For quite a while now, Daniel Radcliffe has been attached to 20th Century Fox’s upcoming version of Frankenstein. While the studio recently announced a release date of October 17th, 2014, there’s been no news on the rest of the cast, which is perhaps surprising as Radcliffe is playing what’s normally a side character, Igor.
However Deadline reports they’re now looking for the actor who will play Dr. Victor Frankenstein, with the two men currently leading the pack being Toby Kebbell and Jack Huston. However there’s no guarantee it’ll be either, as Fox is also looking elsewhere.
Kebbell, who made his first film appearance in the 2004 British crime thriller Dead Man Shoes, isn’t a big name, but has popped up in Oliver Stone’s Alexander, Woody Allen’s Match Point, Guy Ritchie’s Rocknrolla, and Steven Spielberg’s War Horse. Many expect his star to rise next year with a major role in Fox’s Dawn of the Planet of the Apes.
Jack Huston (who is the nephew of Anjelica Huston and Danny Huston, and grandson of director John Huston), is perhaps best known for playing the scarred Richard Harrow on HBO’s Boardwalk Empire. He previously worked with Radcliffe on the upcoming Kill Your Darlings, in which the two actors play Jack Kerouac and Allen Ginsberg, respectively.
Fox is hoping to sign someone within the next couple of weeks.
Chronicle’s Max Landis wrote the script for this new take on Frankenstein, with Paul McGuigan (Push) set to direct.
