(The likes of Orson Welles, Jon Finch and ever Sam Worthington have previously brought Macbeth to the big screen, but Shakespeare’s classic is still perhaps waiting for its definitive movie version. Now Screen Daily suggests Snowtown director Justin Kurtzel is going to give his take of story, and he’s got Michael Fassbender on board for the lead role.
Todd Louiso and Jacob Koskoff have adapted the Bard’s text, which tells the story of a ruthlessly ambitious Scottish lord who seizes the throne with the help of his scheming wife and three witches. The new film will keep the original 11th century setting, with Shakespeare’s original language, but to attract modern attention-span lacking audiences, will also feature visceral battle scenes.
The film will be look for sales at Cannes, with Kurzel planning to start shooting later this year. Fassbender seems a fantastic choice for the lead, so this will be one to look out for.
