New Halloween Trailer – Michael Myers is back terrifying Jamie Lee Curtis

September 5, 2018 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Every so often Jamie Lee Curtis is convinced to return to the Halloween franchise – with mixed results. However, this time there’s a fair amount of interest in the new instalment, not just because of Curtis but because series creator John Carpenter is serving as a creative consultant and David Gordon Green (Pineapple Express, All The Real Girls, Stronger) is directing. He also co-wrote the script alongside Danny McBride.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Jamie Lee Curtis returns to her iconic role as Laurie Strode, who comes to her final confrontation with Michael Myers, the masked figure who has haunted her since she narrowly escaped his killing spree on Halloween night four decades ago.

Master of horror John Carpenter will executive produce and serve as creative consultant on this film, joining forces with cinema’s current leading producer of horror, Jason Blum (Get Out, Split, The Purge, Paranormal Activity).  Inspired by Carpenter’s classic, filmmakers David Gordon Green and Danny McBride crafted a story that carves a new path from the events in the landmark 1978 film, and Green also directs.’

The movie is due in cinemas on October 12th. Take a look at the new trailer below. [Read more…]

Tatiana Maslany Joins Jake Gyllenhaal In Boston Marathon Bombing Movie, Stronger

October 8, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

tatiana-maslanyShortly after the Boston Marathon bombing there was an unsurprising but rather unsightly scramble to start developing movies about the events. Thankfully things slowed down after that initial rush, but now one is moving forward, Stronger, which Jake Gyllenhaal is set to star in.

Now Orphan Black star Tatiana Maslany is in talks to join him, according to TheWrap.

Gyllenhaal is set to play  Jeff Bauman, who survived the bombing but lost both legs. Bauman had a central role in the event, as film will ‘detail the aftermath of the 2013 attack at the marathon finish line, where Bauman had been cheering for his girlfriend [to be played by Maslany]. A photo of Bauman moments after the blast remains one of the best-known images from the tragedy, which killed three and injured more than 260. When Bauman awoke the next day after surgeries and realized he could not speak, he asked for a pad and paper and wrote: “Saw the guy. Looked right at me.” That set off a massive manhunt for Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, who was convicted of the murders in April.’

David Gordon Green is set to direct the movie, with John Pollono writing the script, based on a book by Bauman and Bret Witter.

Our Brand Is Crisis Trailer – Sandra Bullock dips in to political satire

September 8, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

our-brand-is-crisis-slideSandra Bullock returns with Our Brand Is Crisis, where she teams up with director David Gordon Green for a spot of political satire, based on a documentary about the 2002 Bolivian presidential elections. The trailer certainly suggests democracy isn’t always the straight-forward and fair system we’d like to think it is.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘A Bolivian presidential candidate failing badly in the polls enlists the firepower of an elite American management team, led by the deeply damaged but still brilliant strategist “Calamity” Jane Bodine (Bullock). In self-imposed retirement following a scandal that earned her nickname and rocked her to her core, Jane is coaxed back into the game for the chance to beat her professional nemesis, the loathsome Pat Candy (Billy Bob Thornton), now coaching the opposition.

‘But as Candy zeroes in on every vulnerability – both on and off the campaign trail – Jane is plunged into a personal crisis as intense as the one her team exploits nationally to boost their numbers. Dramatic, rapid-fire and laced with satire, “Our Brand is Crisis” reveals the cynical machinations and private battles of world-class political consultants for whom nothing is sacred and winning is all that matters.’

The film is due out later this year. [Read more…]

Jake Gyllenhaal Circling Stronger, About Boston Marathon Bombing Survivor

July 29, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Jake-GyllenhaalShortly after the Boston Marathon Bombing various people announced they were planning movies based around the tragedy. However, so far none has made it to the screen. One of the movies still working its way through pre-production and may have found a new star, as Variety reports Jake Gyllenhaal is circling the movie.

If he signs on he’d play Jeff Bauman, who survived the bombing but lost both legs. Jake’s not the only actor in contention but it appears he’s the favourite to land the part, undoubtedly helped by his excellent performance in another underdog tale, Southpaw.

Bauman had a central role in the story, as film will ‘detail the aftermath of the 2013 attack at the marathon finish line, where Bauman had been cheering for his girlfriend.

Manglehorn Trailer – Al Pacino finds new life in older age with Holly Hunter

May 17, 2015 By Tim Isaac 1 Comment

manglehorn-slideIn the last few years it’s felt Al Pacino has been on autopilot, taking on any old movie that will stump up his paycheque and then coasting through the movie while putting in relatively little effort. However it seems he might be showing a bit more spark in 2015 with Danny Collins and Manglehorn.

The trailer for the latter has now arrived, which you can watch below.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘A.J. Manglehorn (Pacino) is a reclusive Texas key-maker who spends his days caring for his cat, finding comfort in his work and lamenting a long-lost love. Enter kindhearted bank teller Dawn (Holly Hunter), whose interest in the eccentric Manglehorn may just be able to draw him out of his shell. Chris Messina costars in this remarkably rich and humorous tale of second chances.’

David Gordon Green directs the film, which should be out later this year. [Read more…]

Joe (DVD Review)

October 6, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Starring: Nicolas Cage, Tye Sheridan, Gary Poulter
Director: David Gordon Green
Running Time: 114 mins
Certificate: 15
Release Date: October 6th 2014 (DVD)

Nicolas Cage may be an Oscar-winning actor, but in recent years he’s largely become synonymous with an endless string of not particularly great movies where he gives one of his interchangeable extreme wild-man performances, where restraint is regarded as an alien concept.

Joe gives us something a little different, with Cage playing title character Joe Ransom, a character who spends much of the movie trying to keep a lid on the fiery, violent temper that lies underneath. It was an extremely smart move to cast the actor, as you can genuinely feel Cage pulling in the tics and extreme tendencies he has shown in endless movies in the last few years. [Read more…]

David Gordon Green Directing Our Brand Is Crisis With Sandra Bullock Set To Star

August 22, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

David-Gordon-GreenBack in December it was reported that Sandra Bullock was in talks for the George Clooney produced movie Our Brand Is Crisis. Now she’s officially committed to it and the film has a director, David Gordon Green, according to Variety.

Bullock apparently couldn’t fully decide whether to star, but was convinced after meeting Pineapple Express and All The Real Girls director David Gordon Green, based on the strength of his vision.

The political comedy is based on Rachel Boynton’s 2005 documentary, which focused on the use of American political campaign strategies in Bolivia by President Clinton’s former consultants James Carville and Stan Greenberg.

Peter Straughan wrote the screenplay, although it’s not clear when it will shoot.
