The people who run it, led by Sofia (Marion Cotillard), have gotten hold of him because they want to awaken the ‘genetic memories’ he holds, which they can access through a machine called the Animus.

Once attached the contraption, he relives events that took place 500 years ago involving his ancestor, Aguilar de Nerha, who was part of The Assassins, a secret group fighting to stop the Templars taken over Christendom and ruling it with an iron fist. That involves a search for the Apple of Eden, where man’s freewill comes from. [Read more…]

Assassin’s Creed Trailer – Michael Fassbender unlocks genetic memories of an anti-Templar past

May 12, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

assassins-creed-slideVideogames-to-movies don’t have a great reputation, but that’s partly because the resulting film are often cheesy and have a slightly cheap, churned-out feeling. However Fox seems to be really hoping to change that with Assassin’s Creed by spending a lot of money, bringing together a great cast, a director with great dramatic credentials and ensuring the whole thing looks really good.

Now they’ve released the first trailer, trying to get interest brewing even though the actual movie isn’t due out until next year.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Through a revolutionary technology that unlocks his genetic memories, Callum Lynch (Michael Fassbender) experiences the adventures of his ancestor, Aguilar, in 15th Century Spain. New Macbeth Trailer – Michael Fassbender & Marion Cotillard take on the Scottish play

September 1, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

macbeth-slide2Shakespeare on screen has a very mixed history, but director Justin Kurzel (Snow Town) and stars Michael Fassbender and Marion Cotillard are hope they’ve created the definitive movie version of Macbeth – and from the evidence of this trailer, it looks like they could have done it.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘The highly anticipated tale of war, ambition, love, murder and betrayal, directed by Justin Kurzel (Snowtown) and starring Academy-Award nominee Michael Fassbender (Twelve Years A Slave, Shame, Hunger) and Academy-Award winner Marion Cotillard (Two Days, One Night, La Vie En Rose) will see a UK release on OCTOBER 2nd.

‘Macbeth is the story of a fearless warrior and inspiring leader brought low by ambition and desire. A thrilling interpretation of the dramatic realities of the times and a reimagining of what wartime must have been like for one of literature’s most famous and compelling characters, a story of all-consuming passion and ambition set in war torn Scotland.

‘MACBETH is from the producers of The King’s Speech and Shame. MACBETH also stars Paddy Considine (The Bourne Ultimatum), David Thewlis (the Harry Potter series), Sean Harris (Prometheus), Jack Reynor (What Richard Did) and Elizabeth Debicki (The Great Gatsby).’

It’ll be in UK cinemas in October. [Read more…]

First Look At Michael Fassbender In Character For Assassin’s Creed

August 27, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

assassins-creed-first-lookI’d almost forgotten the videogame series Assassin’s Creed was getting a movie, partly because it’s been in the works for so far. However, while game to movies have a bad reputation, you have to hope that the presence of Michael Fassbender might raise this one above the rest. It also appears they’re trying to make the film it’s own animal, as Fassbender will play a character created specifically for the movie.

He’s certainly looking good in the central role, as shown in this first promo image (which debuted on Yahoo!), which echoes the game covers while simultaneously looking suitably historical.

Alongside the image comes a synopsis: ‘[Callum] Lynch discovers he is a descendant of the secret Assassins society through unlocked genetic memories that allow him to relive the adventures of his ancestor, Aguilar, in 15th Century Spain. After gaining incredible knowledge and skills he’s poised to take on the oppressive Knights Templar in the present day.’

The movie will reunite director Justin Kurzel with his Macbeth stars Fassbender and Marion Cotillard, with Michael Kenneth Williams and Ariane Labed also set to star.

Justin Kurzel To Direct Michael Fassbender In Assassin’s Creed

April 29, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

justin-kurzelIt’s getting on for two years since Michael Fassbender signed up to star in a movie version of the hit videogame Assassin’s Creed. The movie has slowly been moving forward, with Daniel Epinosa expressing interest in directing and various writers coming and going.

However now Espinosa has gone as Variety reports that Justin Kurzel is in talks to helm the film. If he does come onboard it will reunite the Snowtown helmer with his Macbeth star, Fassbender.

A few weeks after Bill Collage and Adam Cooper (Exodus: Gods and Kings) came aboard to rewrite the script, based on the game about a bartender who learns that his ancestors were trained assassins. He is kidnapped by a group tied to the secret society Knights Templar and forced to travel through time, collecting various historical artifacts to be used for a higher purpose.

The hope is to go into production as soon as possible, meaning it’s likely Kurzel’s deal will be finalized very soon.

First Look At Michael Fassbender & Marion Cotillard In Macbeth

April 19, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

macbeth-2014-pic1Shakespeare is getting an outing this year with Macbeth, and now we’ve got our first look with Michael Fassbender and Marion Cotillard looking suitably Dark Ages, as this take retains the original story’s 11th Century setting.

Michael Fassbender is the title character, a Scottish Lord who will do anything to become king, with Marion Cotillard portraying his wife, Lady Macbeth.

However there are some new ideas, as Fassbender told the Daily Mail, his character is “Suffering from post traumatic stress disorder. It makes total sense, when you think about it. Justin set the seed of the idea in my head. This trauma is something we know about. In World War I they called it battle fatigue, and it was probably more horrific in Macbeth’s days, when they were killing with their bare hands, and driving a blade through bodies. He’s having these hallucinations, and he needs to return to the violence to find some sort of clarity, or peace.”

He adds, “He’d been away fighting and when he returns, we see it’s a relationship that’s broken down. They lost a child, and there wasn’t time for them to grieve because he’s been away campaigning. Lady M is desperate for that reconnection, and briefly they do. And, of course, the doorway has been opened to darkness and to violence.”

The actor also revealed that the cast use Scottish accents, except for Marion Cotillard, saying “We felt it would be unreasonable for her to put on a Scottish accent. It would not be unreasonable to presume that her character spent time in the French court.”

The film should be in cinemas late this year or early next.
