A couple of months ago Steven Spielberg set his next two movies – an adaptation of Roald Dahl’s The BFG and before that a currently untitled Cold War thriller that will reunite him with Tom Hanks. The latter movie is due to start shooting in September, so there’s not too much time for the director to fill out the rest of the cast.
Mark Rylance is already on-board and now Deadline reports that Amy Ryan, Alan Alda, Billy Magnussen and Eve Hewson are all in talks for the film.
Based on a true story, Tom Hanks is set to play American lawyer James Donovan, who is tasked by the US government to negotiate the release of American U-2 spy plane pilot Francis Gary Powers after his aircraft crashes in the Soviet Union.
Amy Ryan is set to be Donovan’s wife, although it’s not clear who Alda, Magnussen and Hewson will play.
Spielberg is directing from a script by Joel and Ethan Coen.
And if you need evidence of why it’s great news Billy Magnussen will be in the film, take a look at the pic below.
