World War Z Superbowl Spot – Everywhere you turn it’s Brad Pitt & zombies!

February 1, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Although World War Z has been hit by delays and major reshoots, there’s no doubt that everything we’ve seen of it so far has looked incredibly cool. Now a few days ahead of the game itself, the movie’s Superbowl TV ad has been released, giving us a fresh look at the zombie mayhem.

The story revolves around United Nations employee Gerry Lane (Brad Pitt), who traverses the world in a race against time to stop the zombie pandemic that is toppling armies and governments and threatening to decimate humanity itself. Merielle Enos plays Gerry’s wife Karen Lane; Daniella Kertesz is his comrade in arms, Segen.

The movie is due out June 21st 2013 (the reshoots delayed it from a planned Christmas 2012 release), so expect plenty more footage and info before then.

Julia Stiles Joins Michael Pitt & Lily Rabe In Mary Pickford Biopic The First

February 1, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

julia-stilesHollywood loves to delve back into its past for a bit of a biopic, but it doesn’t often go back as far as the silent era. However Mary Pickford is definitely worth making a movie about, as she’s often regarded as the first true movie superstar.

Ryan Simpkins has already been cast to play a young Pickford, with American Horror Story’s Lily Rabe playing the more grown up version. Michael Pitt meanwhile is Owen Moore, Pickford’s first husband, before they divorced and she married the much more famous Douglas Fairbanks.

Now Variety reports that Julia Stiles has joined the cast, playing Frances Marion who was one of the top screenwriters of the early 20th Century. She won Oscars for The Big House and The Champ, and collaborated with Pickford on numerous projects.

Jennifer DeLia is set to direct. The movie is currently looking for distributors at the Berlin Film Festival. The hope is to shoot later this year, by which time the roles of Douglas Fairbanks, D.W. Griffith, Jack Pickford (Mary’s brother), Charlotte Hennessy (Mary’s mother) and Lillian Gish will also have been cast.

Three New World’s End Pics Arrive, And Edgar Wright Talks About The Movie

February 1, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Worlds-End-pic4
There are an awful lot of people out there very excited about The World’s End, the final part of Simon Pegg, Nick Frost and Edgar Wright’s Three Flavors Cornetto trilogy (following Shaun Of The Dead and Hot Fuzz). Now a trio of new images have arrive, two from Empire and one via IGN.

IGN also had a chat Edgar Wright about the movie, which he describes as,”It’s a boy’s night out movie gone wrong.”

He also talked about how the three movies fit together, saying, “We have tried to make them like a thematic trilogy. Because Hot Fuzz is slightly different from Shaun but they share aspects, and this too. They’re all different stories with different characters but they have thematic similarities that me and Simon are slightly obsessed with. But Shaun was about where we live – our neighborhood in North London. And then Hot Fuzz was about going back home. Home for me and Simon in terms of a small town. But this one is about looking backwards. It’s more nostalgic. I think a lot about my adolescence and my teenage years and things I’d do differently. I have grand fantasies of going back in time and doing things better. Back to when I was 15 or 16. So there’s an element of that – whether it’s healthy to look or go backwards. That’s kind of what the theme of the film is.”

As for the map in the pic above, Wright says, “That’s his map of the pubs in Newton Haven, which he had as a teenager. You can see on the map that nine pubs are crossed out because when they were teenagers they only got through nine of the 12 pubs. And he’s kept that map. Simon went through a goth phase. If you’ve read Simon’s autobiography there are pictures of him as an Echo and the Bunnymen/Sisters of Mercy fan. And he did dye his hair black, so we thought that was a way to make him look distinctly different. The funny thing is I think he kind of pulls it off. He doesn’t look too tragic to me.”

There’s also been much talk about the supernatural threat the friends on a pub crawl face, but Wright is keeping quiet about that. “It’s not that there are major twists,” he says, “I always feel there are some films that I wish I’d seen cold, so I’d love to try and retain a little bit of mystery.”

Take a look at the Empire pics below as well as the captions that came with them.

Walter Salles Takes On Man In The Rockefeller Suit

February 1, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

walter-sallesSince his breakthrough with Central Station in 1998, Brazilian director Walter Salles has brought us the likes of The Motorcycle Diaries, Dark Water and On The Road. Now he’s lining up a new gig as he’s in talks to helm The Man In The Rockefeller Suit, according to Variety.

Fox Searchlight are backing the movie, which is still in the very early stages as they’re yet to even find a screenwriter to adapt Mark Seal’s 2011 book of the same name.

The movie will tell the true-life tale of German-born Christian Karl Gerhartsreiter, who headed for the US as a teenager in the late 1970s. Shortly afterwards he began assuming a variety of identities, eventually settling on Clark Rockefeller, the ‘reluctant scion of the family with the country’s most famous name’. He used the name as well as his skills at passing himself off as something he wasn’t in order to climb the ranks of upper-crust East Coast society.

He lived in luxury, landed prestigious jobs on Wall Street, and even has a 12-year marriage with businesswoman Sandra Boss, who was unaware of his true identity. However the con fell apart in the when Boss divorced him and he was arrested for kidnapping his daughter. An even darker aspect of his past was revealed in March 2011, when Gerhartsreiter was charged with the 1985 murder of a Californian man named Jonathan Sohus.

Plot Synopsis For Fast & Furious 6 Arrives

February 1, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

fast-and-furious-6-pic1Universal is hoping that the sixth instalment in the Fast & Furious franchise will match the popularity of the earlier movies when it’s released this summer. For a long time we’ve known they were shaking things up slightly by bringing the action to Europe, but we haven’t had many details of the actual plot.

Now the official synopsis for the Justin Lin directed movie has arrived, giving us a few more details on exactly why they’re on this side of the Pond.

Here it is: ‘Vin Diesel, Paul Walker and Dwayne Johnson lead the returning cast of all-stars as the global blockbuster franchise built on speed races to its next continent in Fast & Furious 6. Reuniting for their most high-stakes adventure yet, fan favorites Jordana Brewster, Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson, Sung Kang, Gal Gadot, Chris “Ludacris” Bridges and Elsa Pataky are joined by badass series newcomers Luke Evans and Gina Carano.

‘Since Dom (Diesel) and Brian’s (Walker) Rio heist toppled a kingpin’s empire and left their crew with $100 million, our heroes have scattered across the globe. But their inability to return home and living forever on the lam have left their lives incomplete.

‘Meanwhile, Hobbs (Johnson) has been tracking an organization of lethally skilled mercenary drivers across 12 countries, whose mastermind (Evans) is aided by a ruthless second-in-command revealed to be the love Dom thought was dead, Letty (Rodriguez). The only way to stop the criminal outfit is to outmatch them at street level, so Hobbs asks Dom to assemble his elite team in London. Payment? Full pardons for all of them so they can return home and make their families whole again.

‘Building on the worldwide blockbuster success of Fast Five and taking the action, stunts and narrative to even greater heights, Fast & Furious 6 sees director Justin Lin back behind the camera for the fourth time. He is supported by longtime producers Neal H. Moritz and Vin Diesel, who welcome producer Clayton Townsend back to the series.’

There’s still no info on how the likes of Gina Carano fits into all this, but we’ll certainly find out when it’s released this May.

Jeremy Renner Will Kill The Messenger In A New Drama

February 1, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

jeremy-renner-hurt-lockerJeremy Renner is a busy boy, even if he’s yet to truly establish himself as a big box office name (Avengers and Mission Impossible 4 don’t really count). Now he’s lining up a new project, with Variety reporting that he’s set to star in and produce Kill The Messenger.

Michael Cuesta is set to direct from Peter Landesman’s script, which is based on investigative journalist Gary Webb’s stories alleging that the CIA was involved in the spread of crack cocaine in Los Angeles. Webb killed himself in 2004 after being subject to an alleged smear campaign following his three-art series of articles that linked the CIA to a scheme to arm Contra rebels in Nicaragua and import cocaine into California.

The current plan is to shoot the movie this summer, as long as funding can be found (they’ll be looking for it at the Berlin Film Festival over the next couple of weeks).

Jon M. Chu To Direct Young Adult Sci-fi Matched

February 1, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

jon-m-chuWhile we’re still waiting to see how Jon M. Chu did with G.I. Joe Retaliation, he’s already lining up his next movie, as THR reports that he’s is in talks to direct Matched for Walt Disney Pictures. The filmmaker replaces David Slade (30 Days of Night), who was in talks to direct back in September, but that didn’t work out.

The film is based on Ally Condie’s young adult novel that is set in a future where the government controls every aspect of people’s lives – what they read, what to believe in and who they should fall in love with. The main plot follows a young woman who is set up with an arranged romance, which she turns down to forge her own path.

Michele Mulroney and Kieran Mulroney (Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows) wrote the adapted screenplay. Chu remains attached to the reboot of Masters Of The Universe, but it’s believed that project is still in the early stages, so Matched is likely to be in his next film.

Kenneth Branagh May Take On Disney’s Live-Action Cinderella

February 1, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

kenneth-branaghThor certainly opened a lot of doors for Kenneth Branagh, including rebooting the Jack Ryan franchise with Chris Pine and Kevin Costner. Now he’s in talks for another huge project, as Vulture reports that Branagh is in talks to take over Disney’s planned live-action version of Cinderella from the recently departed Mark Romanek.

Cate Blanchett is still attached to play the wicked stepmother, although the production has still not found its title character yet. Back in November actresses such as Saoirse Ronan (The Host), Alicia Vikander (The Seventh Son), and Gabriella Wilde (Carrie) were said to be in contention for the role, but it’s not known if they’re still in the running.

If a deal is finalided, Branagh will direct from a screenplay by Chris Weitz, who rewrote the original draft by Aline Brosh McKenna. The studio hopes to start shooting in London this autumn.

Watch Disney’s Oscar Nominated Short Paperman

January 31, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

It’s nice to know that Disney hasn’t completely given up on hand-drawn animation and that they’re also still able to come up with innovative shorts. With Paperman nominated for a Best Animated Short Oscar, the full film has now been put online, presumably in the hope as many Oscar voters will get to see it as possible.

It’s a sweet and charming black and white mix of hand-drawn and CG animation, telling the story of a young man’s attempts to get the attention of a girl he previously met on a train platform.

It’s sweet, charming and stylish, so take a look.

First Look At Tom Hiddleston & Tilda Swinton In Only Lovers Left Alive

January 31, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

only-lovers-left-alive-pic1Any new movie from indie king Jim Jarmusch (Dead Man, Broken Flowers) is intriguing, but the idea of him turning to the world of vampires has gotten a lot of people even more interested. Now the first photo from the movie, Only Lovers Left Alive, has arrived, featuring Tilda Swinton and Tom Hiddleston.

Hiddleston stars as Adam, an underground musician who’s deeply depressed by the direction of human activities, who reunites with his long-lost lover from centuries ago, Eve (Tilda Swinton), although their reunion gets disrupted by Eve’s rowdy sister (Mia Wasikowska). John Hurt and Anton Yelchin also star.

No release is set at the moment, but hopefully we’ll get to see the movie later this year.
