Russell Crowe has had plenty of success as an actor, but he’s never directed a movie, until now that is, as Deadline reports that he’s set to make his helming debut with The Water Diviner.
The movie is set in 1919 and follows an Australian father who travels to Turkey to locate his two sons. The brothers went missing during the battle of Gallipoli, which was an unsuccessful attempt by the Allied Powers to control the sea route from Europe to Russia during World War I.
Russell Crowe is currently riding high at the box office due to his appearance in Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel. He’s apparently been looking for an Aussie-themed project to direct for a while, including flirting with The Long Green Shore and Bra Boys.
Andrew Knight and Andrew Anastasios wrote the screenplay for The Water Diviner. Shooting is scheduled to begin later this year in Australia and Turkey.
