Jason Blum seems to produce about half of the films coming out of Hollywood nowadays due to his knack for making popular films on extremely tiny budgets, such as Paranormal Activity, Insidious, The Purge and Sinister. Now he’s got a new one and Thomas Jane has signed on to star, according to THR.
The movie is called The Veil, and ‘springs from the real-world headlines of religious cults and mass suicides’. The story starts three decades ago, when members of the Heaven’s Veil religious cult kill themselves. The only one who may know what really happened is the sole survivor, a five-year-old girl. However the truth is buried deep in her memories. She returns to the scene of the mass suicide as an adult, taking a documentary crew along with him. As you’d expect with this sort of movie, it turns out things aren’t as they appear and something terrifying is lurking.
Robert Ben Garant wrote the script. It’s a bit of a departure for him, as normally (alongside Thomas Lennon) the Reno 9ll co-creator has written mainstream family entertainment such as the Night at the Museum films.
Phil Joanou will direct, who previously worked with Jane on the popular unauthorised short, The Punisher: Dirty Laundry. The movie will be shoot in April.
