It’s been a couple of years since we last heard about Sacha Baron Cohen’s plans for a movie called The Lesbian. Many thought the film had been abandoned, but it’s turns out it’s still alive and not just that – it’s a musical! That certainly helps explain why it’s taking so long to develop.
Talking to JoBlo recently, Cohen said, “I’m developing a musical called The Lesbian at the moment, which is based on the true story of a billionaire whose daughter tells him she’s getting married to a woman and he offers $65 million to any man who can turn her straight. It’s a true story, but we’re doing the twist on it.”
The movie will be loosely based on the true story of Hong Kong billionaire Cecil Chao, who offered a hefty $65 million reward to any man who marries his daughter, even though she’s a lesbian who lives in France with her wife (and has even has the relationship blessed by a French church).
One of the more interesting things about the tale is that Cecil Chao has never even married himself, so it’s not like he’s an avid believer in the institution, it appears he just doesn’t want his offspring to be gay. It’s also known that despite the massive dowry, his daughter remains on good terms with him.
Sacha Baron Cohen is looking to play the billionaire father, so it’s likely there’ll be some racial changes from real life to the movie.

NakedSword is best known for producing hardcore gay sex, but every so often it’s delved into something a little different, such as when it funded and produced Travis Mathews excellent short film I Want Your Love. The short was still extremely explicit but concentrated on the meaning of casual sex between friends, rather than purely the pumping and grinding.

Many have been inspired by the way Matrix and Cloud Atlas co-director Lana Wachowski has handled her transition to living publicly as a woman. However, it turns out that she’s not the only trans member of the family, as her younger sibling Lilly (previously known as Andy) has also revealed she is transgender.
Last year a crowdfunding campaign was launched for the fourth and final season of the popular gay-themed web show Old Dogs & New Tricks. It’s taken a while, but it’s now on its way and before that a mini-movie, called ‘Where Were YOU When the Rights Went ON?’, has been announced that will be released this June – coinciding with the first anniversary of the Supreme Court’s landmark gay marriage ruling.
Max Landis – son of director John Landis – has made quite a name for himself writing the likes of Chronicle, American Ultra, and Victor Frankenstein. Now he’s moving into the director’s chair himself to tell a gay-themed tale called Me Him Her.
It’s time for another crowdfunded movie campaign, this time for RainBRO, which is seeking $50,000 cover all the pre-production costs and hopefully convice financiers to take a chance of the movie. And if you do help out, you could even get some RainBRO underwear!
While there’s been a lot of comment about whether Finn and Poe Dameron might end up being the Star Wars movie’s first gay couple (based on their bromance in The Force Awakens), it’s not really been mentioned that the franchise could have had a gay character long before that – Luke Skywalker. Although he was shown having some interest in Leia, before he found out she was his sister, he never really had a romance of his own, and seemed as interested in men as women.
