War Machine Trailer – Brad Pitt is going to war for Netflix

March 31, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Netflix has shown they can take on television at their own game (something most thought was impossible a few years ago), and now they want to show Hollywood they can make really big movies too. This year they’ve got the likes of Bright, starring Will Smith, as well as War Machine, with Brad Pitt. The trailer for the latter has now arrived.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘An absurdist war story for our times, writer-director David Michôd (Animal Kingdom) recreates a U.S. General’s roller-coaster rise and fall as part reality, part savage parody – raising the specter of just where the line between them lies today. His is an exploration of a born leader’s ultra-confident march right into the dark heart of folly. At the story’s core is Brad Pitt’s sly take on a successful, charismatic four-star general who leapt in like a rock star to command NATO forces in Afghanistan, only to be taken down by a journalist’s no-holds-barred exposé.

‘The Netflix original film is inspired by the book The Operators: The Wild & Terrifying Inside Story of America’s War in Afghanistan by the late journalist Michael Hastings. Joining Pitt in War Machine is a highly decorated cast including Tilda Swinton, Ben Kingsley, Anthony Michael Hall, Topher Grace, Will Poulter, Lakeith Stanfield, Emory Cohen, John Magaro, RJ Cyler, Alan Ruck, Scoot McNairy and Meg Tilly. Ian Bryce and Plan B’s Dede Gardner, Jeremy Kleiner and Brad Pitt serve as producers. James Skotchdopole serves as executive producer. The film will be released on Netflix on May 26, 2017.’ [Read more…]

War Machine Teaser Trailer – Netflix show off its upcoming movie starring Brad Pitt

March 1, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Today Netflix was in Berlin, trying to woo the European market and showing off some of its upcoming wares. After releasing a trailer for Bright, starring Will Smith a couple of days ago, they decided today was a good time for the first teaser for another film they’ve got up their sleeve featuring a-list talent – War Machine, starring Brad Pitt.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘An absurdist war story for our times, writer-director David Michôd (Animal Kingdom) recreates a U.S. General’s roller-coaster rise and fall as part reality, part savage parody – raising the specter of just where the line between them lies today. See Lupita Nyong’o, Scarlett Johansson, Idris Elba & More Next To Their CG Jungle Book Animals

March 21, 2016 By Tim Isaac 1 Comment

Jungle-Book-actors1-slideThere are quite a few famous names we will hear but not see in Disney’s upcoming live-action take on The Jungle. All the animals will be CGI, but many will be voiced by well-known actors. It’s a great idea then to release a set of pics showing us the actors alongside their computer-generated counterparts.

The pics feature Idris Elba with Shere Khan, Scarlett Johansson with Kaa, Lupita Nyong’o with Raksha, Ben Kingsley with Bagheera, Christopher Walken with King Louie and Giancarlo Esposito with Akela.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Directed by Jon Favreau (“Iron Man”), based on Rudyard Kipling’s timeless stories and inspired by Disney’s classic animated film, “The Jungle Book” is an all-new live-action epic adventure about Mowgli (newcomer Neel Sethi), a man-cub who’s been raised by a family of wolves. But Mowgli finds he is no longer welcome in the jungle when fearsome tiger Shere Khan (voice of Idris Elba), who bears the scars of Man, promises to eliminate what he sees as a threat.

‘Urged to abandon the only home he’s ever known, Mowgli embarks on a captivating journey of self-discovery, guided by panther-turned-stern mentor Bagheera (voice of Ben Kingsley), and the free-spirited bear Baloo (voice of Bill Murray). Along the way, Mowgli encounters jungle creatures who don’t exactly have his best interests at heart, including Kaa (voice of Scarlett Johansson), a python whose seductive voice and gaze hypnotizes the man-cub, and the smooth-talking King Louie (voice of Christopher Walken), who tries to coerce Mowgli into giving up the secret to the elusive and deadly red flower: fire.

The film will be in cinemas in April. Take a look at the new pics below. [Read more…]

Stonehearst Asylum (Blu-ray Review)

June 21, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Starring: Jim Sturgess, Kate Beckinsale, Michael Caine, Ben Kingsley, David Thewlis
Director: Brad Anderson
Running Time: 112 mins
Certificate: 15
Release Date: June 22nd 2015 (UK)

There’s certainly a great cast of British and Irish actors brought together for Stonehearst Asylum – virtually everyone in it you’ll recognise from something – so it’s a bit of a shame that they’ve gathered in service of a movie isn’t bad, but which never really takes off.

It’s 1899 and Young doctor Edward Newgate (Jim Sturgess) arrives at the remote and isolated Stonehearst Asylum, a place where Europe’s finest families hide their relative who have issues that they feel mean they aren’t suitable for polite society. Newgate wishes to study the methods of the head of the institution, Silas Lamb (Ben Kingsley), who is apparently trying to create a utopian mental health facility, where instead of the harsh, tortuous methods of the past, the patients are treated with dignity and as much normality as possible. New The Walk Trailer – Joseph Gordon-Levitt does a high wire act for Robert Zemeckis

June 4, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

the-walk-slideFor a very long time Robert Zemeckis was a many who couldn’t do anything without special effects, but more recently with Flight it looked like he was calming down. However with The Walk it appears he’s back to using effects to try and give a story a grander scale than it might otherwise have had.

And that’s certainly clear in this rather cool new trailer.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Twelve people have walked on the moon, but only one man – Philippe Petit (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) – has ever, or will ever, walk in the immense void between the World Trade Center towers. Guided by his real-life mentor, Papa Rudy (Ben Kingsley), and aided by an unlikely band of international recruits, Petit and his gang overcome long odds, betrayals, dissension and countless close calls to conceive and execute their mad plan. Robert Zemeckis, the director of such marvels as Forrest Gump, Cast Away, Back to the Future, Polar Express and Flight, again uses cutting edge technology in the service of an emotional, character-driven story. With innovative photorealistic techniques and IMAX 3D wizardry, The Walk is true big-screen cinema, a chance for moviegoers to viscerally experience the feeling of reaching the clouds. The film, a PG-rated, all-audience entertainment for moviegoers 8 to 80, unlike anything audiences have seen before, is a love letter to Paris and New York City in the 1970s, but most of all, to the Towers of the World Trade Center.’

The film opens this autumn. [Read more…]

Self/Less Trailer – Ben Kingsley takes over Ryan Reynolds’ body

March 4, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

selfless-posterI’m sure there are a few people out there who wouldn’t mind waking up as Ryan Reynolds tomorrow, but it looks like Ben Kingsley is actually going to do it in Self/Less, and if you want to see how, take a look at the trailer below.

Based on an script by Alex and David Pastor (who wrote and directed the 2009 horror Carriers), the film is about a wealthy old man (Kingsley) who pays to have his mind transplanted into a younger body (Reynolds) after he realises that is dying. In a very bad turn of luck, he soon realises that the body he’s taken over is a murder victim, and the body’s killers aren’t happy to see him walking around again. The hero is then forced to go on the run and work out who’s trying to kill him.

Tarsem Singh directs the film, which should be out later this year. [Read more…]

First Pics Of Joseph Gordon Levitt In Robert Zemeckis’ The Walk Released

August 8, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

the-walk-pic2Yesterday marked the 40th Anniversary of Phillipe Petit’s August 7th, 1974 tightrope walk between the Twin Towers of New York’s World Trade Center, which made it a good time for TriStar to announce that Robert Zemeckis’ film about the event – The Walk – has wrapped principal photography, and to release the first two pics (via USA Today), which you can see above and below.

The film, based on Petit’s book To Reach the Clouds, stars Joseph Gordon-Levitt as the young dreamer who dared the impossible: an illegal wire walk between the World Trade Center towers.

Here’s the synopsis from the official press release: ‘Twelve people have walked on the moon, but only one man has ever, or will ever, walk in the immense void between the World Trade Center towers. Guided by his real-life mentor, Papa Rudy (Ben Kingsley), and aided by an unlikely band of international recruits, Petit and his gang overcome long odds, betrayals, dissension and countless close calls to conceive and execute their mad plan. The film is a love letter to Paris and New York City in the 1970s, but most of all, to the Towers of the World Trade Center.’

Also starring in the film are James Badge Dale, Ben Schwartz, Charlotte Le Bon, Clément Sibony and César Domboy.

The film will be released on October 2, 2015.

James Badge Dale & Ben Kingsley Will Reach For The Clouds Alongside Joseph Gordon-Levitt

April 26, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

james-badge-daleBack in January is was revealed Robert Zemeckis was working on To Reach For the Clouds, with Joseph Gordon-Levitt rumoured to star. The project is now coming together fast with the hope it will shoot this summer.

THR reports that Gordon-Levitt will indeed star and now he has some company as Ben Kingsley, James Badge Dale, and Charlotte Le Bon are set to join the cast.

The film will be based on the memoirs of Philippe Petit, who walked on a tightrope strung between the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center on August 7, 1974. Zemeckis is planning to direct from a script he is co-writing with Christopher Browne.

The actual tightrope walk won’t be featured until towards the end of the movie, with the bulk of the film looking at on how Philippe Petit and a group of friends meticulously planned what was later called the ‘artistic crime of the century.’ It took six years from conception to execution. Eventually in 1974 they snuck up to the top of the towers to string a 450-foot cable from one building to the other, using a custom-made 26-foot balancing pole. The heist elements of the story are (inevitably) being compared to Ocean’s Eleven.

A documentary about the event, Man on Wire directed by James Marsh, won the Oscar for Best Documentary in 2009.
