Oriented Trailer – Looking into the lives of gay Palestinians in Tel Aviv

August 26, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

oriented-slideIt’s not always easy being a Palestinian, and that’s certainly true for gay Palestinians, who have to survive within a culture that is often very hostile to them (indeed, there have been reports of Israeli security forcing trying to turn gay Palestinians into spies by threatening to out them if they don’t work for them – something that could cost them their lives). However, it’s certainly not all misery and angst for them.

The documentary Oriented looks into this, ‘following the lives of three gay Palestinian friends in Tel Aviv confronting their national and sexual identity.’

The film has screened as Sheffield Doc/Fest and the Los Angeles Film Festival, receiving great acclaim. It’s the debut film from British filmmaker Jake Witzenfeld.

It’s a movie that attempts to show a different side to being gay and Arab, taking us into the lives of three men whose lives may be very different from what you expect.

As one of the documentary’s subjects, Abu Seif, told Variety. “I think a lot of people who saw the movie changed their minds about what it is to be a gay Arab and a gay Palestinian. To anyone who wants to listen, I am ready to explain. Get out from your bubble, and let the funky Arabs open your mind.”

Take a look at the trailer below. [Read more…]

Pierce Brosnan Wouldn’t Mind A Gay James Bond, But Can’t See It Happening

August 26, 2015 By Tim Isaac 1 Comment

pierce-brosnan-james-bondThere’s been a fair amount of talk over the years about whether there will ever be a black James Bond, but what about a gay one? Skyfall gave us a bit of mild man-on-man flirtation, but there was never any proper suggestion 007 would be LGBT on screen.

However there’s one man with a bit of Bond knowledge who wouldn’t mind a gay secret agent on screen, although he also can’t see it ever happening due to the way Hollywood works.

When asked about it by Details, former Bond, Pierce Brosnan, initially said, “Sure. Why not?.”

However, he added that, “Actually, I don’t know how it would work. I don’t think Barbara [Broccoli, the James Bond producer] would allow a gay Bond to happen in her lifetime. But it would certainly make for interesting viewing.”

Who knows though, maybe one day we’ll get a gay, black James Bond. Brosnan may not be able to see it happening, but we shouldn’t give up hope.

Velociraptor Trailer – Two young men reach the eve of apocalypse in the gay-themed film

August 25, 2015 By Tim Isaac 1 Comment

velociraptor-slideNot too many gay-themed movies can be described as ‘apocalyptic’, but Velociraptor take us to the edge of doom anyway!

Here’s the synopsis: ‘On the eve of an imminent apocalypse, two buddies – one gay, one “undecided” – wander the streets. Deep in conversation, Alex and Diego bond while sharing their fears and desires about sex and intimacy. Once they make their way to Alex’s bedroom, the true nature of their relationship is made clear.

‘The strength of their unbreakable friendship helps them test the limits of trust and loyalty while pushing one another into exciting new realms of sexual exploration. A smart, heartfelt mix of drama, science fiction and romance, Velociraptor is a brilliant evocation of what it means to be young man, exploring male friendship and desire in an entirely fresh way.’

The award-winning movie will be released in the US and UK in November. Take a look at the trailer below. [Read more…]

Eastsiders: Season 2 Trailer – The hit gay-themed web series is coming back

August 25, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

eastsiders-s2-slideEastsiders caused quite a stir when it debuted in 2013. It’s taken them a while to sort out a second season. Even after a crowdfuding campaign in April 2014 it’s taken them over a year to get it to us, but now the show is gearing up to debut a fresh set of episodes. And to prepare us, a trailer has arrived.

Eastsiders stars Van Hansis (As the World Turns) and Kit Williamson (Mad Men) as a gay couple trying to stay together in the aftermath of infidelity, with Season 2 hinting at an exploration of open relationships.

Creator Kit Williamson comments, “Jealousy is only interesting to a point. What happens when it’s removed from the equation? There are so many different ways human beings connect with each other, and there is no one way that is right for everybody. The show explores many different kinds of relationships, from ex-boyfriends getting back together, to friends starting a new relationship, to a lesbian couple with two kids finally getting married.”

As well as Williamson and Hansis, Season 2 brings back the likes of Constance Wu and Stephen Guarino, alongside Willam Belli, Manila Luzon, Drew Droege, Traci Lords, Jai Rodriguez, Sean Maher, and Matthew Wilkas.

Season 2 will debut on Video On Demand on September 15th, but you can check out the trailer below. [Read more…]

New Poster For Stonewall Movie Debuts

August 25, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

stonewall-posterAlthough there’d been a little grumbling about Stonewall ever since the synopsis was released, the upcoming film about the riots that helped spark the moderns gay rights movie walked into a firestorm of controversy when the trailer came out.

It was immediately his with accusations of whitewashing and erasing the importance of trans* people by having the film centred on a young, gay, cisgender white man.

Although director Roland Emmerich and star Jeremy Irvine stepped forward to defend the movie, many still weren’t happy.

However, no one has actually seen the film yet, and to remind those curious about it a new poster has arrived via Out, which seems to deliberately push Irvine to one side and instead give space to people of color and genderqueer characters.

The movie itself reaches US cinemas on September 25th.

50 Years of Fabulous Trailer – Taking a look at the LGBT charity the Imperial Court of San Francisco

August 24, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

50-years-of-fabulous-slideDid you know that San Francisco has an Emperor and/or Empress (depending on the year)? However this isn’t your usual dictatorial regent, as they’re democratically elected.

The candidates all want the crowns bestowed by the Imperial Court of San Francisco, which is the oldest surviving LGBT charity organisation in the United States. Now 50 years old, it’s a great time for a documentary that looks at its history and what it’s up to now – it’s certainly an interesting story, with the organisation raising loads of money for good causes, all while having a good time (it’s also inspired at least 68 other councils around the world).

It’s getting it’s much deserved documentary with 50 Years Of Fabulous, from filmmakers David Lassman and Jethro Patalinghug, who are now looking for completion funding through the Seed & Spark website. They’re hoping for $22,500 but they’ve only got a few days left to raise it – so now is your chance to help.

You can take a look at the extended trailer for the movie below. [Read more…]
