Even before MGM’s bankruptcy there was talk of remaking Poltergeist, but it’s been moving very slowly through development. Now it’s got a little more inpetus, as Deadline reports that MGM has brought on director Gil Kenan (Monster House, City of Ember) to helm the movie.
Last November Sam Raimi signed up to producer, with David Lindsay-Abaire rewriting an earlier screenplay by Juliet Snowden and Stiles White. The original 1982 Poltergeist, which starred Craig T. Nelson, JoBeth Williams and Dominique Dunne, centered on a family living in a lovely new house, who are haunted by an evil presence that eventually takes their daughter into another realm. It’s not known if the remake will deviate from the original story, although it will likely be set in present day.
At the moment it hasn’t been revealed when it will shoot.
