Transformers: Age Of Extinction (Blu-ray Review)

November 17, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Starring: Mark Wahlberg, Nicola Peltz, Jack Reynor, Stanley Tucci, Kelsey Grammer
Director: Michael Bay
Running Time: 165 mins
Certificate: 12
Release Date: November 17th 2014 (UK)

Reviewing Transformers: Age Of Extinction seems slightly pointless. It has an abysmal 18% rating on RottenTomatoes, with only 32 out of 178 that collated reviews saying it’s a decent movie. Despite that it’s currently the highest grossing movie of 2014 worldwide with over $1 billion in the bank (largely thanks to a gargantuan gross in China). So whether anyone says it’s good or bad seems a little irrelevant.

But just for the record, it’s not a good movie. [Read more…]

Legends Of Oz: Dorothy’s Return (DVD Review)

September 29, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Starring: Lea Michele, Dan Aykroyd, Kelsey Grammer, John Belushi, Martin Short
Director: Will Finn, Dan St. Pierre
Running Time: 88 mins
Certificate: PG
Release Date: September 22nd 2014 (UK)

I get the impression that whoever did the casting on Legends Of Oz: Dorothy’s Return must have a fondness for the 1980s. After all bringing in Dan Aykroyd (the Scarecrow), Kelsey Grammer (Tin Man), John Belushi (Lion) and Martin Short (Jester) to play some of the voices can’t be a coincidence.

But that’s by-the-by to this sequel to The Wizard Of Oz, which is pretty much the same as the earlier story but different. Dorothy is just back from Oz when she gets snatched up (by a rainbow this time) and dumped back in the magical country. Once more she needs to get to the Emerald City, this time enlisting the help of an overweight owl, a prissy princess made of bone china, a marshmallow soldier and a talking tree that gets turned into a boat. The Expendables 3 Trailer – Sylvester Stallone, Arnold Schwarzenegger & co. get explosive once more

June 17, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

expendables-3-bannerThe Expendables are returning for what may be their last adventure (although the female-led spin-off The Expendabelles is still in the works), but they want to go out with a bang, with what may be their best cast yet.

This time around there’s the likes of  Sylvester Stallone, Jason Statham, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Kellen Lutz, Ronda Roussey, Harrison Ford, Kelsey Grammer, Wesley Snipes, Antonio Banderas and Mel Gibson.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘In The Expendables 3, Barney (Sylvester Stallone), Christmas (Jason Statham) and the rest of the team come face-to-face with Conrad Stonebanks (Mel Gibson), who years ago co-founded The Expendables with Barney. Stonebanks subsequently became a ruthless arms trader and someone who Barney was forced to kill… or so he thought. Stonebanks, who eluded death once before, now is making it his mission to end The Expendables – but Barney has other plans. Barney decides that he has to fight old blood with new blood, and brings in a new era of Expendables team members, recruiting individuals who are younger, faster and more tech-savvy. The latest mission becomes a clash of classic old-school style versus high-tech expertise in the Expendables’ most personal battle yet.’

It’ll be in cinemas this summer. Take a look at the trailer below. [Read more…]

September 18, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

kelsey-grammerThe Expendables 3 is already shooting in Belgrade, Sofia, Bulgaria. Until shortly before filming was going to get underway, Nicolas Cage was rumoured to be in talks about a role. However after it became clear he wasn’t going to be part of the movie, we never heard who would replace him.

Now we know, as Deadline reports that Kelsey Grammer is close to a deal to take over Cage’s role.

Assuming he signs on the dotted line, Grammer will playan ex-mercenary named Bonaparte, who teams up with Barney Ross (Sylvester Stallone) and his highly-trained crew on their latest mission. He joins returning stars Jason Statham, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Dolph Lundgren, Randy Couture, Jet Li and Terry Crews, along with newcomers Jackie Chan, Wesley Snipes, Milla Jovovich, Kellan Lutz, Ronda Rousey, Harrison Ford and Mel Gibson.

Kelsey Grammer To Be Transformers 4’s Human Villain

May 2, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

kelsey-grammerIt seems that the Autobots won’t just be battling Decepticons in Transformers 4, as the movie has just cast its primary human villain in the form of Frasier himself, Kelsey Grammer, according to Variety.

The Boss actor will play counter-intelligence agent Harold Attinger, although no details are known about exactly what he’ll be doing in the movie, or how he’ll be causing the sort of trouble that Optimus Prime and co. need to sort out.

He joins a cast that includes Mark Wahlberg, Nicola Peltz, Jack Reynor, and Stanley Tucci.

Michael Bay is directing from a screenplay by Ehren Kruger, with shooting scheduled to begin this June. A release date of June 27th, 2014 has already been set.

Kyra Sedgwick & Kelsey Grammer Will Reach Me

November 16, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

John Herzfeld (2 Days In The Valley, 15 Minutes) has certainly pulled together a great cast for Reach Me, with the production company behind the film announcing that Kyra Sedgwick, Kelsey Grammer, and Terry Crews are amongst new additions to an ensemble that also includes Tom Berenger, Kevin Connolly, Thomas Jane, Sylvester Stallone, Nelly, Danny Aiello, David O’Hara, Omari Hardwick, Lauren Cohan, Elizabeth Henstridge, Cary Elwes, and Ryan Kwanten.

Reach Me is described as an uplifting ensemble comedy/drama about a dozen fractured characters whose lives intertwine and eventually collide as a result of a self-published motivational book and its anonymous author. The movie is already shooting, and has been for the last couple of weeks.

Herzfeld commented, “Reach Me has been my passion project for 12 years – everything I have to say as a filmmaker and a man is packed in this story of redemption and hope, and I am lucky and thrilled to be working with a phenomenally talented cast that are realizing my dream.”

Damn, I hope it’s good or that man is going to be crushed.

Dorothy Of Oz Trailer – The Emerald City gets animated

September 5, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

While numerous OZ films have been announced over the last few years, most have fallen by the wayside or are still in development, but two are coming fairly soon – Disney’s live-action Oz The Great And Powerful, and the animated Dorothy Of Oz. Now the trailer for the latter is here. The plot begins as Dorothy returns to Kansas to find it devastated by the tornado that sent her to Oz. Before she can react to the destruction of her home, she is transported back to Oz, where her three friends (Scarecrow, Lion and Tin Man) have disappeared. She meets a charming man made of marshmallows who can’t quite think for himself, a tiny china doll princess whose bossiness is a cover for her fragility, and a tugboat with as many personalities as he has pieces. Dorothy must help this group band together against the Jester, a wicked new villain who believes that all of Oz should be under his control. The movie features the voices of Lea Michele, Martin Short, Dan Aykroyd, Kelsey Grammer and Patrick Stewart.
