May 4, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

On May 11th, Tim Burton and Johnny Depp bring their new take on Dark Shadows to cinema. However, the only reason we’re getting that is because Burton & Depp were inspired to make a new version of a creepy late-1960s US TV soap opera they both love.

Now Metrodome is giving us a chance to take a look at that supernatural show, which follows the fortunes of the weird and wonderful Collins family, by releasing a three disc box set containing 20 ‘Barnabas Collins’ episodes of the original Dark Shadows supernatural TV show. It’s out to buy now.

We’ve got two copies of the box set to give away, so that you can get a taste of the supernatural show that inspired the new movie. It’s great fun and if you’d like to try and win one of the two copies of Dark Shadows that we’ve got to give away, answer the question below and fill in your details, then press submit! Win Freud & The Execution Of Private Slovik DVDs

April 20, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

You’d think by now that every great classic film would be available on DVD by now but on Monday 23rd April two unreleased films to UK DVD finally come out: Freud – directed by the legendary John Huston is a magnificent film noir starring Montgomery Clift, whilst The Execution of Private Slovik – an 8 Emmy Award nominated war classic – stars the always brilliant Martin Sheen. And we’ve got a copy of each of the films to give away to one lucky person.

It always amazes me how few Montgomery Clift films people have seen, as he was a superb actor. He was also of course secretly gay at a time when homosexuality was still illegal, something he battled with all his life and which contributed to his alcoholism and early death. Freud was his final leading role, as his declining health made film appearances increasingly difficult after 1962.

The Execution of Private Slovik meanwhile is about the man who in 1944 became the only man executed by the US military since the Civil War for desertion.

If you’d like to try and win the copy of Freud and The Execution of Private Slovik that we’ve got to give away, answer the question below and fill in your details, then press submit! The competition closes on May 3rd, so get answering and good luck!

HOW TO ENTER: Fill in the entry form below and click send. All fields need to be completed correctly for an entry to be valid. This includes your address, which will only be used if you win a prize. Win Acts Of Godfrey On DVD!

April 17, 2012 By Tim Isaac 1 Comment

The unusual and intriguing British comedy drama, Acts Of Godfrey, hit DVD on Monday via Guerrilla Films, and we’ve got a copy of the movie to give away to give away in this Twitter/Facebook comp.

A country house hotel is the setting for a motivational course for successful selling, ‘Win! Only Win!’. Godfrey (out actor Simon Callow), sets the tone by informing us that we have no control over our lives and are merely his pawns in his own elaborate game.

The hapless Vic Timms (Iain Robertson), has been sent on this course by his employers in the hope that he’ll develop some killer instinct. Godfrey has decided that he’s going to reverse Vic’s losing streak with the ladies and get him to seal the deal with Mary MacDalen (Myfanwy Waring) the gorgeous and predatory estate agent. The conference progresses, and like a twisted Agatha Christie novel, a web of connections is revealed between the various participants and past actions crowd in on an increasingly suspenseful present.

Also starring Harry Enfield and Celia Imrie, what really set Acts Of Godfrey apart is that the entire movie is written and performed in rhyme! If you’d like the chance to see whether the film can pull that off (you can read our review here), you can try to win a copy in this comp.

We’re giving you two ways to win! To enter you just need to become a new follower of our Big Gay Picture Show Twitter account and retweet this message and/or if you like our Facebook page before 11.59pm on April 20th, 2012, you’ll automatically be entered to win. Or do both for two chances to win!

March 28, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

It’s impressive enough managing to get one gay film made, so it’s a singular achievement for a gay comedy franchise to make it successfully to part five, especially still managing to extremely entertaining.
