A Simple Favour Teaser Trailer – Paul Feig takes Anna Kendrick & Blake Lively into thriller territory

May 2, 2018 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Director Paul Feig (Ghostbusters, Bridesmaids, The Heat) and Anna Kendrick arefirst best known for making people laugh, but they’re going into thriller mode for A Simple Favour. The first teaser suggests something light but with a Hitchcockian edge.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘A SIMPLE FAVOUR, a stylish post-modern film noir directed by Paul Feig, centres around Stephanie (Anna Kendrick), a mummy blogger who seeks to uncover the truth behind her best friend Emily’s (Blake Lively) sudden disappearance from their small town. Stephanie is joined by Emily’s husband Sean (Henry Golding) in this thriller filled with twists and betrayals, secrets and revelations, love and loyalty, murder and revenge.’

The film is due out September 21st. Take a look at the teaser trailer below. [Read more…]

Anna Kendrick & Blake Lively To Star In A Simple Favor For Paul Feig

June 22, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Despite the success of the likes of Bridemaids, The Heat & Spy, Paul Feig took a lot of heat for the relative failure of last year’s Ghostbusters. However, he’s not going sticking with comedy for his next movie, as he’s planning a thriller called A SImple Favor, according to Deadline.

Anna Kendrick and Blake Lively are already in talks to star in the movie, which Feig is writing himself, based on the book of the same name by author Darcey Bell. Here’s the synopsis: ‘It starts with a simple favor—an ordinary kindness mothers do for one another. When her best friend, Emily, asks Stephanie to pick up her son Nicky after school, she happily says yes. Nicky and her son, Miles, are classmates and best friends, and the five-year-olds love being together—just like she and Emily. A widow and stay-at-home mommy blogger living in woodsy suburban Connecticut, Stephanie was lonely until she met Emily, a sophisticated PR executive whose job in Manhattan demands so much of her time.

‘But Emily doesn’t come back. She doesn’t answer calls or return texts. Stephanie knows something is terribly wrong—Emily would never leave Nicky, no matter what the police say. Terrified, she reaches out to her blog readers for help. She also reaches out to Emily’s husband, the handsome, reticent Sean, offering emotional support. It’s the least she can do for her best friend…

‘Soon, Stephanie will begin to see that nothing—not friendship, love, or even an ordinary favor—is as simple as it seems.’

The plan is to start shooting in August, for release next year.

Ghostbusters Director Paul Feig Suggests Studio Won’t Let Him Say One Of The Main Characters Is LGBT

July 13, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

ghostbusters-kate-mckinnonA couple of people have noted that in the new take on Ghostbusters, there’s the possibility that Kate McKinnon’s character, Jillian, maybe be somewhere on the LGBT spectrum. However, as nearly always with big Hollywood movies, while there are suggestions, nothing’s actually said.

It appears there might be a reason for that to do with the studio, and that the filmmakers would have really liked to have been a little more open about. The Daily Beast asked director Paul Feig straight out whether Jillian is gay, to which he answered, “What do you think?”

When the intereviewer says that they think the answer is ‘yes’, Feig reportedly silently nodded and said, “I hate to be coy about it. But when you’re dealing with the studios and that kind of thing…

“You know, Kate is who she is and I love the relationship between Kate and Melissa’s characters,” he says. “I think it’s a very interesting, close relationship. If you know Kate at all she’s this kind of pansexual beast where it’s just like everybody who’s around her falls in love with her and she’s so loving to everybody she’s around. I wanted to let that come out in this character.”

That would suggest Jillian is supposed to be LGBT, but they’re not allowed to say it.

While Star Trek Beyond is making Sulu gay, generally Hollywood is still terribly afraid of having openly LGBT major characters in its big budget movies. The fear is that inclusion will affect the box office – or indeed get the movie banned – in countries where homosexuality is still frowned up or illegal, and may well deter anti-gay elements in the US. As hundreds of millions are being spent on these films, they simply won’t take the risk.

Ghostbusters International Trailer – Get another fresh look at the new team

May 21, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

ghostbusters-2016-slideA couple of days ago we posted the new trailer for the Ghostbusters remake/reboot. Now it’s been joined by its International counterpart, offering some new footage and a further taste of Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon and Leslie Jones’s spook-hunting team, as well as the absolute dimness of Chris Hemsworth’s secretary character.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Ghostbusters makes its long-awaited return, rebooted with a cast of hilarious new characters. Thirty years after the beloved original franchise took the world by storm, director Paul Feig brings his fresh take to the supernatural comedy, joined by some of the funniest actors working today – Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon, Leslie Jones, and Chris Hemsworth. This summer, they’re here to save the world!

The film is produced by Ivan Reitman and Amy Pascal, and written by Katie Dippold & Paul Feig, based on the 1984 film “Ghostbusters,” written by Dan Aykroyd and Harold Ramis and directed by Ivan Reitman.’

New Ghostbusters Trailer – The spooks are back, with only Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig & co. to fight them

May 18, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

ghostbusters-2016-slideEver since it was announced that Sony was reviving the Ghostbusters franchise with a new, all-female team, there have been some grumblers out there saying it shouldn’t have been done. That wasn’t helped by the first trailer, with many saying it made the whole thing look like a complete travesty. Now though, another trailer has arrived, which certainly shows more promise, suggesting something new while having a few callbacks to the original.

This time around the people fighting the ghosts are Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon and Leslie Jones. It’s been confirmed be set in a parallel universe where the events of the earlier movies never happened, although the likes Dan Aykroyd, Bill Murray, Ernie Hudson, Sigourney Weaver and Annie Potts, will be in the film, playing different characters.

Other new faces include Charles Dance, Michael Kenneth Williams and Chris Hemsworth (who’ll be the women’s hunky secretary. Paul Feig (Bridesmaids) directs, with a July release set. Take a look at the new trailer below. [Read more…]

Ghostbusters Trailer – Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig & co. are out to beat the spooks

March 4, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

ghostbusters-2016-slideEver since it was announced that Sony was reviving the Ghostbusters franchise with a new, all-female team, there have been some grumblers out there saying it shouldn’t have been done. However, now the first proper trailer is here, which gives us our first proper look at the movie. While slightly different in tone to the original, it does look like it’ll be a lot of fun.

This time around the people fighting the ghosts are Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon and Leslie Jones. Previous reports have suggested that the film would be set in a parallel universe where the events of the earlier movies never happened, but the trailer suggests that’s not true, although it doesn’t full explain why the actors from the original movies, such as Dan Aykroyd, Bill Murray, Ernie Hudson, Sigourney Weaver and Annie Potts, will be in the film but apparently playing different characters (it’s also notable that they were left out of the trailer).

Other new faces include Charles Dance, Michael Kenneth Williams and Chris Hemsworth (who’ll be the women’s hunky secretary. Paul Feig (Bridesmaids) directs, with a July release set. Take a look at the trailer below.

Get Your First Look At Chris Hemsworth In The Ghostbusters Reboot

February 3, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

ghostbusters-2016-pic1-slideWith this summer’s new take on Ghostbusters, they’re not just swapping the gender of the spook fighters, but also of their secretary. Annie Potts who played Janine Melnitz in 1984’s Ghostbusters and its 1989 sequel has morphed into the form of Chris Hemsworth’s Kevin. Now we can get out first look at him in the movie thanks to a new pic.

Annie Potts will still be around though, but like Sigourney Weaver, Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson, Annie Pitts and even Bill Murray she’ll be playing a different character than in the original. It appears the movie takes place in a parallel universe to the original movies, where the busters never existed and no one knows ghosts exists.

Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon and Leslie Jones will be the women who team up to take on the supernatural – and each of them also gets a new pic too, which you can take a look at below. A trailer is expected very soon (it looks like it might it might arrived to tie in with the Superbowl).

Get A Fresh Look At The Ladies Of The Ghostbusters Reboot

December 16, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

ghostbusters-reboot-pic2

2016’s planned Ghostbusters movie is bit of a hybrid, as it’s both reboot and remake but not quite either. It’s a new plot and the team looking for spooks are now ladies, but it’s aparently a different timeline so the events of the first film never took place. That may come as a bit of a surprise to some, as it’s well known the likes of Sigourney Weaver, Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson, Annie Pitts and even Bill Murray will be in the movie, but all apparently playing different characters.

It would suggest though that this is actually a reboot, which will explain why these people are different to the ones we knew from the original movies, and also why no one is aware ghosts exist (which is apparently why director Paul Feig didn’t want to do a simple continuation of the earlier films).

We’ve had one look at the new female crew of Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon and Leslie Jones, and now a new one has arrived via Planet Ghostbusters, which you can see above.

Chris Hemsworth is also onboard as the girls’ secretary, with Andy Garcia as the mayor of New York City. Expect to see more very soon, including a first trailer, which will hope to get us excited for the July 2016 release.

Melissa McCarthy & Kirsten Wiig Strap On The Proton Packs In The First Official Ghostbusters Reboot Pic

July 11, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

ghostbusters-reboot-pic1Are you only allowed the bust ghosts in single gender groups? In the 1980s it was all men and now the series is getting rebooted with a female team of Ghostbusters – Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon and Leslie Jones.

The odd thing is that while it’s a different team and they’re all women, in this first official pic the whole thing looks very familiar, with similar costumes, the iconic Ghostbusters car, the logo and proton packs.

Director Paul Feig tweeted the first pic of the ladies in costume.

Although not many plot details have been released it’s believed McCarthy and Wiig play women who wrote a book all about how ghosts are real. However that later gets Wiig laughed out of her university job, leading her to reluctantly team with McCarthy, McKinnon and Jones to take on spooks that invade Manhattan.

It’s due out next year.

Chris Hemsworth Will Man The Reception In The Ghostbusters Reboot

June 11, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Thor-Chris-HemsworthAnnie Potts has some competition. While she was the nasal-voiced reception in Ghostbusters 1 & 2 who busily flirted with Rick Moranis, for the female-focussed reboot, the person answering the phones will be Thor himself, Chris Hemsworth.

Director Paul Feig announced the news on Twitter with a pic of Chris and the message ‘Our receptionist.’

There’s not too many other details, although we can already see the ghostbusting quartet of Kristen Wiig, Melissa McCarthy, Kate McKinnon and Leslie Jones swooning over the beefcake assistant.

The film is due to start shooting soon for release in 2016. [Read more…]
