See Lupita Nyong’o, Scarlett Johansson, Idris Elba & More Next To Their CG Jungle Book Animals

March 21, 2016 By Tim Isaac 1 Comment

Jungle-Book-actors1-slideThere are quite a few famous names we will hear but not see in Disney’s upcoming live-action take on The Jungle. All the animals will be CGI, but many will be voiced by well-known actors. It’s a great idea then to release a set of pics showing us the actors alongside their computer-generated counterparts.

The pics feature Idris Elba with Shere Khan, Scarlett Johansson with Kaa, Lupita Nyong’o with Raksha, Ben Kingsley with Bagheera, Christopher Walken with King Louie and Giancarlo Esposito with Akela.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Directed by Jon Favreau (“Iron Man”), based on Rudyard Kipling’s timeless stories and inspired by Disney’s classic animated film, “The Jungle Book” is an all-new live-action epic adventure about Mowgli (newcomer Neel Sethi), a man-cub who’s been raised by a family of wolves. But Mowgli finds he is no longer welcome in the jungle when fearsome tiger Shere Khan (voice of Idris Elba), who bears the scars of Man, promises to eliminate what he sees as a threat.

‘Urged to abandon the only home he’s ever known, Mowgli embarks on a captivating journey of self-discovery, guided by panther-turned-stern mentor Bagheera (voice of Ben Kingsley), and the free-spirited bear Baloo (voice of Bill Murray). Along the way, Mowgli encounters jungle creatures who don’t exactly have his best interests at heart, including Kaa (voice of Scarlett Johansson), a python whose seductive voice and gaze hypnotizes the man-cub, and the smooth-talking King Louie (voice of Christopher Walken), who tries to coerce Mowgli into giving up the secret to the elusive and deadly red flower: fire.

The film will be in cinemas in April. Take a look at the new pics below. [Read more…]

Star Trek Beyond Trailer – Chris Pine & co. return & are finally boldy going to strange new worlds

December 14, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

star-trek-beyond-trailer-slide1Although the first two rebooted Star Trek movies were a lot of fun, one thing they lacked was boldly going to explore strange new worlds and new civilisations. However, with Star Trek Beyond it’s been suggest the Enterprise will finally be embarking on their five year mission.

However, while JJ Abrams may not be directing (he is producing though), it appears they’re sticking with the secrecy that surrounded the earlier movie but telling us nothing about the plot and producing a first trailer which is pretty cool, but doesn’t tell us much about the plot.

You won’t be surprised to hear though that aliens are involved, one of them played by Idris Elba.

It also appears that new director Justin Lin is bringing a nicely retro feel, with the whole thing being oddly reminiscent of the 60s TV show, which makes sense if its taking place at the same time, even if it’s an alternate timeline. Of course it’s all a lot more high tech, but it’s still got a nice throwback feeling. You can take a look at the trailer below, and look forward to the film arriving in cinemas next July.

The Gunman (Blu-ray Review)

July 19, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Starring: Sean Penn, Idris Elba, Jasmine Trinca, Mark Rylance, Javier Bardem
Director: Pierre Morel
Running Time: 115 mins
Certificate: 15
Release Date: July 20th 2015 (UK)

Until recently the prospect of Sean Penn starring in a movie meant that while the film was likely to be a little bit tedious, he would be extremely good in it and the movie would be worth a watch. However, with Gangster Squad, Walter Mitty and The Gunman, he seems to be trying his hand at more standard fare.

Unfortunately though, all the Gunman offers is more of what we’ve seen 1,000 times before. In fact, I almost wonder if in the pact actors make with Hollywood, it includes a clause that makes it compulsory for them to star in at least one movie about an assassin having an existential crisis. No Good Deed (DVD Review)

March 29, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Starring: Idris Elba, Taraji P. Henson, Leslie Bibb, Kate Del Castillo
Director: Sam Miller
Running Time: 80 mins
Certificate: 15
Release Date: March 16th 2015 (UK)

Sometimes getting two really good actors to take on a rather run of the mill script can raise the whole thing to new levels. There must have been hope No Good Deed could do the same, but it doesn’t really work.

Colin (Idris Elba) is a very bad man, who police believe is a serial murderer but who they’ve only managed to lock up for manslaughter. After a parole hearing he escapes custody and heads for the house of his girlfriend, whom he promptly kills (just in case we were wondering just how bad he is). [Read more…]

Idris Elba Is In Talks To Be Star Trek 3’s Main Villain

March 25, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

idris-elbaWe haven’t heard a huge amount about it for a while, but Paramount is still busily putting together Star Trek 3, and now it looks like it’s really moving forward as Idris Elba is in early talks to play the movie’s main villain, according to Variety.

Taking a lesson from JJ Abrams’ Star Trek Into Darkness there’s little info on what the role may be, although Variety does say ‘Early rumors suggest that Klingons would be the main villains in this movie, as they have not had a full presence in previous installments, but sources would not confirm if that was the case.’

The current plan is that the movie will start shooting in June with the likes of Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto and Simon Pegg returning to for a third Starfleet outing. Justin Lin will director with a July 8th, 2016 release date set.

Dominic West And Idris Elba Reteam For Pixar’s Finding Dory

September 12, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

idris-elba-dominic-westAlthough few kids are fans of The Wire, Pixar has decided it would be a good plan to get two of the stars of that show to reunite for their Finding Nemo sequel, Finding Dory, according to Shortlist.

Idris Elba and Dominic West have joined the voice cast, alongside returning stars such as Ellen DeGeneres (Dory), Albert Brooks (Marlin) and Gill (Willem Dafoe), as well as newbies Diane Keaton and Eugene Levy as Dory’s parents, and Ty Burrell as a character called Bailey.

Dominic West talked about his role in a recent interview with ShortList, saying “I saw Idris recently. We’re both in the sequel to Finding Nemo, so we were recording that. I’m in pretty regular contact with a lot of guys from The Wire – a lot of them are godparents to my kids, so I love them dearly.”

What he didn’t say though is who they will be playing.

Andrew Stanton is directing, with a June 2016 release date set.

Charlie Hunnam Sought For Title Role In Guy Ritchie’s King Arthur Movie

August 29, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

charlie-hunnam-slideCharlie Hunnam may have had to step away from the lead role in Fifty Shades Of Grey, however he’s now being lined up for another major movie, with Deadline reporting he’s the top choice for the title role in Guy Ritchie’s Knights of the Roundtable: King Arthur.

Variety adds that Elizabeth Olsen is the frontrunner for the female lead. Idris Elba is already onboard as the knight Bedivere.

Joby Harold (Edge of Tomorrow) wrote the script, which is the first part of a planned six-movie franchise, which presumably will concentrate on different knights surrounding Arthur with each film. There’s still no news on the exact plot and direction the first movie will take.

Warner Bros. has had been trying to make an Arthurian movie for years. Indeed Ritchie was previously attached to a completely different King Arthur movie, which was written by John Hodge (Trainspotting). Another project, Arthur & Lancelot, even got to the point where Kit Harington (Game of Thrones) and Joel Kinnaman (The Killing) had been hired for the lead roles and the sets were ready to be built. However the studio backed out just a few weeks before production was due to begin. Hopefully they won’t get cold feet with this version.

Idris Elba Is Up For Guy Ritchie’s King Arthur Movie

July 22, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

idris-elbaFor the past few months Guy Ritchie has been hard at work on the film version of The Man from U.N.C.L.E., which is due in cinemas this winter. However he’s also got a King Arthur movie percolating away, which already has a July 2016 release date set.

With that deadline in place he’s now putting the cast together, as TheWrap reports that Idris Elba is in talks to star in the film, which now has the franchise-ready title, Knights of the Roundtable: King Arthur.

Assuming he signs on the dotted line, Elba will portray Bedivere, who serves as the right hand man to Arthur’s father, and is tasked with teaching Arthur how to lead an army. The title character is yet to be cast, with Ritchie planning to test for the part next month.

Ritchie is set to direct from a script by Joby Harold (Edge of Tomorrow). It’s not clear when it will shoot, although it’s likely to be before the end of the year.

No Good Deed Trailer – Idris Elba terrorises Taraji P. Henson

June 15, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

no-good-deed-pic1Idris Elba is going from one extreme to the other. Having recently played the universally beloved Nelson Mandela on the big screen, he’s now turning escaped convict for No Good Deed. And we’ve got a trailer to take a look.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Terri (Taraji P. Henson), a devoted wife and mother of two, lives an ideal life that takes a dramatic turn when her home and children are threatened by Colin (Idris Elba), a charming stranger who smooth-talks his way into her house, claiming car trouble. The unexpected invitation leaves her and her family terrorized and fighting for survival.’

The film will be out in the US in September and the UK in October. [Read more…]

Idris Elba Joins Jon Favreau & Disney’s The Jungle Book

March 8, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Idris-ElbaWith two live action versions of The Jungle Book in the works – one from Warner Bros. and one from Disney – so the race is on to get them into cinemas. Now Disney’s one, which Jon Favreau is set to direct, is close to signing Idris Elba to perform and provide the voice for the tiger Shere Khan.

Shere Khan is the deadly jungle cat who stalks and threatens Mowgli, the young boy brought up by animals in the Indian jungle. He believe Mowgli is a threat that will only grow as he ages.

Robert Legato, who was instrumental to the effects in Avatar (and won an Oscar for it), will oversee the motion capture in the adaptation of the Rudyard Kipling novel. He’ll work with production designers Alex McDowell (Man of Steel) and Chris Glass, and concept artists Michael Kutsche (Maleficent), Iain McCaig (Star Wars: Episode VII ) and Justin Sweet (The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe). David Lowery (Iron Man ) is heading up the story team, which is working around the clock with seven full-time illustrators, with Legacy Effects in charge of rigging and creature design.

Disney is keen to beat Warner Bros.’ take on the classic story to the big screen. Currently Disney has the advantage, as  director Alejandro Gonzalez Inarittu stepped aside several weeks ago, and as yet there’s no replacement.
