example, having a conversation about the meaning of words while dressing up in drag, or discussing redecorating your bedroom with more than just your boyfriend in bed with you.

Each episode is only about 90s seconds long each, so they certainly don’t outstay their welcome. It’s just ‘normal gays just talking about normal things’, kind of.

The first three episodes are now available, which you can see above and below.

The 3 Bits – First episode of the new web series has gay guys sorting out an orgy

March 2, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

A few weeks ago, we posted a teaser for the new web series The Three Bits. Now the first episode is here, which in one of its three segments sees some gay guys sorting out having an orgy and the difficulties that poses between friends (and it’s even worse if you’ve got a small dick!). It’s a lot of fun with a good sense of humour, so take a look above.

The idea behind the series is neat, with three separate stories about different characters, allowing you to watch either one or all of them. Writer/directors Max Freeman and Margaret Singer recently told HuffPo Gay Voices, ‘We created the Bits family world in a unique way and let the viewer choose how to experience it. For example, if a viewer is more into Henry’s story than Madison’s, they can go ahead and just watch his episodes. His story can stand independent of the others. But if the viewer wants to see the big, weird patchwork world, they can watch all three. It doesn’t really matter. That’s part of the fun, and that’s something the Internet can do and TV can’t.’

As for the three main characters, they say, “Henry is a gay college kid trying very hard to have a good time. His older sister Roman, also gay, is a former weed dealer trying to get a career in freelance gardening off the ground. And Madison, the oldest, is a mommy blogger determined to prove her rock-’n’-roll cred.”

At the moment only Henry’s Episode 1 story is available, but the others should be coming soon. You can follow the series over at The 3 Bits.

Watch Niagara – Award-winning LGBT-themed short film

February 15, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Last week, Niagara picked up the award for artistic merit at the 6th annual Don Thompson LGBT Film Festival held at the University Of Southern California. And you can watch the stop-motion animated short right here.

The film sees a couple driving along and then stopping so one of them can take a leak. It’s a film with a great ambiguity as to exactly what’s going on and who these people are. The ending leaves things open as to who’s right, who’s wrong and what exactly has just happened.

Take a look above.

The other winners were Conor Fetting-Smith’s documentary, Bingo Night, entertainers earning their keep at bingo games, which took the audience award went to. The gong for LGBT awareness went to Teens Like Phil by Dominic Haxton. (Source: The Advocate) [Read more…]

Take A Sneak Peek At A New Queer Web Series, The 3 Bits

February 7, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Billed as ‘a queer web series about sex, love, booze, drugs, friendship, family and amazing acts of stupidity. But mostly Sex!’ The 3 Bits is gearing up for its first outing by releasing a sneak peek.

The 3 Bits is a show about three siblings, the Bits, who live in Brooklyn, but if this peak is anything to go by it’s largely going to be able hijinks, humour and gratuitous semi-nudity. We also couldn’t help but notice that in this sneak we only really see Henry Bits and not his siblings Roman and Madison.

There’s a reason for that though, as it reflects how writer/directors Max Freeman and Margaret Singer hope you’ll watch the series. They write over at HuffPo Gay Voices, ‘We created the Bits family world in a unique way and let the viewer choose how to experience it.

And Madison, the oldest, is a mommy blogger determined to prove her rock-‘n’-roll cred.”

It certainly sounds interesting, and hopefully we’ll get to see the first of the three initial episodes soon.

Watch Overcoming Adversities as a Gay Teen: One Generation at a Time Film

January 31, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Sometimes simple is best and that’s certainly true of Overcoming Adversities as a Gay Teen: One Generation at a Time, which features interviews with ten gay men aged 15-82, about their life experiences and how they came out. The 87-minute film is definitely worth watching, looking at both how the gay experience has changed over time and also how similar it can be.

Interestingly this feature-length project isn’t from a professional filmmaker, but was put together by a high school senior, Devon Yaffe, who was the task of creating a research project based on a topic of interest.

He decided to look at overcoming adversities as a gay teen, which led to the film above. Yaffe says, “I felt so strongly about my project that there was no turning back, and that deep down I knew this was going to be something life changing. During the process of this project my world had been changed, as my eyes were opened to a community in which I regretfully wasn’t active. Now, after learning so much about this incredible world, I feel I would love to be involved with the community and possibly become a gay rights activist. I am proud of my project and feel that I did, in fact, do it justice. I explored unknown territory for many gay teens. I hope that gay youth all over can see what I have created and be inspired to add their voice to the community.”

It’s well worth watching what is an insightful and interesting documentary that you’d never guess was made by someone who’s yet to leave high school.

Viagra Blue – Gay Short Film

January 30, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

There are all sorts of gay films being made, many of which are well worth a watch. One such film is Viagra Blue, which you can take a look at above.

The award-nominated short sees a young lad lad called Jonny getting a viagra tablet from his father as a present. As you might expect, this leads to a bit of ‘excitement’ on Jonny’s part, which nobody can ignore.

However, while he certainly gets a lot of attention from all sorts of women – from nuns to grannies – he may be after something else. Unfortunately the quality of the embed above isn’t great, but enjoy anyway.
