New Snowden Trailer – Oliver Stone directs Joseph Gordon-Levitt in the whistleblower tale

July 23, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

joseph-gorden-levitt-as-edward-snowdenSnowden isn’t your usual Comic-Con fare, but the Oliver Stone film had a well-received panel in San Diego, which even included the real Edward Snowden participating via video link. For the rest of us, there’s a new trailer, which you can take a look at below.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Academy Award®-winning director Oliver Stone, who brought Platoon, Born on the Fourth of July, Wall Street and JFK to the big screen, tackles the most important and fascinating true story of the 21st century. Snowden, the politically-charged, pulse-pounding thriller starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Shailene Woodley, reveals the incredible untold personal story of Edward Snowden, the polarizing figure who exposed shocking illegal surveillance activities by the NSA and became one of the most wanted men in the world. He is considered a hero by some, and a traitor by others. No matter which you believe, the epic story of why he did it, who he left behind, and how he pulled it off makes for one of the most compelling films of the year.’

Shailene Woodley, Melissa Leo, Zachary Quinto, Tom Wilkinson, Rhys Ifans, and Nicolas Cage also star.

Snowden was originally due to be released at the end of last year, however it was pushed back to September 2016. Take a look at the trailer below. [Read more…]

Snowden Trailer – Oliver Stone directs Joseph Gordon-Levitt in the whistleblower tale

April 27, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

joseph-gorden-levitt-as-edward-snowdenTo some Edward Snowden is a traitor, while to others he is a hero who blew the whistle of government spying programs. Now Oliver Stone is taking on the tale, with Joseph Gordon-Levitt as Snowden.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Academy Award®-winning director Oliver Stone, who brought Platoon, Born on the Fourth of July, Wall Street and JFK to the big screen, tackles the most important and fascinating true story of the 21st century. Snowden was originally due to be released at the end of last year, however it was pushed back (not a good sign) to September 2016, although there have been rumours it may get moved back again. Take a look at the trailer below. [Read more…]

Nicolas Cage Joins Oliver Stone’s Edward Snowden Biopic

February 23, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

nicolas-cageOliver Stone is bringing together a great cast for his planned biopic of Edward Snowden. Joseph Gordon Levitt is taking the lead role, with Shailene Woodley, Scott Eastwood, Zachary Quinto, Melissa Leo, Rhys Ifans, Joely Richardson, and Tom Wilkinson also onboard.

Now THR reports that Cage has joined the movie, playing a former U.S. Intelligence official, although it’s not clear exactly which one he will be.

Oliver Stone will direct from a screenplay he co-wrote with Kieran Fitzgerald (The Homesman), which will look at Snowden, the infamous NSA operative who leaked thousands of highly sensitive government papers, causing great controversy and revealing a cache of hidden information. It made him a hero to some and a pariah to others.

As well as Snowden himself the film will cover the others involved, such as the people who helped Edward get the documents into the public domain, including Laura Poitras, who won an Oscar yesterday for her Snowden documentary Citizenfour (and will be played by Melissa Leo in the movie).

Stone’s biopic should start shooting soon.

Joe (DVD Review)

October 6, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Starring: Nicolas Cage, Tye Sheridan, Gary Poulter
Director: David Gordon Green
Running Time: 114 mins
Certificate: 15
Release Date: October 6th 2014 (DVD)

Nicolas Cage may be an Oscar-winning actor, but in recent years he’s largely become synonymous with an endless string of not particularly great movies where he gives one of his interchangeable extreme wild-man performances, where restraint is regarded as an alien concept.

Joe gives us something a little different, with Cage playing title character Joe Ransom, a character who spends much of the movie trying to keep a lid on the fiery, violent temper that lies underneath. It was an extremely smart move to cast the actor, as you can genuinely feel Cage pulling in the tics and extreme tendencies he has shown in endless movies in the last few years. [Read more…]

Left Behind Trailer – God doesn’t like Nicolas Cage enough to Rapture him

May 31, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Post by Left Behind.

Many were surprised when a bigger budget remake of Left Behind was announced. While Jerry B. Jenkins and Tim LaHaye’s novel series and the early 2000s films adaptations have a following, it’s mainly amongst a particular section of the American religious right who are big into ‘The Rapture’.

Nevertheless they signed up the likes of Nicolas Cage, Chad Michael Murray and Lea Thompson for the movie, and now the trailer has arrive.

The story follows a group trying to survive in the aftermath of the Rapture, which has seen all the true Christians being spirited up to heaven, leaving everyone else behind to deal with the end of days. Cage is plays Ray Steele, a neglectful dad and pilot who finds God too late and so forms the Tribulation Force to cope with the coming carnage.=

Paul Lalonde, who wrote the original Left Behind in 2001, and John Patus, who wrote the last instalment of the earlier film series, Left Behind: World at War, came up with the screenplay. Stun legend Vic Armstrong directs.

From the trailer is seems the overly pious tone of the earlier movies has been toned down for this version, instead trying to sell it as more of a mainstream action movie with a religion bent. [Read more…]

Rage Trailer – Nicolas Cage gets into pulp thriller mode

May 8, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Nicolas Cage loves movies with ridiculously generic titles – Trespass, Drive Angry, Stolen, Outcast – and now he’s got another one: Rage. And like the others, the trailer lets us know we’re in thriller territory.

In the film, ‘When the Russian mob kidnaps the daughter of a reformed criminal, he rounds up his old crew and seeks his own brand of justice.’

So yes, it’s a incredibly generic plot too.

It just makes you wonder, does nobody offer Cage interesting, challenging roles anymore, or do they simply not pay enough? Oh well, let’s just hope Rage is fun.

In the US the film will be available On Demand on June 10th and in cinemas on July 11th. [Read more…]
