Everybody’s Talking About Jamie Trailer – The hit gay, drag West End musical is coming to the screen

October 12, 2020 By Tim Isaac 3 Comments

When Everybody’s Talking About Jamie headed to London’s West End – after debuting at Sheffield’s Crucible Theatre – many wrote off its chances of success. After all, it was an increasingly rare thing – a musical not based on a known property (although loosely based on a documentary), with a gay lead character and original songs. It was a big risk but it’s proven a massive success, playing for two and a half years at the Apollo Theatre before Covid-19 resulted in a pause – but it’s due to return to the stage in November with socially distanced audiences.

It’s also now spawned a screen version, which has just released its first full trailer. The movie was originally due to be released towards the end of this year, but like so many films it’s been delayed, with a February 26th, 2021 release date now set. Hopefully it won’t get delayed again

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Inspired by true events, New Regency’s and Film4’s “Everybody’s Talking About Jamie” is the film adaptation of the hit musical. Jamie New is 16 and doesn’t quite fit in—instead of pursuing a “real” career he dreams of becoming a drag queen. Uncertain about his future, Jamie knows one thing for sure: he is going to be a sensation. Supported by his loving mom and his amazing friends, Jamie overcomes prejudice, beats the bullies and steps out of the darkness, into the spotlight.’

An Apology From Big Gay Picture Show

October 1, 2020 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

What can we say, except sorry. As those who’ve visited Big Gay Picture Show in the past will know, there hasn’t been any new content on the site for the past 18 months or so. After six and a half years the site didn’t go out with a bang and there was barely a whimper. It just kind of stopped.

In my defence I can only say that life took over and the various pressures of existence meant that I needed to take a step back and recharge. Unfortunately, that recharge has taken longer than originally planned.

However, the site is now coming back. A few things will be different – there’ll probably be less news about non-LGBT titles and fewer posts in general – but the hope is that will allow us to be more focussed and offer a few new and different things. Of course, we’ll be keeping what has always been the backbone of the the site – news and reviews of LGBT-themed TV, movies, web series and more.

We’ll be gearing back up over the next few days, so if you have any thoughts about things you’d like to see, feel free to Contact Us. While we can only apologise for disappearing for 18 months, we’re happy to back and hope you’ll enjoy what we have to offer in the future.

New Sauvage Trailer – The gay prostitute movie that divided Cannes is coming soon

January 28, 2019 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

I’m always a bit dubious about reports that a film prompted walkouts, as it can’t help but sound like a marketing ploy. However, there were apparently quite a few people who didn’t get through to the end of the screenings of Sauvage at Cannes, due to its graphic approach to its story.

However, many of the reviewers who did watch it all the way through praised its honesty, even if they did say it’s sometimes tough to watch. Having seen it myself, if it did prompt walkouts it was most likely down to homophobia and squeamishness about the emotional rawness of what it’s portraying.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Leo is 22 and sells his body on the street for a bit of cash. The men come and go, and he stays right here – longing for love. He doesn’t know what the future will bring. He hits the road. His heart is pounding.’

The film will be in UK cinemas on March 1st. Take a look at the new trailer below. [Read more…]

Toy Story 4 Teaser Trailer – Woody & the gang are coming back once more

November 12, 2018 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Pixar has come a long way from the company that once refused to countenance the idea of making sequels to its movies. We’re now getting ready for the fourth Toy Story film, but as the first three were so good, that’s certainly not a bad thing. That said, the voice cast has been talking about how emotionally it difficult was to record the final scenes – so prepare to have your heart ripped out by Woody and co. once more.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Woody has always been confident about his place in the world and that his priority is taking care of his kid, whether that’s Andy or Bonnie. But when Bonnie adds a reluctant new toy called “Forky” to her room, a road trip adventure alongside old and new friends will show Woody how big the world can be for a toy. Directed by Josh Cooley (“Riley’s First Date?”) and produced by Jonas Rivera (“Inside Out,” “Up”) and Mark Nielsen (associate producer “Inside Out”), Disney•Pixar’s “Toy Story 4” ventures to UK cinemas on the 21st June 2019.’

The first image, teaser trailer and poster have now been released. Take a look at them below. [Read more…]

Aladdin Teaser Trailer – Guy Ritchie directs Disney’s latest live-action musical adaptation

October 12, 2018 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Synopsis: ‘Aladdin is the exciting tale of the charming street rat Aladdin, the courageous and self-determined Princess Jasmine and the Genie who may be the key to their future. Directed by Guy Ritchie, who brings his singular flair for fast-paced, visceral action to the fictitious port city of Agrabah, the film is written by John August and Ritchie based on Disney’s Aladdin.

Aladdin stars Will Smith as the larger-than-life Genie; Mena Massoud as the charming scoundrel Aladdin; Naomi Scott as Jasmine, the beautiful, self-determined princess; Marwan Kenzari as Jafar, the powerful sorcerer; Navid Negahban as the Sultan concerned with his daughter’s future; Nasim Pedrad as Dalia, Princess Jasmine’s free-spirited best friend and confidante; Billy Magnussen as the handsome and arrogant suitor Prince Anders; and Numan Acar as Hakim, Jafar’s right-hand man and captain of the palace guards.

‘The film is produced by Dan Lin and Jonathan Eirich with Marc Platt and Kevin De La Noy serving as executive producers. Alan Menken provides the score, which includes new recordings of the original songs written by Menken and lyricists Howard Ashman and Tim Rice and two new songs written by Menken and songwriters Benj Pasek and Justin Paul. The film, which was shot on practical stages in London and on location amidst the stunning desert vistas of Jordan, has a talented creative team helping to bring Agrabah to life, including: director of photography Alan Stewart, production designer Gemma Jackson and costume designer Michael Wilkinson.’

The film is due in cinemas May 2019. Take a look at the teaser trailer and poster below. [Read more…]

Rocketman Trailer – Taron Egerton is a fantastical version of a young Elton John

October 2, 2018 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Director Dexter Fletcher has certainly thrown himself into biopic of gay music legends recently, even if it was partially by accident. He ended up taking over direction of the Queen/Freddie Mercury biopic Bohemian Rhapsody, and he’s also behind the lens for the long-gestating fantastical look at a young Elton John, Rocketman.

Here’s the brief synopsis: #ROCKETMAN is an epic musical fantasy about the uncensored human story of Sir Elton John’s breakthrough years, starring Taron Egerton, Jamie Bell, Richard Madden and Bryce Dallas Howard.’ As you’d expect from Elton, this is not your typical biopic, with the whole thing taking place in a larger than life universe.

The film’s due in cinemas May 2019. Take a look at the first teaser trailer for the movie below. [Read more…]

New Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald Trailer – A classic Potter character isn’t what we thought

September 25, 2018 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Today there’s been both delight and a lot of eye-rolling in the Harry Potter fandom following a reveal in the new trailer for Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald which brings back a ‘character’ from the Harry Potter novels but in a rather different form. Some love that things weren’t what they appeared (although it may also explain a few things), while others feel the whole thing feels like a rather daft retcon – while a few have even argued it may be sexist or racist. You can decide for yourself by watching below and seeing that something very close to Voldemort wasn’t always as we’ve previously seen it.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘At the end of the first film, the powerful Dark wizard Gellert Grindelwald (Johnny Depp) was captured by MACUSA (Magical Congress of the United States of America), with the help of Newt Scamander (Eddie Redmayne). But, making good on his threat, Grindelwald escaped custody and has set about gathering followers, most unsuspecting of his true agenda: to raise pure-blood wizards up to rule over all non-magical beings.

‘In an effort to thwart Grindelwald’s plans, Albus Dumbledore (Jude Law) enlists his former student Newt Scamander, who agrees to help, unaware of the dangers that lie ahead. Lines are drawn as love and loyalty are tested, even among the truest friends and family, in an increasingly divided wizarding world.

‘The film features an ensemble cast led by Eddie Redmayne, Katherine Waterston, Dan Fogler, Alison Sudol, Ezra Miller, with Jude Law and Johnny Depp. The cast also includes, Zoë Kravitz, Callum Turner, Claudia Kim, William Nadylam, Kevin Guthrie, Carmen Ejogo, and Poppy Corby-Tuech.

‘“Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald” is directed by David Yates, from a screenplay by J.K. Rowling.’ The film will be in cinemas November 16th 2018. Take a look at the new trailer and some character art below. [Read more…]
