August 21, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Two of the films that caused the most buzz at this year’s Cannes featured graphic gay sex, but it was the lesbian-themed Blue If The Warmest Colour walked off with the Palm d’Or. The film has just been given an NC-17 rating in the US, which suggests that while director Abdellatif Kechiche though he might have to cut the movie for a US release, it’s actually going to be released uncut when it hits cinemas on October 25th.

You can taker a look at the trailer above.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘At 15, Adele doesn’t question it: a girl goes out with boys. Her life is turned upside down the night she meets Emma, a young woman with blue hair, who will allow her to discover desire, to assert herself as a woman and as an adult. In front of others, Adele grows, seeks herself, loses herself, finds herself…’ Lea Seydoux and Adele Exarchopolis star in the movie, and it was a lengthy sex scene between the two that got people talking at Cannes. Mr. Angel Trailer – Inside the life of trangender advocate (and porn star) Buck Angel

August 11, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Buck-Angel
There aren’t many porn stars who can be said to be inspiring, but Buck Angel can. Born female, Buck transitioned to male in early adulthood but has never had any genital surgery. When he started in porn he termed himself ‘the man with a Pussy’, which could have led to interest in him purely being about his unusualness.

However Angel has worked hard to show that he is a man even if he doesn’t have a penis, and while there’s no doubt he’s been fetishised to a degree, he’s done it on his own terms. He’s also used his fame to become a staunch transgender advocate, challenging perceptions of what it is to be a transman or woman, and promoting the idea of trans people as sexual beings in their own right and not just for the voyeuristic eyes of others (even if he had worked in porn). The new documentary Mr. Angel looks at Buck and his life.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Shot over six years, Mr. Angel chronicles the extraordinary life of transgender advocate, educator and porn pioneer, Buck Angel. Buck has survived addiction, homelessness, suicide and relentless opposition to his gender expression. Still, he lives his truth without compromise or apology.

‘This feature length documentary explores Buck’s moving story to understand the complexities of someone who overcame incredible obstacles, then shamelessly sought the spotlight and its backlash, to share his message of empowerment. An inspirational story of rare perseverance and an unlikely hero.’ [Read more…]

New Kill Your Darlings Trailer – Daniel Radcliffe is very impressed by Dane Dehaan

August 4, 2013 By Tim Isaac 1 Comment

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QoAeSjhXdOs
Many times with films that have gay themes (and which are looking for a mainstream audience), there’s a tendency to shy away from suggesting there’s anything LGBT about the movie in the trailer. However even in this new 30-second promo for Kill Your Darlings they’re not hiding the fact Daniel Radcliffe’s character is rather impressed by Dane DeHaan.

However if you were hoping for the gay sex scene that got everyone talking at Sundance, you’re gonna have to look elsewhere.

Kill Your Darlings charts how a murder helped shape the lives of a group of young men who went on to become the beat generation. Chronicle star DeHaan plays Lucien Carr, the man who introduced Howl writer Allen Ginsberg (Daniel Radcliffe) to the likes of William S. Burroughs (Ben Foster) and Jack Kerouac (Jack Huston).

During these early, hedonistic days, a man called David Kammerer (Michael C. Hall) fell for Carr, with his infatuation becoming increasingly obsessive and unhinged – the gay Ginsberg once discovered Kammerer trying to murder Jack Kerouac’s cat. It eventually resulted in Carr stabbing Kammerer to death him and going to prison for his murder. The violent event is said to have indelibly changed all the people involved and etched its way into the published works of the Beat writers.

The film is due out October 18th in the US and November 8th in the UK. [Read more…]

Margarita Trailer – Take a look at the lesbian-themed festival flick

July 31, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

After screening at the likes of the London Lesbian & Gay Film Festival and Outfest, Wolfe Video has set an autumn US release for Margarita, and they’ve also released a trailer, which you can see above.

Here’s the synopsis: Margarita the nanny is muse to all: she’s a whipsmart bookkeeper, can fix everything from a hot tub to a smoothie, and could put Martha Stewart to shame with her effortless domestic engineering. Not to mention she’s sexy as a jaguar, sweet as dulce de leche, and regularly piques everyone’s interest…in more ways than one. She’s everything power couple Gail and Ben and their teenage daughter Mali could ask for in a gorgeous young live-in from Mexico.

But when finances shrink and they can no longer afford her, Margarita’s livelihood and the household stability are suddenly on muy shaky ground. Is this a crisis that Jane the saucy law school girlfriend or Carlos the hot Brazilian handyman can solve? Family, friends, and lovers must come together to keep her in town and the “proposals” start flying.

Filmed in a quaint snowy Toronto suburb against a steamy Latin soundtrack, this Canuck dramedy features Nicola Correia Damude (Degrassi: The Next Generation) as scrumptious stalwart Margarita, Canadian television star Patrick McKenna as pothead doctor Ben, Claire Lautier (Elf, Law and Order) as bi-curious mom Gail, and Maya Ritter who also starred in filmmaking duo Dominique Cardona and Laurie Colbert’s first feature Finn’s Girl (Frameline31) as tomboy teen Mali. Produced by gay movie luminary Charlie David (Mulligans, Judas Kiss), Coming Out is a 12-part French-Canadian series, set in Montreal. The gay-themed series is coming to DVD in the US, so take a look at whether it’ll be worth getting hold of a copy above.

Here’s the synopsis: The explosive lives, loves and losses of an intermingled group of Montréalers are explored as they confront the subject of difference. Managing a modern relationship can be a mess. Single? Attached? Married? Divorced? Open? Closed? The most common answer is ‘It’s complicated.’

Get ready to come out with these characters as they negotiate acceptance, prejudice and just how much they’re willing to risk in the pursuit of love and happiness.

Mat (Mathieu Blanchard) is a gay fashion photographer with nothing out of his reach until his ex, Ian (Marc-André Poliquin) resurfaces. Meanwhile, Hugo (Patrick Martin) pursues a secret relationship with Olivier (Sébastien Beaulac), a married father who keeps the closet door firmly shut. And finally, Téo (Dhanaé Audet-Beaulieu), is a young man who turns to drugs and prostitution after a messy coming out to his parents.
