Starring: Vanessa Hudgens, Rosario Dawson, Brendan Fraser, James Earl Jones
Director: Ronald Kauss
Running Time: 97 mins
Certificate: 15
Release Date: July 14th 2014 (UK)

Vanessa Hudgens continues her quest to prove she’s decidedly not a squeaky clean Disney Channel star anymore. In Gimme Shelter she is Apple, a teenager dealing with a childhood where she’s been in and out of often abusive foster case and has a junkie mother (Rosario Dawson) who only cares about the welfare check she brings in.

Apple runs away to find the father she never knew (Brendan Fraser), but when that doesn’t go well and she discovers that she’s pregnant, she starts to feel life on the streets may be her only option – until she finds potential salvation when a priest (James Earl Jones) tells her about a home for teen moms. Back in 1997 John Cusack was busy trying to track down Nicolas Cage in Con Air. Now the roles have been reversed in The Frozen Ground. The Frozen Ground Trailer – Nicolas Cage & Vanessa Hudgens hunt John Cusack

June 10, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Nicolas Cage, John Cusack and Vanessa Hudgens team up for the thriller The Frozen Ground, which looks both chilly and moody in this trailer.

The film follows Alaskan State Trooper Jack Halcombe (Cage), who sets out to end the murderous rampage of Robert Hansen (Cusack), a serial killer who has gone unnoticed for 13 years. As the bodies of street girls start to pile up in Anchorage, fear strikes a chord with the public. Risking his life, Halcombe goes on a personal manhunt to find the killer before the next body surfaces. When a seventeen year old escapee (Hudgens) reveals key information about the case, Halcombe is finally on the trail of the killer. But will he catch him in time to save the next victim?

It’s due out in the US on August 26th and should reach the UK later this year. [Read more…]

Spring Breakers Trailer – Harmony Korine teams up with James Franco and goes a little girls gone wild

January 18, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Everything is about James Franco at the moment – this is the third story I’ve posted about him today! He stars in this one, teaming up with Gummo and Trash Humpers director for Spring Breakers.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Brit (Ashley Benson), Candy (Vanessa Hudgens), Cotty (Rachel Korine), and Faith (Selena Gomex) have been best friends since grade school. They live together in a boring college dorm and are hungry for adventure. All they have to do is save enough money for spring break to get their shot at having some real fun. A serendipitous encounter with rapper “Alien” (James Franco) promises to provide the girls with all the thrill and excitement they could hope for. With the encouragement of their new friend, it soon becomes unclear how far the girls are willing to go to experience a spring break they will never forget.’

While the movie itself is getting mixed reviews, there’s been a lot of praise for Franco, who really seems to throw himself into the hair-braided role.

Vanessa Hudgens & Ashley Tisdale Reunite For The Great Migration

September 21, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

High School Musical actresses Ashley Tisdale and Vanessa Hudgens are set to reunite as part of the voice cast for the upcoming animated movie The Great Migration. They will be join Ashley Benson of Pretty Little Liars, along with Big Time Rush band members Kendall Schmidt and Logan Henderson in the movie. Big Time Rush has also commited to providing original songs for the soundtrack.

Kevin G. Schmidt, who wrote the story, will also be featured in the cast. Here is what he had to say about this environmentally pointed tale, “The idea for The Great Migration arrived in my email inbox via a weekly newsletter from an alternative physician I follow in Chicago. The film centres on a group of characters that encounter a mutated predator threatening to destroy the balance of their environment.”

The movie will be created using pre-visualization technicques, which will provide a high quality animation below current market price. The Great Migration is expected to begin production this November.

The Anderson family sure have a knack of getting lost in Jules Verne-ian places! Journey 2: The Mysterious Island UK Trailer

November 26, 2011 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

To watch this video, you need the latest Flash-Player and active javascript in your browser.

Parody trailers that make a movie from one genre look like it’s from another (e.g. making The Shining seems like a comedy) are popular of Youtube, and now we have the same thing for an actual movie. The US trailer for Journey 2: The Mysterious Island hit a couple of weeks ago and painted this follow-up to Journey To The Center Of The Earth as a rather silly, fun family romp, but not the UK trailer turns everything far darker and more dramatic (until the end at least). It does look like it might be oddly entertaining though. Brendan Fraser bailed on this one after director Erik Brevig was replaced by Brad Peyton, and so this time Dwayne Johnson’s along for the ride, playing Hutcherson’s prospective stepfather, while Vanessa Hudgens and Luis Guzman also have to deal with various strange beasties on the titular island, all while looking for Michael Caine! It’s due in cinemas February 10th.
