The Discovery Trailer – Robert Redford, Rooney Mara & Jason Segel find the afterlife

February 23, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Recently Robert Redford he intends to retire completely from in front of the camera, but before then he’s decided to go into the afterlife with The Discovery. It certainly sounds like it could be an interesting one.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘What would you do if there was proof of an afterlife? The answer to this question is rivetingly explored in The Discovery, where world-renowned physicist Doctor Thomas Harber (Robert Redford) is able to scientifically prove the existence of an afterlife—but with dire consequences. His estranged son, Will (Jason Segel), tries to confront the situation by returning to the New England–esque island where he grew up. He crosses paths with Isla (Rooney Mara), who’s returning to the island for mysterious reasons of her own. The tale unfolds over the ensuing days as the regret of past choices forces these lost characters to reflect on how they’ve gotten to where they are.’

The Discovery is one of the high-profile purchases Netflix has made in their attempt to bring big-name movies to the streaming platform, without going through a cinema release first. It’ll be available on the streaming platform from March 31, 2017. [Read more…]

When his colleagues devise an unconventional plan to break him out of his depression, the plan works, but not in a way that anyone imagined’.

Me and Earl and the Dying Girl director Alfonso Gomez-Rejon will helm the movie, which should shoot later this year.

It’s not clear who Segel will play, but it wouldn’t be surprising if he’s one of the colleagues trying to help Jackman out.

The End of the Tour Trailer – Jason Segel takes on novelist David Foster Wallace

May 27, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

END-OF-THE-TOUR-pic1Will it be Almost Famous all over again, but time with literature instead of music? Probably not, but they do have similar premises, with a Rolling Stone journalist heading off on the road to interview someone and write a piece.

Here’s the synopsis (form Sundance): ‘THE END OF THE TOUR tells the story of the five-day interview between Rolling Stone reporter (and novelist) David Lipsky (Jesse Eisenberg) and acclaimed novelist David Foster Wallace (Jason Segel), which took place right after the 1996 publication of Wallace’s groundbreaking epic novel, Infinite Jest. As the days go on, a tenuous yet intense relationship seems to develop between journalist and subject. The two men bob and weave around each other, sharing laughs and also possibly revealing hidden frailties – but it’s never clear how truthful they are being with each other.

‘Ironically, the interview was never published, and five days of audio tapes were packed away in Lipsky’s closet. The two men did not meet again. The film is based on Lipsky’s critically acclaimed memoir about this unforgettable encounter, written following Wallace’s 2008 suicide. Both Segel and Eisenberg reveal great depths of emotion in their performances and the film is directed with humor and tenderness by Sundance vet James Ponsoldt from Pulitzer- Prize winner Donald Margulies’ insightful and heartbreaking screenplay.’

The film’s out in the US in July. [Read more…]

Jason Segal Made His Mom Cry When He Went Full-Frontal In Forgetting Sarah Marshall

June 22, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

jason-segel-nude-cryingMost of us don’t want our parents to see us naked (and we don’t really want to see them in the nude either). As a result if there’s any chance our mom or dad might see our naughty bits, we’d do utmost to make sure it didn’t happen.

Jason Segel doesn’t appear to have such qualms, as not only did he did he appear fully naked in Forgetting Sarah Marshall, but he didn’t even tell his parents about it before they saw the movie.

According to Segel in Vanity Fair, his mom’s reaction was to burst into tears.

She then thought is might be a good idea to let other family members know so they didn’t have the same shock she did, so she sent out a mass e-mail which read, “I would like to inform you all that Jason has chosen to do full-frontal nudity, however, it is not gratuitous and is essential to the plot.”

To be honest, I don’t think people would have been confused about the plot if they hadn’t seen mini-Segel, but it does have have its place in the movie thematically.

What we want to know is whether he deliberately didn’t tell his parent just to see how they’d react, or whether it just slipped his mind.

Jason Segel & Jesse Eisenberg Head For The End of the Tour

December 12, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Jason-SegelJason Segel and Jesse Eisenberg are on a collision course, as they have both signed up to star in James Ponsoldt’s upcoming true story adaptation The End of the Tour, according to TheWrap. They should certainly make an interesting if a little geeky pairing.

The film is based on David Lipsky’s verbosely titled, Although Of Course You End Up Becoming Yourself: A Road Trip with David Foster Wallace. It tells the story of a five-day road trip that took place at the tail end of novelist David Foster Wallace’s Infinite Jest tour. The author committed suicide on September 12, 2008, however many consider Infinity Jest to be one of the best books of the last 50 year.

Jason Segel will portray the late Wallace with Jesse Eisenberg taking on the role of the Rolling Stone reporter David Lipsky. James Ponsoldt is directing from a script by Donald Margulies. Filming should begin early next year.

Described as a ‘comedy with dramatic overtones’, the movie will be inspired by a Montreal Gazette article by journalist Anne Sutherland.
