Acclaimed lesbian director Monica Treut returns with the release of Wolfe Video’s LBGT drama OF GIRLS AND HORSES, available on DVD and digitally in the US on June 30th.
Here’s the synopsis: ‘Featuring a quartet of talented stars, this under-stated drama from prolific lesbian filmmaker Monika Treut deftly unfolds the coming-of-age of rebellious teen Alex (popular German TV star, Ceci Chuh). Sent away by her mother to a horse farm in the country, Alex keeps up her bad girl ways but is gradually enamored with the horses – and with the resident lesbian riding instructor, Nina (the stunning Vanida Karun) who is taking a break from her partner Christine (the equally beautiful Ellen Grell). As Nina maintains her boundaries and tries to help Alex find purpose and maturity at this crucial moment in her life, the arrival of privileged young equestrian Kathy (Alissa Wilms) presents new challenges and opportunities for Alex as she grapples with her longing for love and connection. A beautiful drama.’
Writer/director/producer Treut (My Father Is Coming, Gendernauts, Dr. Paglia) is a pioneer of international LBGT cinema, and returns once again with a transcendent story of lesbian love, innocence, and the universal struggle to find a place in the world.

With Jane Fonda’s new Netflix series, Grace & Frankie debuting, the actress has been chatting with Pridesource about the show, which sees her and Lily Tomlin playing women dealing with the fact their husbands (Martin Sheen and Sam Waterston) have both come out of the closet and run off with one another.
Andy and Lana Wachowski haven’t been having too much luck on the big screen, with the likes of Speed Racer, Cloud Atlas and Jupiter Ascending underperforming. However there’s high hopes for their new series Sense8, which brings a splash on high concept sci-fi to Netflix’s original shows.
This one has a slightly odd title, as it’s bound to remind many people of the 1978 movie The Boys From Brazil. However you couldn’t get two more different movies, as while the 70s flick was about evil Nazis trying to restart the Third Reich, the new one is a rom-com about gay guys who are in the closet.
It’s a peculiar thing that in the US at the moment some gay couples have found themselves in the odd situation of being able to get married by going to a state which allows it, but then being unable to divorce.
Every year millions of Muslims from around the world travel to Saudi Arabia to complete the Hajj in Mecca, a pligrimage seen as a religious duty which every follower of Islam should complete at least once (if they are capable). However, what if you are gay and wish to go on the Hajj, even though the fact homosexuality is illegal in Saudi, and many Muslims believe being gay is one of the worst sins there is?
One of the big hits of this year’s Sundance was Tangerine, which initially ignited interest due to the fact the whole thing was shot in iPhones, but then had people gushing with praise for its actual content.
In Glee Max Adler played Dave Karosky, the homophobic bully who tormented Kurt but then turned out to be hiding the fact he was gay himself.
A bidding war broke out last week in Hollywood for the sci-fi movie Forever, which has Channing Tatum attached to star.
10 years ago Larry McMurtry and Diana Ossana won an Oscar for their script for Brokeback Mountain. Interestingly despite that success it’s the last feature writing credit for either of them (they’ve been attached to numerous projects but nothing that’s made it to the screen).
