For a while now a new Terminator movie has been in the works, with Arnold Schwarzenegger set to star. Now Skydance Productions, Annapurna Pictures and Paramount Pictures have officially announced they will partner on the film, and they’ve set a release date of June 26th, 2015 for it.
The movie will be the first in a stand-alone trilogy, which will be produced by Megan Ellison of Annapurna (who bought the Terminator rights after the bankruptcy of their previous owner) and David Ellison of Skydance. Laeta Kalogridis (Avatar, Shutter Island) and Patrick Lussier (Drive Angry) are attached to write the screenplay.
Launched in 1984 with star Arnold Schwarzenegger as the title character, The Terminator spanned three subsequent films, which have earned over $1 billion at the worldwide box office. There’s been some speculation about Arnie’s involvement though, as while it was believed he was confirmed for the film, he’s not mentioned in the press release. While that doesn’t mean he’s no longer involved, it has had some wondering why he wasn’t mentioned.
