It almost surprising The Muppets song, Rainbow Connection, hasn’t been used more by the LGBT community, especially in the gay marriage debate – but then, with the anti-same sex marriage lobby saying it will lead to bestiality, perhaps the pro side deliberately decided to steer clear of a song sung by a frog who’s in a relationship with a pig.
Now the song has been re-imagined in a new parody to be more explicitly gay, promoting same sex marriage and even suggesting the world would be a better place if Kim Jong-Un got it together with one of his generals.
The song originally appeared in The Muppets Movie, but has since found a life of its own, being reprised in both The Muppet Show and the recent The Muppets movie. It’s also been covered by the likes of Judy Collins, The Carpenters, Dana Valery, Sarah McLachlan, Kenny Loggins, The Dixie Chicks, Justin Timberlake, Jason Mraz, The Pussycat Dolls, Willie Nelson and Weezer.
