Melissa McCarthy broke out with Paul Feig’s Bridesmaids and the actress and director recently reunited for The Heat. Now McCarthy is sticking with the director as TheWrap reports that she’s in talks to take one of the lead roles in Feig’s Susan Cooper.
The film is described as a James Bond-inspired spy comedy, but with a female lead. While Feig is known for broad comedy, Susan Cooper isn’t a parody, but is instead said to be a gritty and realistic comedy, which is heavily influenced by Martin Campbell’s Casino Royale.
The film is said to centre on two lead characters, although there’s no news on whether McCarthy is in talks to play the title character or if she’ll be the other lead.
The film is being set up as a potential franchise, so this could work out well for the actress. The one thing standing in the way at the moment is her schedule, as she’s soon due to go back into production on her sitcom, Mike & Molly. Hopefully she’ll be able to sort it out though.
