New Spider-Man Tom Holland Will Take The Lead In Uncharted Adaptation

May 22, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

For over eight years Hollywood has been trying to adapt the hit videogame franchise Uncharted, convinced it might be able to break the curse of game-to-film tranfers. In that time it’s been through numerous writers, directors and actors, all of whom have had a go and then left.

They haven’t given up though, and the latest to come onboard to star is Tom Holland, the young British actor who took the world of Marvel by storm as Spider-man in Captain America: Civil War and who will soon be taking on the role again in Homecoming. Holland will play Nathan Drake in the Uncharted movie, which was originally being designed for an older actor.

Instead Sony (who are also behind Spider-man: Homecoming, of course) will now reconfigure the movie according to Deadline, to be a prequel to the treasure-hunting videogames, telling the story of ‘young thief Drake, and his first encounter with the professional rogue, Sullivan.’

Shawn Levy (Night At The Museum) is set to direct the movie, with Sony now looking for a new screenwriter to rework the script.

Melissa McCarthy Will Be A Live Action Tinker Bell For Director Shawn Levy

November 21, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

melissa-mccarthyDisney even surprised itself with how successful its Disney Fairies franchise has been, with annual movies (which were originally designed to go straight to DVD but have been popular enough that many have now had cinema releases) and a merchandising bonanza.

However it looks like they might be getting a bit of competition, although it’s likely to be rather different to what Disney has produced. Deadline reports that Melissa McCarthy is attached to star in a live action Tinker Bell comedy project for 20th Century Fox and director Shawn Levy.

McCarthy and Levy came up with the fresh take on the Tinker Bell story, and then brought Nick Stoller (Neighbors, The Five-Year Engagement, Get Him to the Greek) to come up with the screenplay. it’s not clear what the new take will be, although it’s presumed this will be a rather different Tink to the one we’re used to.

At the moment it’s also not clear when this might go in front of the camera.

New Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb Trailer – Dan Stevens & Rebel Wilson join Ben Stiller

November 12, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

night-at-the-museum-secret-of-the-tomb-posterFor Night At The Museum: Secret Of The Tomb, Ben Stiller, Robin Williams, Owen Wilson, Steve Coogan and Rami Malek are back, along with franchise newcomers like a very suave looking Dan Stevens as Sir Lancelot and Rebel Wilson as a British security guard in a nifty hat.

For this third instalment the action moves to London, with Stiller’s Larry Page and the museum exhibits looking for a way to save the artefact that allows the inanimate to come to life at night. Perhaps they’ll manage to find a point in bringing things to the UK in the actual film, but it comes across as a little pointless in the trailer – even if the Trafalgar Square lions do come to life.

Take a look at the new full trailer below. The movie will be in cinemas at Christmas. [Read more…]

Shawn Levy Up To Direct Minecraft Film

October 17, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

shawn-levy12 months ago a Minecraft film might have seemed like a bad idea, but after The Lego Movie hit it big, it proved that just because a property doesn’t offer up an obvious story, doesn’t mean it’s a bad idea. Now the movie has a director, as Deadline reports that Night At The Museum and Real Steel’s Shawn Levy is in talks to helm.

The open world video game involves player mining pieces and using the cubes they create to build walls and other constructions in order to protect them from evil nocturnal monsters in a world known as The Nether.

While it initially did have a storyline, it’s now best known for allowing users to create incredible environment, with entire virtual cities being built, as well a recreations of real world environments. It currently has over 100 million registered users.

At the moment it isn’t known when we’ll see the Minecraft movie.

Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb Trailer – Ben Stiller is joined by Dan Stevens & Rebel Wilson

July 30, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

night-at-the-museum-3-slideAfter the first images were released yesterday, it’s time for the trailer for Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb.

As you can see the likes of Ben Stiller, Robin Williams, Owen Wilson, Steve Coogan and Rami Malek are back, along with franchise newcomers like a very suave looking Dan Stevens as Sir Lancelot and Rebel Wilson as a British security guard in a nifty hat.

To be honest, there is a slight sense of laziness this time around, where the action moves to London, with Stiller’s Larry Page and the museum exhibits looking for a way to save the artefact that allows the inanimate to come to life at night. Perhaps they’ll manage to find a point in bringing things to the UK in the actual film, but it comes across as a little pointless in the trailer – even if the Trafalgar Square lions do come to life.

Ben Stiller, Dan Stevens & Co. In The First Pics From Night At The Museum 3

July 29, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Night-at-the-Museum-3-pic3After the success of the first two instalments, Night At The Museum: Secret Of The Tomb is on its way, with a Christmas release date set. Now USA Today has released the first few images, with the promise a trailer will arrive later this week.

The shots feature old faces such as Ben Stiller, Robin Williams and Rami Malek, along with franchise newcomers like a very suave looking Dan Stevens as Sir Lancelot.

And as you may notice by the fact they’re standing in front of the National Gallery in one of the pics below, the action has moved to London this time around. It’s believed the film takes in several of the city’s most famed museums, and centres around the fact the artefact that brings the exhibits to life at night is starting to decay, so Stiller’s Larry Daley and company need to find out what’s going on.

Take a look at the pics above and below.

This Is Where I Leave You Trailer – Shawn Levy does something different with Tina Fey & Jason Bateman

May 28, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Shawn Levy is best known for helming comedies and big family-friendly films such as Night At The Museum, The Internship and Real Steel. However he’s going more towards dramatic dark comedy with This Is Where I Leave You.

He’s certainly teamed up with a great cast to do it, including Jason Bateman, Tina Fey, Adam Driver, Rose Byrne, Corey Stoll, Kathryn Hahn, Connie Britton, Timothy Olyphant, Dax Shepard and Jane Fonda.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘When their father passes away, four grown siblings, bruised and banged up by their respective adult lives, are forced to return to their childhood home and live under the same roof together for a week, along with their over-sharing mother and an assortment of spouses, exes and might-have-beens. Confronting their history and the frayed states of their relationships among the people who know and love them best, they ultimately reconnect in hysterical and emotionally affecting ways amid the chaos, humor, heartache and redemption that only families can provide— driving us insane even as they remind us of our truest, and often best, selves.

The film will hit cinemas this September. [Read more…]

Ben Kingsley Will Get In Pharaonic Night At The Museum 3

January 24, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

ben-kingsleyWith production due to start soon, Shawn Levy is busy filling out the cast of Night Of The Museum 3. Now he’s added another name, as Deadline reports that Ben Kingsley has signed up for the movie. He joins returning stars such as Robin Williams, Ricky Gervais, Owen Wilson and Steve Coogan, as well as newcomers Dan Stevens and Rebel Wilson.

Kingsley with play a formidable Egyptian pharaoh who is on display in the British Museum – and yes, that does mean the franchise is moving to Britain this time. It’s not known whether Kingsley’s character will be on the side of good or bad, although it’s believed Dan Steven’s Sir Lancelot will be the main bad guy this time around. It’s also not known if the British Museum will be the only one of London’s attractions which will come to life in the film.

Shawn Levy will once more direct, working from a screenplay by franchise creators Thomas Lennon and Robert Ben Garant. Night At The Museum is currently due out just before Christmas.

Rebel Wilson Up For Night At The Museum 3

January 10, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

rebel-wilsonAwesome Aussie Rebel Wilson has lined up her next gig, as Pitch Perfect and Pain & Pain’s Rebel Wilson has taken a supporting role in Night at the Museum 3, according to Deadline.

It’s not known at the moment exactly who Wilson will play, although she is apparently more likely to play a fellow museum security guard alongside Ben Stiller than a historical figure. She may have a role similar to Jonah Hill in Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian – although probably playing a Brit, as the latest film brings the magical museum exhibits to London.

She joins returning cast members Stiller, Robin Williams, Ricky Gervais, Owen Wilson and Steve Coogan. At the moment, the only other newcomer besides Rebel is former Downton star, Dan Stevens, who will play the villainous Sir Lancelot. Shawn Levy will once more direct, working from a screenplay by franchise creators Thomas Lennon and Robert Ben Garant.

Shawn Levy & Will Smith Up For The City That Sailed

November 15, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

will-smithFor a while now Will Smith has been circling an adaptation of The City That Sailed. Now he’s firmed up his commitment to the movie, and director Shawn Levy (Night At The Museum, The Internship) has come onboard, according to Deadline.

The rather unusual adventure movie is about ‘a father and daughter on the island of Manhattan as it breaks loose and sails across the Atlantic Ocean’. Luckily this isn’t an OTT disaster film, as the city breaks off after the daughter finds magic candles that makes wishes come true. One of those wishes goes wrong when the city breaks away from the rest of the US and heads off across the ocean.

Audrey Wells is writing the script. There’s no news on when it might shoot, but it won’t be for a while as Levy has to make Night At The Museum 3 first.
