Self/Less Trailer – Ben Kingsley takes over Ryan Reynolds’ body

March 4, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

selfless-posterI’m sure there are a few people out there who wouldn’t mind waking up as Ryan Reynolds tomorrow, but it looks like Ben Kingsley is actually going to do it in Self/Less, and if you want to see how, take a look at the trailer below.

Based on an script by Alex and David Pastor (who wrote and directed the 2009 horror Carriers), the film is about a wealthy old man (Kingsley) who pays to have his mind transplanted into a younger body (Reynolds) after he realises that is dying. In a very bad turn of luck, he soon realises that the body he’s taken over is a murder victim, and the body’s killers aren’t happy to see him walking around again. The hero is then forced to go on the run and work out who’s trying to kill him.

Tarsem Singh directs the film, which should be out later this year. [Read more…]

Tarsem Singh Signs Up To Direct The Panopticon

August 9, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

tarsem-singhAfter a five year gap, we got two films from Tarsem Singh in less than a year with Immortals and Mirror Mirror. However since then he’s mainly been flirting around other project, although Selfless, starring Ryan Reynolds, should be in cinemas next year. Now he’s signed on for a new one, as TheWrap reports he’s set to direct The Panopticon.

The film is about an ordinary man who receives a strange package that has a recording from himself, with a grave warning that the world is in danger. He must race against the clock to figure out this worldwide travesty before it’s too late for mankind.

Craig Rosenberg (The Quiet Ones, The Uninvited) wrote the screenplay, although there’s no news on when it might shoot.

Ryan Reynolds May Be Selfless For Director Tarsem Singh

April 25, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

ryan-renoyldsDirector Tarsem Singh was averaging one film ever six years with The Cell and The Fall, but he’s speeded up his output considerably, as Immortals and Mirror Mirror were released within eight months of one another in 2011 and 2012.

Now he’s planning a new movie, as Deadline reports that Tarsem and actor Ryan Reynolds are in talks for the thriller Selfless. Based on an script by Alex and David Pastor (who wrote and directed the 2009 horror Carriers), the film is about a wealthy old man who pays to have his mind transplanted into a younger body after he realises that is dying. In a very bad turn of luck, he soon realises that the body he’s taken over is a man murder victim, and the body’s killers aren’t happy to see him walking around again. The hero is then forced to go on the run and work out who’s trying to kill him.

Neither Tarsem nor Reynolds is confirmed as yet, but they could make a pretty good pairing if the film does go ahead.

Mirror Mirror (DVD)

July 27, 2012 By Stephen Sclater Leave a Comment

Starring: Lily Collins, Armie Hammer, Julia Roberts, Nathan Lane
Director: Tarsem
Running Time: 101 mins
Certificate: PG
Release Date: July 30th 2012

Hollywood is now investing a lot of time and money into fairytales of old, as with today’s CGI anything goes. You wait ages for a Snow White films and two turn up, the same can also be said of waiting for a Tarsem Singh film, as we hadn’t had anything since 2006’s The Fall, and now we’ve had Immortals and Mirror Mirror within a few months of one another. One does not normally associate a Tarsem Singh film with comedy, but this is what has he has delivered with Mirror Mirror, which is unusual considering his inability to connect with the audience with his previous films.

Tarsem Singh is a cinematic visionary who tends to focus more on imagery, costumes and style than with plots, and again has delivered something very similar with Mirror Mirror. Personally I enjoy watching Singh’s films and marvel at the beauty and striking canvas he envisages like a true artist (it is definitely style over substance), along with the creator of his incredible costumes, Eiko Ishioka, who unfortunately passed away this year. Armie Hammer Goes Shirtless In Mirror Mirror

January 28, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

As the Winklevoss twins in The Social Network and Clyde Tolson in J. Edgar, the impossibly handsome Armie Hammer has gained quite a few fans. Next up for him is playing Prince Alcott in Mirror Mirror, the new family friendly take on the classic Snow White tale.

A new featurette for the film has just popped up online, which is basically just a glorified trailer, but does give us a delectable glimpse of Armie with his shirt off. It’s pleasing to see that he’s resisted Hollywood’s obsession with trimming the chest fur. You can see the full featurette below. The film’s out at the end of March.

New Mirror Mirror Trailer

January 27, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

When the first trailer for Mirror Mirror arrived online, the main reaction to the OTT farce on display was, ‘What the hell is that?’ It’s fair to say that in the battle of the Snow White movies, the Mirror Mirror teaser was roundly trounced by the entrancing first look at Snow White & the Huntsman. Now a new Mirror Mirror trailer has arrived, which tones things down and makes things look more traditionally fairy tale-esque and palatable.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Mirror Mirror is a spectacular reimagining of the classic fairy tale starring Oscar® winner Julia Roberts as the Queen, Lily Collins (The Blind Side) as Snow White, Armie Hammer (The Social Network) as Prince Alcott, Sean Bean (“The Game of Thrones”, The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King) as the King and Nathan Lane (The Lion King, The Birdcage) as the Queen’s hapless and bungling servant, Brighton.

‘An evil queen steals control of a kingdom and an exiled princess enlists the help of seven resourceful rebels to win back her birthright in a spirited adventure comedy filled with jealousy, romance and betrayal that will capture the imagination of audiences the world over.

‘Visionary director Tarsem Singh (Immortals) rewrites fairy tale history as a wicked enchantress (Roberts) schemes and scrambles for control of a spirited orphan’s (Collins) throne and the attention of a charming prince (Hammer). When Snow White’s beauty wins the heart of the prince that she desperately pursues, the Queen banishes her to the forest, where a ravening man-eating beast hungrily awaits.

‘Rescued by a band of diminutive highway robbers, Snow White grows into an indomitable young woman determined to take back her realm from the treacherous Queen. With the support of her subjects, she roars into action in an epic battle that blends spectacle, magic and contemporary humor in Singh’s signature, jaw-dropping visual style.’ The film is due out March 16th.

Tarsem To Direct Killing on Carnival Row

November 18, 2011 By Movie Muser Leave a Comment

Tarsem Singh is certain speeding up his rating of making movies. It’s taken him 11 years to get three movies into cinemas (The Cell, The Fall, Immortals), but his fourth movie, Mirror Mirror, is coming up fast next March and now he’s already planning what he’ll do next.

Deadline reports that Tarsem has signed on to direct Killing on Carnival Row, a movie which has been in development since November 2005. Travis Beacham wrote the script, which is set in a mystical city dubbed Burgue, where both humans and bizarre creatures co-exist. However a serial killer is roaming the streets, and that needs to be sorted out. Killing on Carnival Row was the first script Beacham sold, and paved the way for his work on Clash of the Titans, 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, and Pacific Rim.

Producers Arnold Kopelson and Anne Kopelson are currently in talks with a studio to finance the film, although nothing is finalised yet. They’re also hoping to shoot next June.

Gratuitous Shirtlessness: The Men Of Immortals

November 17, 2011 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

The reviews for Immortals may not exactly have been kind (it currently stands at a rather measly 36% on Rotten Tomatoes), but there’s little doubt that there’s plenty of very pretty man-flesh on display. As in 300, the film shows us that ancient Greek time, men had an aversion to wearing clothes, and were all ridiculously buff! It may not be historically accurate, but it’s sure pretty. Immortals, starring future Superman Henry Cavill, alongside Kellan Lutz, Luke Evans, Mickey Rourke, and Stephen Dorff, is in cinemas now – but if you just fancy ogling the pecs, take a look below (click on the images to enlarge). Mirror Mirror Trailer

November 16, 2011 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Last week we got the first trailer for Snow White & The Huntsman, which surprised many by how good it looked. Now we have a promo for next year’s other Snow White movie, Mirror Mirror, which is unlikely to get as good a reaction. While the Huntsman was all dark, gothic and brooding, this one goes more for colour and comedy. It may not appeal to adult tastes, but could score well with a family audience. The Tarsem Singh directed movie stars Lily Collins, Julia Roberts, Armie Hammer and Nathan Lane and is due in cinemas next March, a few months ahead of its rival’s July debut.

Great New Snow White & The Huntsman Banner

November 9, 2011 By Movie Muser Leave a Comment

The battle between the Snow Whites is gearing up, especially now that Tarsem’s movie has a name, Mirror Mirror. Now Rupert Sanders’ film, Snow White & The Huntsman, tries to pull ahead with a wonderfully fantastical banner, which you can see above, showing off Chris Hemsworth, Kristin Stewart and Charlize Theron in a rather dark fantasy setting. The movie will be in cinemas June 1st, 2011 (Mirror Mirror, meanwhile is due in March).

We’ve also got a new poster for Cameron Crowe’s We Bought A Zoo, which we mainly included just because it’s proof that studio poster art isn’t dead. The film, which sees Matt Damon as a main with no experience of looking after animals purchasing a zoo, is due in UK cinemas March 30th, 2012.
