After watching the trailer for Wild Awakening it’s a bit difficult to know what to make. The film heads into full-on melodrama territory, taking its cues from telenovelas, while adding in a fair dose on man-on-man action. I’m not sure whether it’s meant to be funny or not, or whether it’s just a bit camp, but I’d like to find out!
The movie follow promiscuous gay man Toni, who lives with his sister Emma on a horse farm they inherit when their parents died. The foreman of the equestrian facility wants his son Aaron to fall in love with Emma. However, Aaron has a hidden sexual attraction hidden for Toni. There’s a big problem with that though, as Aaron’s dad isn’t going to allow that, as he has no intention of having a gay boy for a son!
Wild Awakening is due out on DVD and VoD in the UK. However, you can get a first taste of this mix of high drama, campness, hot guys and villainous homophobes below. [Read more…]

A Little Lust is, for many people, a promising title. And indeed the movie has been pretty well-received at film festivals – although not purely because of the lust. The movie is due out on DVD and VoD in the UK on March 13th, so ahead of that, it’s worth taking a look at the trailer.
With the likes of Laurence Anyways, I Killed My Mother and Tom At The Farm, young queer director Xavier Dolan has become a favourite of film festivals and cineastes, although his movies have yet to break too far beyond that world. However, he appears to be making a few nods towards his film’s commercial prospects with It’s Only the End of the World, which for the first time in one of his movies has internationally recognised stars with Marion Cotillard, Gaspad Ulliel, Lea Seydoux and Vincent Cassel.
Call Me By Your Name gained a lot of buzz and glowing review at Sundance, with some suggesting that Luca Guadagnino’s gay-themed movie could be a bit of a breakout hit. Now we can get our first taste, as a clipe has been released.
Although gay-conversion therapy has been pretty much completely debunked by science, it still has its advocates and young people are still being forced to go through it, no matter what damage it does. Fair Haven focuses on a young man who’s been through that ordeal, trying to deal with his life afterwards and the competing desires of wanting to please his family and his own real feelings.
Australia has made a lot of good gay-themed movies and shows, and it looks like they’ve got another one on their hands with the four-part series Deep Water, which uses the story of a killer using gay dating apps to also explore gay-bashings in the 80s and 90s that the police pretty much ignored.
The Brooklyn nightlife is getting dangerous in Killer Unicorn, as a mysterious masked killer is stalking the queer clubs and venues. A teaser for the movie has been released, which suggests this may be a bit of strange film, but it might also be a lot of campy fun. Drew Bolton’s movie also features a lot of NY LGBT nightlife staples, such as BibleGirl, Aja, Rify Royalty and Horrorchata.
