Transformers: Age Of Extinction (Blu-ray Review)

November 17, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Starring: Mark Wahlberg, Nicola Peltz, Jack Reynor, Stanley Tucci, Kelsey Grammer
Director: Michael Bay
Running Time: 165 mins
Certificate: 12
Release Date: November 17th 2014 (UK)

Reviewing Transformers: Age Of Extinction seems slightly pointless. It has an abysmal 18% rating on RottenTomatoes, with only 32 out of 178 that collated reviews saying it’s a decent movie. Despite that it’s currently the highest grossing movie of 2014 worldwide with over $1 billion in the bank (largely thanks to a gargantuan gross in China). So whether anyone says it’s good or bad seems a little irrelevant.

But just for the record, it’s not a good movie. [Read more…]

New Supercut Reveals Transformers Director Michael Bay’s Obsession With Cheap & Nasty Gay Jokes

July 5, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

michael-bay-age-of-extinction-setThere has been a lot of comment about how Michael Bay films the few female characters allowed into his movies in a way that makes even the least socially aware person suddenly realise what the term ‘objectification of women’ means.

What isn’t mentioned quite as often is that there’s also at least one moment in any Bay movies where gay people will start cringing due to a joke where ‘homos’ are the punchlines, and which like the way he treats women, reveals a very old-fashioned attitude to what it means to be a ‘man’ and what masculinity is. Yet there’s still a fascination with, probably due to the fact he loves bromances, even if Bay is now the king of ‘no homo’.

To show just how Bay’s attitude to gay people works (and with Transformers: Age Of Extinction opening), Gawker has come up with a rather fascinating supercut of gay jokes from a variety of the director’s movies, which shows just how cheap, casual and rather unpleasant his film’s attitude towards homosexuality is, whether it’s the world’s most stereotypically gay stylist in The Rock (which really does come across like a gay minstrel show), or Mark Wahlberg making sure there are ‘no homos’ amongst a group of kids in Pain & Gain.

Take a look below. [Read more…]

John Goodman & Ken Watanabe Join The Transformers 4 Voice Cast

May 9, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

john-goodmanIt’s not often you can add new cast members to a film just a couple of months before it opens, but it’s just been revealed that director Michael Bay has tapped John Goodman and Ken Watanabe to voice two of the new Autobots in Transformers: Age Of Extinction.

Goodman and Watanabe join legendary voice actors Peter Cullen and Frank Welker. Goodman will play Autobot Hound, Watanabe will play Drift, while Cullen reprises his role as the voice of Optimus Prime, and Welker (who’s voiced numerous characters in the earlier movies) takes on another new character, Galvatron.

“I am pleased to welcome two gifted and versatile actors, John Goodman and Ken Watanabe, to the world of Transformers,” said Bay. “And to reteam with Peter and Frank, who have brought Transformers characters alive from the beginning. I’ve been fortunate to work with some of the best voice talent in the business, and together we will introduce several exciting new robots to fans of the franchise around the world.”

Rounding out the voice-over cast are actors John DiMaggio, Mark Ryan, Robert Foxworth and Reno Wilson. DiMaggio and Ryan will take on the new characters Crosshairs and Lockdown, while Foxworth reprises the role of Ratchet and Wilson returns as Brains.

The all new human cast includes Mark Wahlberg, Stanley Tucci, Li Bingbing , Kelsey Grammer, Sophia Myles, T. J. Miller, Nicola Peltz, Jack Reynor and Titus Welliver.

Mark Wahlberg Is In A Panic In A New Transformers: Age Of Extinction Poster

March 30, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

transformers-4-poster6It seems Michael Bay has decided the bots in his previous Transformers films simply weren’t big enough, as both the recent trailer and this new poster have tried to sell us on some truly huge machines.

It certainly seems to be causing a few problems for Mark Wahlberg.

With a complete change of human cast, Mark Wahlberg will play Cade, the father of Nicol Peltz’s Tessa. Jack Reynor meanwhile is Tessa’s boyfriend, Shane. Stanley Tucci, Kelsey Grammer, Sophia Myles and Bingbing Li also star, with Michael Bay once more directing.

The movie will be out in cinemas in late June in the US and early July in the UK.

March 12, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

transformers-4-poster5
As you’d expect for such a massive movie, Transformers: Age Of Extinction is getting an IMAX release, and to make sure everyone knows, a poster for the IMAX version has been released. As you’d expect it’s showing just how big it’s going to be, with robots so massive they can’t even fit in the frame.

As you probably know by now, there’s a complete change of the human cast. Mark Wahlberg will play Cade, the father of Nicol Peltz’s Tessa. Jack Reynor meanwhile is Tessa’s boyfriend, Shane. Stanley Tucci, Kelsey Grammer, Sophia Myles and Bingbing Li also star, with Michae Bay once more directing.

The movie will be out in cinemas in late June in the US and early July in the UK.

Transformers: Age of Extinction Trailer – The rules have changed for Mark Wahlberg & Jack Reynor

March 5, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

After lots of posters and promises, the trailer for Transformers: Age Of Extinction is here. All the posters said that ‘The rules have changed’, but from the look of it the rules of Michael Bay moviemaking haven’t, with women there to look pretty and lots of things exploding.

There are some pretty cool shots, including looks at the dinobots which will show up in the film.

In the movie, Mark Wahlberg will play Cade, the father of Nicol Peltz’s Tessa. Jack Reynor & Nicola Peltz Get Transformers: Age Of Extinction Posters

March 4, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

transformers-4-poster3
Yesterday we featured a Transformers: Age Of Extinction poster featuring Mark Wahlberg, well now his very hot co-stars Jack Reynor and Nicola Peltz have gotten ones of their own. And it’s all in preparation for the trailer, which is due imminently.

There’s still not much info on the plot, but it appears Mark Wahlberg will play Cade, the father of Peltz’s Tessa. Reynor meanwhile is Tessa’s boyfriend, Shane. However it’s not 100% clear how they’ll get involved with the giant robots, or the dinobots that will make an appearance in this instalment in the franchise.

Stanley Tucci, Kelsey Grammer, Sophia Myles and Bingbing Li also star, with Michae Bay once more directing. The movie will be out in cinemas in late June in the US and early July in the UK.

Transformers: Age Of Extinction Super Bowl Spot – First look at the movie including the dinobots

February 3, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

There may be a new human cast for Transformers: Age Of Exctinction, but as this first look spot for the movie shows, the robots are back and as big as ever. It certainly looks as big and manic as the previous films, even if Mark Wahlberg, Nicola Peltz and Jack Reynor are replacing Shia LeBeouf and co.

The spot also gives use our first proper look at the dinobots, which will be making their movie debut in the film.

It’s due out in July and as Michael Bay is back in the director’s chair, expect it to be big, brash and explosive. [Read more…]

New Transformers: Age of Extinction Pics Emerge Showing Off Jack Reynor & Mark Wahlberg

November 29, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Transformers-4-pic4
Michael Bay is hoping that despite a complete reboot of the human cast, audiences will still show up for Transformers: Age Of Extinction when it’s released next summer. Now seven new images have been released, showing off some of those humans, including Mark Wahlberg, Nicola Peltz and Jack Reynor (who as the pic above proves, is very pretty).

The film fits into Hollywood’s increasing love affair with China (which has nothing to do with the fact it’s now the second largest market in the world for movies, we’re sure), as it will see the Americans helping the Autobots defend China from a Decepticon attack. However full plot details haven’t been released yet.

Transformers: Age Of Extinction is out June 27th, 2014. [Read more…]
