Theo James Gets Male Lead in Divergent, With Aaron Eckhart & More Circling

March 16, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Theo-JamesVarious people have been cast in Divergent, but Summit has been difficulty finding the male lead. Actors such as Alex Pettyfer and Lucas Till have auditioned and the company has looked at people of various ages, but now they’ve finally gone for a actor who’s not too well known at the moment, but whose star is certainly on the rise – Theo James.

The 26-year-old has been seen in the TV series Bedlam, and in the films The Inbetweeners Movie and Underworld: Awakening, but its his lead role in the new CBS TV drama Golden Boy that’s really got people interested in him.

Based on Veronica Roth’s novel, Divergent is a adventure set in a future world where people are divided into distinct factions based on their personalities, Tris Prior (Shailene Woodley) is warned she is Divergent and will never fit into any one group. When she discovers a conspiracy to destroy all Divergents, she must find out what makes being Divergent so dangerous before it’s too late.

James will play Four, a man with a mysterious past, who is  Tris’ intense yet charismatic instructor and one of the leaders of the Dauntless faction.

Variety adds that Miles Teller, Ray Stevenson and Aaron Eckhart are also circling roles in the movie (Teller seems set as he’s mentioned he’ll be in the movie on Twitter), but there’s no news on exactly who they might play

Neil Burger (Limitless) will direct from a script by Vanessa Taylor. It commences principal photography this April in Chicago, with a March 21st, 2014 release set.

Olympus Has Fallen Trailer – Gerard Butler takes on terrorists

January 23, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

The White House isn’t going to do well this year, as it’s being taken over by terrorists in both Roland Emmerich’s White House Down and Antoine Fuqua’s Olympus Has Fallen. It’s the latter which arrives first on March 22nd in the US and April 19th in the UK, and now the trailer for the movie has arrived.

It all looks very Die Hard at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, with Gerard Butler as an ex-special forces officer taken off the President’s security detail after an accident. However when international terrorists attack the White House and take the President (Aaron Eckhart) hostage. It also stars Morgan Freeman, Angela Bassett and Ashley Judd.

While the trailer does suggest a movie that’ll be completely over the top, it could also be quite fun. We’ll have to wait and see.

Olympus Has Fallen For Angela Bassett

June 26, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Just yesterday, Aaron Eckhart signed up to play the President in Olympus Has Fallen, and now the film has another star as Variety reports that Angela Bassett will also appear in the movie, which Antoine Fuqua is directing.

The film centres on Gerard Butler’s former Secret Service agent who tries to save the White House after terrorists attack the presidential residence. The plot has been described as Die Hard in the White House. Bassett is due to play the head of the Secret Service, in charge of protecting the President.

The movie is quite similar to Roland Emmerich’s White House Down, which is also racing into production with Jamie Foxx as the President and Channing Tatum as the Secret Service Agent who must take the White House back. Both movies will shoot later this year for release in 2013.

Aaron Eckhart Joins Olympus Has Fallen

June 25, 2012 By Tim Isaac 1 Comment

The White House is gonna be in trouble at cinemas next year, as two movies are in the works that see terrorists taking over the President’s house and Secret Service agents having to take it back. Now Antoine Fuqua’s Olympus Has Fallen has got its US President, as Variety reports that Aaron Eckhart has signed up to play the role.

Chloe Moretz & Rupert Grint Join The Drummer

March 15, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

The biopic of Dennis Wilson, The Drummer, gets a little closer to the screen, with Variety reporting that Chloe Moretz and Rupert Grint have signed up to star alongside the already cast Aaron Eckhart and Vera Farmiga.

Eckhart will play The Beach Boys drummer Wilson, with the film focusing on the last six years of his life. Dennis is generally seen as the dark horse of the Beach Boys, but the last few years of his life saw him stepping into the limelight and releasing a solo album, Pacific Ocean Blue, in 1977 (Eckhart will apparently record his own versions of songs from that record, and classically trained pianist Farmiga is set to make her own music as well, as Fleetwood Mac singer Christine McVie, who was romantically involved with Dennis).

However he was also battling with drug and alcohol problems and eventually drowned whilst swimming drunk. Chloe Moretz will play Brian Wilson’s daughter, Jennifer, while Rupert Grint is playing Stan Shapiro, a mail room intern at William Morris who befriends Dennis Wilson.

Randall Miller (Bottle Shock) is directing with production scheduled to begin June 15th.

Vera Farmiga Takes Up With The Drummer As Fleetwood Mac’s Christine McVie

January 31, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

As the cast of The Drummer starts to fill up, it’ll be interesting to see which actors take on which musicians of the late 70s. The movie is a biopic of the last six years of the life of Beach boys drummer Dennis Wilson’s life, up to his death in 1983.

Aaron Eckhart is already on for the lead role and now Variety reports that Vera Farmiga has joined him as Fleetwood Mac’s Christine McVie.

While Dennis is generally seen as the dark horse of the Beach Boys, the last few years of his life saw him stepping into the limelight and releasing a solo album, Pacific Ocean Blue, in 1977 (Eckhart will apparently record his own versions of songs from that record, and classically trained pianist Farmiga is set to make her own music as well). However he was also battling with drug and alcohol problems and eventually drowned whilst swimming drunk. Much of the joy and pain in his life at the time came from his tumultuous relationship with McVie.

Shooting is set to begin in June, under the direction of Bottle Shock’s Randall Miller. It’ll be interesting to see who else joins the cast before then.

Aaron Eckhart To Play Beach Boys Drummer

October 22, 2011 By Movie Muser Leave a Comment

Drummers often get overlooked in the history of music, but Dennis Wilson, drummer for the Beach Boys and brother of bandmates Carl and Brian, is getting his own biopic, simply titled The Drummer.

Variety reports that the film now has a lead actor in the form of Aaron Eckhart, who’s onboard to play Dennis. He’s apparently been in negotiations for the film for several months, and after signing on for I Frankenstein recently he’s decided to also commit to this.

However seeing as Dennis is generally seen as the dark horse of the Beach Boys, the real question is why he’s worth making a movie about. The film will focus on the last six years of his life, until his death in 1983. That time saw him stepping into the limelight, releasing a solo album, Pacific Ocean Blue in 1977 (Eckhart will apparently record his own versions of songs from that record). However he was also battling with drug and alcohol problems and eventually drowned whilst swimming drunk.

It doesn’t seem therefore that the movie will touch too much on Wilson’s late 60s involvement with Charles Manson, which some saying this is what eventually led to the murder of Roman Polanski’s pregnant wife, Sharon Tate. They may find a way of tucking that in, but as Dennis always hated mention of his involvement with Manson, and two of his children are involved in the film as producers, they may just ignore that aspect of his life completely.

Randy Miller (Bottle Shock) will direct, with shooting scheduled to begin next year, probably in the early summer.
