For quite a while it looked like we were going to get a David Fincher version of 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea, but unfortunately the movie he was developing with Disney fell apart of budget and creative differences.
Now though it appears Bryan Singer is working on a movie version of Jules Verne’s classic novel. The director revealed the news himself on his Instagram, saying ‘It’s my 50th birthday (ouch), and I just put the finishing touches on the script for my next film. A story I’ve wanted to retell since childhood. I promise this will be an epic and emotional adventure for all ages! An adventure very dear to my heart. Not abandoning the #xmen universe. Very excited about #xmenapocalypse and beyond. #julesverne #20000leaguesunderthesea #nemo’
While the last time he took on a classic tale with Jack The Giant Slayer resulted in the biggest bomb of his career, hopefully this time he’ll have more success.
There’s not too much news on exactly what direction the film will take on the story of Captain Nemo and his incredible submarine, the Nautilus. Rick Sordelet and Dan Studney (featured in the picture below) are writing the script.
