12 months ago a Minecraft film might have seemed like a bad idea, but after The Lego Movie hit it big, it proved that just because a property doesn’t offer up an obvious story, doesn’t mean it’s a bad idea. Now the movie has a director, as Deadline reports that Night At The Museum and Real Steel’s Shawn Levy is in talks to helm.
The open world video game involves player mining pieces and using the cubes they create to build walls and other constructions in order to protect them from evil nocturnal monsters in a world known as The Nether.
While it initially did have a storyline, it’s now best known for allowing users to create incredible environment, with entire virtual cities being built, as well a recreations of real world environments. It currently has over 100 million registered users.
At the moment it isn’t known when we’ll see the Minecraft movie.
