Terminator Genisys (DVD Review)

November 6, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Starring: Arnold Schwarzenegger, Jai Courtney, Emilia Clarke, Jason Clarke, Dayo Okeniyi
Director: Alan Taylor
Running Time: 126 mins
Certificate: 12
Release Date: November 2nd 2015 (UK)

Having spent $10s of millions on buying the Terminator franchise, the backers of Genisys had a lot riding on the movie. The film was planned as the first part of a new trilogy, although it seemed that was in major doubt after it only made $89 million at the US box office. However worldwide it did much better, grossing $440 million overall. As a result we’re likely to see more Terminating, even if the original plans change.

It’s both a continuation and semi-reboot, with Kyle Reese (Jai Courtney) sent back in time to 1984 to protect Sarah Connor (Emilia Clarke) from an evil Terminator (a CGI’d young Arnold Schwarzenegger), but once there it turns out events have changed since the first time we saw things, as Sarah is well aware of what’s going on, as she’s been protected by her own Terminator, which she calls Pops (a non CGI, aging Arnie), since she was a child. Arnie, Emilia Clarke, Jai Courtney & More Get Terminator Genisys Character Posters

May 11, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

terminator-character-poster1-tripleTerminator Genisys is fighting against franchise fatigue, and while it’s done a decent job so far of suggesting to film fans that it might be worth a look, it’s still got a way to go show that it reboots things enough to make it feel fresh while not completely abandoning what people liked about it to start with.

To help with that a set of character posters have popped up online, which like the last trailer showcase the old and new, and also show that Jason Clarke’s John Connor is rather different to the character we’ve seen in previous instalments and that he may be the villain this time around.

You can see all the posters below.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘When John Connor (Jason Clarke), leader of the human resistance, sends Sgt. Kyle Reese (Jai Courtney) back to 1984 to protect Sarah Connor (Emilia Clarke) and safeguard the future, an unexpected turn of events creates a fractured timeline. Now, Sgt. Reese finds himself in a new and unfamiliar version of the past, where he is faced with unlikely allies, including the Guardian (Arnold Schwarzenegger), dangerous new enemies, and an unexpected new mission: To reset the future…’

The movie is due out July 3rd. [Read more…]

Terminator Genisys ‘Payoff’ Trailer – John Connor has a surprise for us

April 13, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

terminator-genisys-new-pic1-slideThere’s still a bit of suspicion around the continuation/reboot that is Terminator Genisys, even after a very good first trailer. However now the movie is ready to really show us what it’s got up its sleeve, giving us a glimpse at exactly how Jason Clarke’s John Connor plays into a movie that takes place largely before he was born.

We already new that this would be a different version of sci-fi past than we’re familiar with, with Sarah Connor having been teamed up with Arnie’s Terminator for many years, but now we know her son is also heading back in time and he’s going to be… well, just look at the trailer below. Plus we also get a glimpse of 1984 Armie having a fight with 2015 Arnie, which should be fun.

Now, Sgt. March 25, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

terminator-genisys-new-pic1-slideThere are a lot of people in Hollywood hoping that people are still interested in Arnie as a cyborg, as he’s returning to his most iconic role in this summer’s Terminator Genisys. To give us a little look at his return a ‘living poster’ has been release with Schwarzenegger showing he’s still metallic underneath.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘When John Connor (Jason Clarke), leader of the human resistance, sends Sgt. Terminator Genisys Super Bowl Spot – Who knew that buses could do somersaults

January 29, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

terminator-genisys-new-pic1Although it’s only 40-seconds long, the SuperBowl spot for Terminator Genisys certainly puts the action to the fore, with explosions, somersaulting buses and general mayhem, along with a grey-haired Arnie showing that even cyborgs can get old.

Terminator Genisys Teaser Trailer – Everything old is new again even if Arnie is back

December 5, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

terminator-genisys-poster1Here’s a trailer that’s likely to divide fans. It’s set up to deliberately remind us of the early days of the Terminator franchise with an odd sense of nostalgia, but about halfway through it essentially says everything we saw before never happened and that it’s all been reset.

It’s not necessarily a bad thing, but it leaves a lot of question marks over the movie.

A previous reported (much of which is confirmed by the trailer) the film ‘is set in 2029, when the Future War is raging and a group of human rebels has the evil artificial-intelligence system Skynet on the ropes. John Connor (Dawn of the Planet of the Apes’ Jason Clarke) is the leader of the resistance, and Kyle Reese (Divergent‘s Jai Courtney) is his loyal soldier, raised in the ruins of post apocalyptic California. As in the original film, Connor sends Reese back to 1984 to save Connor’s mother, Sarah (Game of Thrones‘ Emilia Clarke), from a Terminator programmed to kill her so that she won’t ever give birth to John. But what Reese finds on the other side is nothing like he expected.’

Although that sounds pretty much like the original, things have changed as in this version Sarah Connor ‘was orphaned by a Terminator at age 9. Since then, she’s been raised by (brace yourself) Schwarzenegger’s Terminator—an older T-800 she calls “Pops”—who is programmed to guard rather than to kill. As a result, Sarah is a highly trained antisocial recluse who’s great with a sniper rifle but not so skilled at the nuances of human emotion.’

The movie is due out July 2015. [Read more…]

Terminator Genisys Gets A Living Poster

December 2, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Terminator-Genisys-cast-picAfter Jurassic World and Star Wars, another of the movies bidding to be a 2015 blockbuster has announced that its trailer is coming soon, and they’ve done it with a ‘living’ poster, which you can see below. The trailer itself meanwhile should be with us in Thursday.

First Look At Jai Courtney, Matt Smith & Emilia Clarke In Terminator: Genisys

October 29, 2014 By Tim Isaac 1 Comment

terminator-genisys-ew-cover1Next year Terminator: Genisys is hoping to be one of the year’s big blockbusters, rebooting and renovating the franchise with the hope that more sequels will flow in the coming years. There’s already controversy though, with reports the movie will use time travel trickery to allow the series to completely start over (Star Trek style).

And now we get to take out first look with the new Entertainment Weekly covers above and below.

EW also adds some more plot info, saying the film, ‘is set in 2029, when the Future War is raging and a group of human rebels has the evil artificial-intelligence system Skynet on the ropes. John Connor (Dawn of the Planet of the Apes’ Jason Clarke) is the leader of the resistance, and Kyle Reese (Divergent‘s Jai Courtney) is his loyal soldier, raised in the ruins of post apocalyptic California. Terminator 5 Becomes Terminator: Genisys And Gets A Logo

August 6, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

terminator-genisys-logoA couple of months before it started shooting, the fifth Terminator movie became known as Terminator: Genesis. Well, it turns out that was almost right, except the title isn’t quite a dictionary perfect, as it’s actually going to be Terminator: Genisys.

Arnie first let us know about this spelling alteration by putting the picture below on Instagram, which was shortly followed by the logo above on the Terminator Twitter account.

The announcement coincides with the end of shooting, which Arnie marks by saying, ‘Hasta la vista, baby. I want to thank the cast and crew of @TerminatorGenisys for a fantastic shoot. It was challenging, it was fun, and it was rewarding. From our director to the producers, from the camera team to catering, from visual effects to hair and makeup – we couldn’t have done it without you. I can’t wait to see our finished project and I know we’ll remind the fans why they fell in love with the Terminator. On July 1, 2015, I’ll be back.’

There’s no news on what Genisys itself might be, although the speculation at the moment is that it’s some kind of software related to Skynet, or that it’s the beginning of the programme that ends up creating cyborgs.

Alan Taylor (Thor: The Dark World) directs, with Arnie starring alongside Emilia Clarke, Jai Courtney, Jason Clarke, Matt Smith, Byung-Hun Lee, and JK Simmons.

Doctor Who Star Matt Smith Heads For Terminator: Genesis

May 4, 2014 By Tim Isaac 2 Comments

matt-smithDavid Tennant’s attempts to go from Doctor Who to being a star in the US didn’t quite go to plan, despite a lot of movie interest and a few failed TV pilots. However Matt Smith seems to be doing pretty well with a role in Ryan Gosling’s upcoming directorial debut, Lost River, and now Deadline reports that he’s scored a major part in Terminator: Genesis.

There’s no news on exactly who he will be, although he will play a brand new character with a strong connection to John Connor. He’ll star alongside Arnold Schwarzenegger, Jason Clarke, Emilia Clarke, Jai Courtney, J.K. Simmons, Dayo Okeniyi and Byung-hun Lee.

There are few details on the exact plot, although it’s known there will be a lot of time-travelling involved and that this is designed as the first part of a stand alone trilogy.

The film recently started shooting with Alan Taylor directing from a screenplay by Laeta Kalogridis and Patrick Lussier.
