Saturday Church Trailer – A gay, genderqueer African-American teen finds escape in the new musical

January 1, 2018 By Tim Isaac 1 Comment

After getting great reviews at film festivals – including Tribeca, the BFI London Film Festival and Outfest – Saturday Church is getting ready for a wider release. It’s a good time then to take a look at the movie.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘SATURDAY CHURCH tells the story of 14-year-old Ulysses, a shy and effeminate boy, who finds himself coping with new responsibilities as “man of the house” after the death of his father. Living alongside his mother, younger brother, and conservative aunt, Ulysses is also struggling with questions about his gender identity. He finds an escape by creating a world of fantasy filled with dance and music. Ulysses’ journey takes a turn for the better when he encounters a vibrant transgender community, who take him to “Saturday Church,” a program for LGBTQ youth.

‘Ulysses manages to keep his two worlds apart; appeasing his aunt and discovering his passion for the NYC ball scene, and voguing, until his double life is revealed. Ulysses must find the courage to be who he truly is, all while risking losing those he cares about most.’

Saturday Church is out in US cinemas, on demand and via digital platforms from January 12th, 2018. Take a look at the trailer for the movie below. [Read more…]

Excusive: Jesus Meets The Gay Man Trailer – Get your first look at the comic doc about where religion meets LGBT

December 21, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

If you just look at the headlines, you’d think that Christianity and everthing gay were implacable enemies. However the reality is far more complex than that, with million of Christians being supportive of gay rights, and many gay people have rich religious sides.

The documentary Jesus Meets The Gay Man takes a comic look at all this.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘A story of reconciliation, forgiveness and renewal wrapped in Monty Python-like sketches and a jazzy dance number, JESUS MEETS THE GAY MAN is a fun documentary that will have you see Jesus in a new light, while at the same time convincing you to work on your abs! Developed by looking at the questions of what Jesus would have said or done if He had met a gay person, the film aims to bridge the gap between Christians and the homosexual community, who have been at odds on this issue, with critical thinking and humor. In this age of so much information on the Bible and on the topic of homosexuality, can the LGBTQIA and the Christians find forgiveness?’

Breaking Glass Pictures is set to release the documentary on DVD and VoD in the UK on January 9th, 2018. Take an exclusive look at the trailer below. [Read more…]

Permission Trailer – Rebecca Hall & Dan Stevens open up their relationship in the gay-themed film!

December 2, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Although it’s tough to imagine ever getting bored of sleeping with Dan Stevens, that’s kind of the premise of Permission. Or rather, it’s about a couple who begin to wonder if they’re missing out because they’re the only people either has ever been with.

While Stevens and Rebecca Hall have been together for a long time and are about to get engaged, her brother (David Joseph Craig), suggests maybe they should at least try other people so they know they other really is ‘the one’. That leads them to experiment with other people, and as you might expect, as bit of polyamory proves more complicated for their relationship than they expected.

Her brother meanwhile is considering whether his long-term relationship with his boyfriend is ready for them to become parents. As the new trailer shows, it’s a film looking at the complexities of all kinds of relationships, irrespective of what genders are involved.

The movie is due out in the States in February, take a look at the trailer below. [Read more…]

Love, Simon Trailer – Mainstream Hollywood brings us a gay coming of age hero in the form of Nick Robinson

November 29, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

In mainstream movies, the only films that get gay lead characters tend to be prestige dramas that are attempting to get Oscars. However, Love Simon is something a bit special, as it’s a teen coming of age movie that’s getting a release by 20th Century Fox (and was made under their Fox 2000 banner), and happens to be about a young gay man.

The first proper trailer for the movie has arrived, which comes from director Greg Berlanti (the man behind TV’s Arrow-verse).

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Everyone deserves a great love story. But for seventeen-year old Simon Spier it’s a little more complicated: he’s yet to tell his family or friends he’s gay and he doesn’t actually know the identity of the anonymous classmate he’s fallen for online. Resolving both issues proves hilarious, terrifying and life-changing. Directed by Greg Berlanti (Dawson’s Creek, Brothers & Sisters), written by Isaac Aptaker & Elizabeth Berger (This is Us), and based on Becky Albertalli’s acclaimed novel, LOVE, SIMON is a funny and heartfelt coming-of-age story about the thrilling ride of finding yourself and falling in love.’

The film is due in cinemas next Spring. Take a look at the trailer below. [Read more…]
