It took four years for director Neill Blomkamp to make a follow-up to District 9, with Elysium due in cinemas this summer. Blomkamp seems keen to ensure there’s not such a big gap until his next movie, as he’s already cast Sharlto Copley in his upcoming movie, Chappie, according to EW.
Copley appears in both District 9 and Elysium, so Blomkamp is certainly sticking with his friend. Unfortunately though, little is known about the story of Chappie, except that it is a sci-fi comedy that takes place in a ‘unique setting’.
Neill Blomkamp is directing Chappie from a screenplay he co-wrote with District 9 scripter Terri Tatchell.
Aside from Elysium, which opens on August 9, Sharlto Copley will next be seen in Spike Lee’s Oldboy, Sebastián Cordero’s Europa Report, and Robert Stromberg’s Maleficent.
