It’s only a few days since Charlie Hunnam dropped out of playing Christian Grey in the movie adaptation of the sexy best-seller Fifty Shades Of Grey. However, with an August 2014 release date, they need to find a replacement asap. THR suggests a shortlist has been drawn up, with Alexander Skarsgard (True Blood) and Jamie Dornan (The Fall) two of the top contenders for the coveted role.
Universal Pictures is also returning to its earlier list of frontrunners, such as Theo James (Divergent) and Christian Cooke (Magic City). Garrett Hedlund had been in contention, but he is currently shooting Angelina Jolie’s Unbroken, so he is no longer available.
The studio has also hired Patrick Marber to perform a polish of the screenplay, based on Kelly Marcel’s drafts. Marber previously wrote the likes of Closer and Notes on a Scandal.
With shooting due to kick off in a few weeks time, expect to hear who has the role very role.
