Director Travis Mathews Talks About His Explicit LGBT Movie, I Want Your Love

June 28, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Travis-MathewsTravis Mathews has been making waves in the last year thanks to his sexually explicit debut movie, I Want Your Love, as well as collaborating with James Franco on Interior Leather Bar and also debuting the third in his In Their Room anthology (with a London set docu-film, following ones based in San Francisco and Berlin).

I Want Your Film reaches UK cinemas today (June 28th – read our review here), and we were lucky enough to be able to talk to Travis about his film, its explicit sex, why it got banned in Australia and what he’s hoping people will get the from the movie. [Read more…]

Andrew Garfield Shows Off His Spidey Bulge On The Amazing Spider-man 2 Set

June 28, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

spider-man-bulge
Superhero films have a reputation for visually castrating those heroes who wear figure-hugging costumes (it’s a big things as, for example, for Superman Returns Brandon Routh had to have numerous costumes tests just so studio executives could decided how much or little manhood should be pouching out in his costume).

However it seems that on the set bulges are fully allowed, as you can see from the image above of Andrew Garfield (or perhaps his stunt double) on the set of The Amazing Spider-man 2. He certainly seems excited to be there!

Don’t expect to see this in the movie though, as Hollywood – or at least the family values nuts who would make a fuss – still seem to think western civilisation will crumble if it’s ever suggested that a man has a penis. (Image via MyNewPlaidPants)

Was Hollywood Key To The Supreme Court Gay Rights Victories?

June 27, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Rob-ReinerCelebrities like to support causes, but there’s a general sense that while they some give money, turn up and have their picture taken and say nice things on Twitter, the people of Hollywood don’t really make much difference when it comes to social issues. However that may not have been true with yesterday’s US Supreme Court decisions on DOMA and Prop. 8, where various Hollywood figures were central to the fight.

Back in 2008 a court decision that not allowing gay people to marry was unconstitutional suddenly made same sex marriage legal in California. However a ballot measure in the November elections – Proposition 8 – sought to end that by adding an amendment to the State Constitution saying ‘only marriage between a man and a woman is valid or recognized in California’. It passed with 52.24% of the vote, ending same sex marriage and leaving the thousands who’d already married in a legal limbo.

However campaigners weren’t going to take this lying down. After the measure passed, various campaigners, including director Rob Reiner (This Is Spinal Tap, When Harry Met Sally), met at the Hollywood setting of the Polo Lounge to discuss mounting a legal challenge to Prop 8, arguing that irrespective of an individual state’s constitution, the overall US Constitution guarantees equal protection under the law.

To do that they needed money, and a large part of the seed cash for the legal battle came from David Geffen (the ‘G’ of Dreamworks SKG) and JJ Abrams (Star Trek Into Darkness). Reiner and political strategist Chad Griffin then founded American Foundation for Equal Rights (AFER) to fight the battle.

AFER has since attracted other Hollywood names, such as Milk screenwriter Dustin Lance Black, who joined its board. He also wrote the play ‘8’, about the trial to overturn Prop 8, which saw the likes of Brad Pitt, George Clooney, Martin Sheen, and Kevin Bacon appearing in a staged reading last year, in order to raise money for the fight.

There was another Hollywood figure who was perhaps even more key to the Supreme Court’s decision not to hear the Prop 8 case and that’s Arnold Schwarzenegger. As Governor Of California – and a Republican Governor at that – he took the decision that his administration would not defend the Proposition in court (it would normally be the Attorney General or the Governor who’d be expected to officially defend it). In fact the case that ended up at the Supreme Court was officially known as Perry Vs. Schwarzenegger when it was first filed, but Arnie conceded that Prop. 8 was not constitutional and so refused to fight for it in court.

arnold-schwarzenegger2As a result of Schwarzenegger and his successor Jerry Brown’s decision not to defend the case, the coalition of anti-gay marriage groups behind the original attempts to get Prop. 8 on the ballot got together to defend it. After a huge amount of legal manoeuvring, most of which the Prop 8. proponents lost, the case ended up at the highest court in the US.

The Supreme Court then decided they could not look at the case because those anti-gay marriage groups did not have legal standing to mount the case (as they could not prove they’d been harmed), which essentially meant that the original District Court ruling that Prop 8 is unconstitutional now stands. As a result, same sex marriages should now resume in California soon.

The fact is, if Arnold Schwarzenegger and Jerry Brown had decided to defend the measure in the first place, this question of who had the right to defend Prop. 8 would have never come up. It would also have meant the arguments for the Proposition would have been a lot stronger (many have criticised the anti-gay marriage side’s shoddy lawyering) and the outcome could well have been different.

Many other celebs did their bit too, such as Ellen Degeneres submitting a friend of the court brief to the Supreme Court and Clint Eastwood signing his name to a list of prominent Republicans who support gay marriage.

Of course many, many other people were involved in the fight too, but this really is a case where the people of Hollywood made a difference and that without the likes of Rob Reiner and Arnold Schwarzenegger, there might have been a different outcome yesterday. Tinsel Town certainly didn’t win single-handedly, but it definitely helped.

Rob Reiner also said a few months ago that he’s hoping to direct a film version of 8, which he hopes will help with the equal marriage fight in the rest of the US – so perhaps Hollywood influence in this battle isn’t over yet.

Jared Leto Goes Female For The Cover Of Candy

June 26, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

jared-leto-candyCandy is a magazine ‘celebrating transvestism, transexuality, cross dressing, and androgyny in all its manifestations’, and for their fourth issue, they’ve managed to get a shot of Jared Leto by famed photographer Terry Richardson’s, where the actor and singer has decided to channel his inner Katy Perry.

And as has been pointed out before, Leto would make a very hot woman.

He’ll be seen in female garb later this year in Dallas Buyers Club, where he plays a cross-dressing gay man who becomes involved in Texas electrician Ron Woodroof plan to bring HIV medication across the border into the States during the 1980s, when the US government was dragging its heels on approving therapies. The based on a true story is due out at the end of the year.

Henry Cavill Talks Superman’s Hairy Chest In Man Of Steel

June 24, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Body hair fans were waiting with interest to see whether the nicely hirsute Henry Cavill would be forced to denude his chest in order to play the Man Of Steel. In the end he didn’t have to, despite a history of Hollywood getting the razors out for superheroes (just look at Chris Evans in Captain America).

Cavill’s now talked about that briefly, and whether there was talk of forcing him to get rid of the fuzz. In the end he says it’s something that was important to him, so perhaps he’s got a bit of a body hair fetish too. Take a look at the clip above and a pic of the hairy Henry as Superman below. Oh, and you can watch Cavill working out shirtless for the role here.

Hollywood’s desire for hairless chests isn’t new either, as there’s the infamous story of Jeffrey Hunter when he was playing Jesus in King Of Kings in 1961. It’s said the entire crucifixion scene had to be reshot after test audiences objected to the idea of seeing a hairy-chested Messiah.

June 19, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Jimmy Kimmel Live is renowned for its parodies full of stars, and their latest is all about wanting to Channing all over your Tatum. I’ll leave it up to you imagination as to exactly what that means, but I’ve pretty sure it’s dirty – and the number of things spurting in this video suggests I’m right.

The vid features Jimmy Kimmetl, Jamie Foxx, Kimmel, Olivia Munn, Gabourey Sidibe, Miley Cyrus and, of course, Channing Tatum himself, who obviously hasn’t decided being a new father should prevent him from being sexy!

Oh, and this being Jimmy Kimmel Live, watch out for a brief appearance by Matt Damon. [Read more…]

Chris Evans Is Looking Good In A Captain America: The Winter Soldier Portrait

June 17, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

captain-america-2-chris-evans
Captain America has been given a slightly new look for Captain America: The Winter Soldier, and we’ve got a great new look at it in the picture above (or at least the head part).

As always, Chris Evans is looking good all suited up for the movie, although I have to say, having your his sticking out of his costume probably isn’t the best idea if he doesn’t want them ripped off when battling all manner of supervillains.

Captain America: The Winter Soldier picks-up where The Avengers left off, as Steve Rogers struggles to embrace his role in the modern world and teams up with Natasha Romanoff, aka Black Widow, to battle a powerful yet shadowy enemy in present-day Washington, D.C.

It’s due out April 4th 2014.

Henry Cavill Works Out Shirtless As Soldier Of Steel

June 17, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Man Of Steel may have had a budget of $225 million, but reports have suggested Warner Bros has already made most of that back via promotional partnerships worth a staggering $170 million. One of those is with the US National Guard, which seems to be wanting to recruit as many gay men as possible with a new Youtube promo featuring a shirtless Henry Cavill.

In the vid the Jersey born actor is allergic to shirts, which is good news for us, as we get to see his buff and rather hairy body.

Of course, Man Of Steel is in cinemas now, but enjoy the vid above! [Read more…]

Apropos Of Nothing: Hot Guys Strip Down For Bimbambum Barcelona

June 14, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

bimbambum-summer
I had absolutely no idea what a Bimbambum is, but haven’t seen the video belwo, I had to find out. Turns out it’s a bar in Barcelona, which has splashed some cash on a very hot video featuring some shirt-averse Spanish lads.

Quite frankly I feel a lot more bars ought to produce vids like this to entice the punters, even if I’d be willing to bet few places actually have a clientèle as good looking as this.

Find out more about Bimbambum over at Facebook. [Read more…]
