Milla Jovovich Will Be Getting Villainous In The Hellboy Reboot

August 8, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

After battling with the advanced AI the White Queen in the Resident Evil movies, Milla Jovovich will be becoming a Blood Queen for the planned reboot of Hellboy. As that name suggests, she will be the villain of the piece.

She joins David Harbour (Stranger Things) as Hellboy, with Ian McShane recently signing on as the big, red demon’s protector and mentor, Professor Broom, and Neil Marshall (The Descent, Dog Soldiers) in talks to direct. It also looks like the film may be called Hellboy: Rise of the Blood Queen, as that was included in Deadline’s first version of their story about Jovovich’s casting, although it was hastily removed.

The movie should start shooting in September, so expect to see it sometime in 2018 or early 2019. Neil Marshall (The Descent, Dog Soldiers) is set to direct from a script by Aron Coleite, Andrew Cosby, Christopher Golden and Hellboy creator Mike Mignola.

Resident Evil: The Final Chapter (Blu-ray Review) – The end of Milla Jovovich’s Alice?

June 11, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Starring: Milla Jovovich, Iain Glen, Ali Larter, Shawn Roberts, Eoin Macken
Director: Paul W.S. Anderson
Running Time: 107 mins
Certificate: 15
Release Date: June 12th 2017 (UK)

Resident Evil is the most successful videogame-to-film franchise ever, and the first to cross a billion dollars at the box office. To be honest though, that’s more because the competition has generally been so awful, rather than because Resident Evil is so good.

This was promised as the final part of the story of Alice (Milla Jovovich), although thanks to a $300 million gross (largely due to its popularity in China, as it bombed in the US) don’t be surprised if it returns to the big screen in some form. Set shortly after the last movie, Retribution, Alice is one of the few survivors of humanity, trapped between the undead on one side, and the evil Umbrella Corporation on the other. [Read more…]

Resident Evil: The Final Chapter Trailer – Milla Jovovich is back as Alice one last time

October 9, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

resident-evil-final-chapter-poster-slideBelieve it or not, Resident Evil is the most-successful videogame-to-movie franchise ever. Now it’s returning once more with a fifth film featuring Milla Jovovich as Alice – although as the title suggests, this one is planned as the last instalment (until they inevitably decide to reboot it).

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Picking up immediately after the events in Resident Evil: Retribution, Alice (Milla Jovovich) is the only survivor of what was meant to be humanity’s final stand against the undead. Now, she must return to where the nightmare began – The Hive in Raccoon City, where the Umbrella Corporation is gathering its forces for a final strike against the only remaining survivors of the apocalypse.’

The film will be out next February. Take a look at the new trailer below. [Read more…]

Cymbeline Trailer – Ethan Hawke and Milla Jovovich give Shakespeare a Sons Of Anarchy style twist

September 3, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

cymbeline-slideCymbeline may not be the most famous of Shakespeare’s tales, but decided it was good enough to do what he did with Hamlet back in 2000, and given it a modern day retelling.

As with Hamlet, he’s brought Ethan Hawke onboard to star, with Ed Harris, Milla Jovovich, John Leguizamo, Penn Badgley, Dakota Johnson and Anton Yelchin also starring.

Cymbeline tells the tale as an epic battle between dirty cops and a drug dealing biker gang set in a corruption-riddled 21st century America. King Cymbeline, leader of the Briton Motorcycle Club, clashes with the corrupt Roman Police while his radiant but disobedient daughter Imogen fends off assaults on her honor and her life. Cymbeline’s wife and her son aspire to take over the king’s empire, and Imogen’s marriage to Posthumus is undermined by sinister interference from Iachimo, a malevolent stranger. Shakespeare’s timeless themes are love and betrayal, revenge and forgiveness, death and renewal.

In the original play Imogen dresses as a boy and leaves to go and find her exiled lover, but whether the new film will feature any cross-dressing is yet to be seen. Cymbeline premieres imminently at Venice, with a cinema release expected next year. [Read more…]

Milla Jovovich Going Modern-Day Shakespeare In Cymbeline

August 9, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Milla-JovovichWith an imminent start date, director Michael Almereyda is having to pull the cast together fast for his new take on Shakspeare’s Cymbeline. In the last week or so Ethan Hawke, Ed Harris and Penn Badgley have signed on, and now they’ve been joined by Milla Jovovich.

Set in the modern day but based on Shakespeare’s play, Cymbeline unfolds as an epic battle between dirty cops and a drug dealing biker gang set in a corruption-riddled 21st century America. The original play told the story of Imogen, a princess whose father doesn’t approve of the man she has chosen to love. When her lover is banished and sent to fight in a war, Imogen dresses as a boy and leaves to go find him. The new take is described as being, ‘In the vein of Sons of Anarchy and in the style of Romeo + Juliet, Cymbeline is a fresh take on a universal story of love, betrayal and revenge.’

Milla Jovovich will apparently be the Queen, although there’s no news on exactly how she fits into the film – she could be the movie’s version of Imogen, but it’s more likely she’s her mother. Principal photography starts on August 19, 2013 in New York City.

Anjelica Huston & David Thewlis Join Milla Jovovich In The Winter Queen

January 8, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Anjelica-HustonA few months ago, Milla Jovovich signed up to star in The Winter Queen. Now she’s got some company as it’s been announced that both Anjelica Huston and David Thewlis are in talks to join her. They will play Lady Astair and Count Zurov opposite Jovovich’s Lady Amalia.

Based on the internationally best selling novel by Boris Akunin and helmed by acclaimed Russian director Fedor Bondarchuk, The Winter Queen tells the story of intrepid young police detective Erast Fandorin and a mystery that begins with the suicides of several wealthy young men throughout 1886 Russia and ends in an extensive plot for global domination.

Fandorin’s naïve wit and the suave yet volatile Count Zurov are his only protection from the ever more elaborate attempts on his life as he follows the conspiracy from Russia to England and back again; navigating unknown worlds with charm if not with ease. The enigmatic femme fatale Amalia seems to be somehow at the centre of it all, but can the saintly British aristocrat Lady Astair, founder of a string of orphanages which have greatly benefited from the wills of the affluent dead men, really be trusted?

Additional casting announcements will be made shortly with principal photography expected to commence this April.
