It’s a bit of a good news/bad news scenario, as Variety reports that Disney has decided to move forward with a sequel to The Muppets, but actor/writer Jason Segel will not be involved in writing the script – he may still star though.
Instead of Segel, Disney has signed deals with The Muppets director James Bobin and Segel’s co-writer Nick Stoller to come up with the screenplay for the sequel. Segel’s out as his commitments to other projects mean he won’t be available to write the script.
Even though Jason won’t be writing The Muppets sequel, insiders claim he is still open to starring in the follow-up, if the James Bobin/Nick Stoller script is to his liking.
