Big Game (DVD Review)

September 21, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Starring: Samuel L. Jackson, Onni Tommila, Ray Stevenson, Victor Garber, Felicity Huffman
Director: Jalmari Helander
Running Time: 90 mins
Certificate: 15
Release Date: September 21st 2015 (UK)

Big Game will not be winning the award ‘Most Sensible Movie Of The Year’. Indeed it reaches Fast & Furious levels of preposterousness, where you either have to submit to its inherent silliness or alternatively break down in tears and decry the state of modern entertainment. Personally I went for the former.

The US President (Samuel L. Jackson) is flying to some important talks when an evil terrorist (played by an actor who looks the dictionary definition of ‘stereotypical foreign bad guy’) blows Air Force One out of the sky. The Pres is put in an escape capsule and dropped into the middle of the remote Finnish wilderness. [Read more…]

Zachary Levi & Ray Stevenson Get Thor: The Dark World Character Posters

October 3, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Over the last few weeks a slew of Thor: The Dark World posters have emerged, showing off various characters. Now we’ve got two more, featuring Zachary Levi’s Fandral and Ray Stevenson’s Folstagg. They’re certainly looking pretty cool.

Here’s the film’s synopsis: ‘Marvel’s “Thor: The Dark World” continues the big-screen adventures of Thor, the Mighty Avenger, as he battles to save Earth and all the Nine Realms from a shadowy enemy that predates the universe itself.  In the aftermath of Marvel’s “Thor” and “Marvel’s The Avengers,” Thor fights to restore order across the cosmos…but an ancient race led by the vengeful Malekith returns to plunge the universe back into darkness. Faced with an enemy that even Odin and Asgard cannot withstand, Thor must embark on his most perilous and personal journey yet, one that will reunite him with Jane Foster and force him to sacrifice everything to save us all.

‘Starring Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, Tom Hiddleston, Stellan Skarsgård, Idris Elba, Christopher Eccleston, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Kat Dennings, Ray Stevenson, Zachary Levi, Tadanobu Asano, and Jaimie Alexander with Rene Russo and Anthony Hopkins as Odin, Marvel’s “Thor: The Dark World” is directed by Alan Taylor, produced by Kevin Feige, from a story by Don Payne (credit not final) and screenplay by Christopher Yost and Christopher Markus & Stephen McFeely (credit not final) and is based on Marvel’s classic Super Hero Thor, who first appeared in the comic book “Journey into Mystery “ #83 in August, 1962.’

The film’s out in the UK on October 30th and the US a week later.

Theo James Gets Male Lead in Divergent, With Aaron Eckhart & More Circling

March 16, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Theo-JamesVarious people have been cast in Divergent, but Summit has been difficulty finding the male lead. Actors such as Alex Pettyfer and Lucas Till have auditioned and the company has looked at people of various ages, but now they’ve finally gone for a actor who’s not too well known at the moment, but whose star is certainly on the rise – Theo James.

The 26-year-old has been seen in the TV series Bedlam, and in the films The Inbetweeners Movie and Underworld: Awakening, but its his lead role in the new CBS TV drama Golden Boy that’s really got people interested in him.

Based on Veronica Roth’s novel, Divergent is a adventure set in a future world where people are divided into distinct factions based on their personalities, Tris Prior (Shailene Woodley) is warned she is Divergent and will never fit into any one group. When she discovers a conspiracy to destroy all Divergents, she must find out what makes being Divergent so dangerous before it’s too late.

James will play Four, a man with a mysterious past, who is  Tris’ intense yet charismatic instructor and one of the leaders of the Dauntless faction.

Variety adds that Miles Teller, Ray Stevenson and Aaron Eckhart are also circling roles in the movie (Teller seems set as he’s mentioned he’ll be in the movie on Twitter), but there’s no news on exactly who they might play

Neil Burger (Limitless) will direct from a script by Vanessa Taylor. It commences principal photography this April in Chicago, with a March 21st, 2014 release set.

The Three Musketeers (3D Blu-ray)

February 27, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Starring: Logan Lerman, Ray Stevenson, Matthew MacFadyen, Luke Evans, Milla Jovovich
Director: Paul W.S. Anderson
Running Time: 110 mins
Certificate: 12
Release Date: February 27th, 2012

I’ve said before that I think Paul W.S. Anderson is the best bad director there is, and he proves that again here, delivering a load of very good action set-pieces and individual scenes, but overall creating a movie that verges on the incoherent.

Logan Lerman plays D’Artagnan, a country boy who heads for Paris with the hope of being a musketeer like his father before him. However he’s arrived too late, as the legendary Porthos (Ray Stevenson), Athos (Matthew MacFadyen) and Aramis (Luke Evans) are out of favour and the musketeers are no more. [Read more…]
