Wolverine’s James Mangold Set To Direct Disney’s Captain Nemo

For quite a few years now, Disney has been developing a movie based around Jules Verne’s 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea. However, it’s had a few problems, not least David Fincher spending ages putting it together but then leaving due to budget disagreements.

Now it’s coming back together with Wolverine’s James Mangold set to direct, according to THR.

The movie will be a loose adaptation of 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea, which is currently going under the title Captain Nemo. Beyond that, there’s not too much news on exactly what direction the film will take on the story of Captain Nemo and his incredible submarine, the Nautilus.

It’s not likely we’ll see the movie for a while though, as Mangold is currently developing another Wolverine movies, which will almost certainly come before Nemo.

Bryan Singer Plans 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea Movie

September 18, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Bryan-SingerFor quite a while it looked like we were going to get a David Fincher version of 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea, but unfortunately the movie he was developing with Disney fell apart of budget and creative differences.

Now though it appears Bryan Singer is working on a movie version of Jules Verne’s classic novel. The director revealed the news himself on his Instagram, saying ‘It’s my 50th birthday (ouch), and I just put the finishing touches on the script for my next film. A story I’ve wanted to retell since childhood. I promise this will be an epic and emotional adventure for all ages! An adventure very dear to my heart. Not abandoning the #xmen universe. Very excited about #xmenapocalypse and beyond. #julesverne #20000leaguesunderthesea #nemo’

While the last time he took on a classic tale with Jack The Giant Slayer resulted in the biggest bomb of his career, hopefully this time he’ll have more success.

There’s not too much news on exactly what direction the film will take on the story of Captain Nemo and his incredible submarine, the Nautilus. Rick Sordelet and Dan Studney (featured in the picture below) are writing the script. [Read more…]

David Fincher’s 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea Heads For Australia

February 16, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

david-fincherFor a couple of years David Fincher has been hoping to remake 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea for Disney, but there have been a few problems with getting a greenlight – not least the fact that the failure of John Carter has made the studio a little shy of massive budget movies not based on superheroes.

However it now appears things are moving forward, with THR reporting that Disney is in talks to make 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea: Captain Nemo in Australia. The country is offering a rebate, which is worth between $12 and $30 million depending on which source you believe. If the studio decides to take the project down under, production would likely take place at Village Roadshow Studios in Queensland and Fox Studios in Sydney. It’s likely to be the biggest production to ever take place in Australia.

However, previous reports that Brad Pitt would star in the film no longer appear to be true, although that could change once again when the script and shooting plans get firmer.

Scott Burns wrote the script, which based on Jules Verne’s classic novel about Captain Nemo and his incredible ship, the Nautilus.
