Naomi Watts hasn’t made many big mainstream movies since 2005’s King Kong, and when she has – such as the thriller Dream House – they haven’t done that well. It’s a smart move they to join the Divergent sequels, which are almost guaranteed to be a success when they’re released.
According to THR she’ll appear in Insurgent, Allegiant: Part 1 and Allegiant: Part 2 as Factionless leader Evelyn. Insurgent began production in Atlanta last week, so she’ll be stepping into the role very soon.
Insurgent will apparently shoot until Septmenber, as which point Watts will move on to Sea of Trees, where she’ll co-star with Matthew McConaughey and Ken Watanabe.
Shailene Woodley and Theo James are both back for Insurgent as Tris and Four. Their character are now on the run from the power-hungry Jeanine (Kate Winslet), attempting to unlock the mysteries of the past that could alter the future of their universe.
Jai Courtney, Ray Stevenson, Zoë Kravitz, Miles Teller, Ansel Elgort, Maggie Q, Mekhi Phifer and Octavia Spencer also star. Robert Schwentke is directing from a screenplay by Brian Duffield and Akiva Goldsman.
