New Need For Speed Trailer – Revving things up with Aaron Paul

November 18, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

When DreamWorks announced they were making a movie version of the videogame Need For Speed, it sounded like they were trying to cash in on the Fast & Furious audience, and that certainly seems to be true from the evidence of this first trailer. That doesn’t mean it won’t be worth a look though!

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Fresh from prison, framed for a crime he didn’t commit, street racer Tobey Marshall (Breaking Bad’s Aaron Paul), is hell bent on settling the score.

‘With revenge at the forefront of his mind, he gears up for the ultimate cross-country race heaving with adrenaline-charged muscle machines and high-octane super cars. When his powerful rival (Dominic Cooper – The Devil’s Double) places a massive bounty on his head, the wheels are set in motion and the race is finally on.

‘Based on the most successful racing game franchise of all time, bursting with explosive action and exhilarating stunts, NEED FOR SPEED accelerates into UK cinemas on MARCH 14, 2014 by Entertainment One.’ [Read more…]

September 13, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

You might expect that the first pics from a motor-head movie like Need For Speed would show off the cars, but instead EW have debuts images giving us a look at Aaron Paul, Kid Cudi, Dominic Cooper and Dakota Johnson in the movie.

Based on the videogame series, Aaron Paul stars as an underground race car driver who owns a shop that modifies sports cars for racing. He is framed for the murder of his best friend, who died during a race, and upon his release from prison he seeks revenge. Dominic Cooper plays a former NASCAR driver who now owns a high-end shop that rebuilds race cars, while Imogen Poots is an exotic car dealer who works with both Aaron Paul and Dominic Cooper’s characters. Scott Waugh directs with a February 2014 release set.

Aaron Paul says, ”This set was different than anything I’ve been on. You’re walking through a very thick cloud of testosterone. It’s really a throwback to the Steve McQueen era of car movies. I think people are going to be pleasantly surprised.”

On the characters, he adds, ”Dominic is kind of the antagonist of the film. Dakota is my character’s ex, and now Dominic ‘s character is the new guy she’s seeing.”

Aaron Paul, Sigourney Weaver & John Turturro Up For Ridley Scott’s Exodus

Alien helped launch the careers of both Sigourney Weaver and Ridley Scott back in 1979. Now they’re planning to get back together again for a very different movie, Exodus. She’s not the only one either, as Breaking Bad’s Aaron Paul and John Turturro is also set to star alongside the previously cast Christian Bale and Joel Edgerton, according to Variety.

The story follows Moses (Christian Bale) who goes up against the Pharaoh Ramses (Edgerton) so that he can lead the Israelites out of Egypt and into the Promised Land. As Moses grew up in the royal Egyptian court, he had a close relationship to Egyptian ruler Ramses, which goes sour when he takes up the cause of his people.

Weaver will play Tuya, the mother of Ramses, while Turturro will be Ramses father. Paul meanwhile is set to play a Hebrew slave called Joshua who ends up leading the Israelites to the promised land after Moses discovers he can’t go himself.

Steven Zaillian (The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, Schindler’s List) wrote the script, with the movie set to start shooting in September in England, Spain and Morocco.

First Look At Need For Speed In A New Featurette

June 11, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

With Fast and Furious such a huge moneyspinner, it not too surprising that DreamWorks is wondering if it can have its own car-based franchised with Need For Speed. Now we get our first look at the movie courtesy of an on-the-set featurette, which unsurprisingly focuses on the automotive action.

Crush Of The Day: Aaron Paul

December 11, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

I have a feeling we’re going to be hearing a lot more about Aaron Paul in the next few years, not least because he recently scored the lead role in Dreamworks big budget Need For Speed movie. However he already has a lot of fans thanks to TV’s Breaking Bad (for which he’s won two Emmys) and will be seen in UK cinemas on Friday in Smashed, alongside Mary Elizabeth Winstead.

The Idaho born 33-year-old has been popping up in things for several years though, including Whatever It Take, K-Pax, Van Wilder: Party Liaison, Mission: Impossible III and The Last House On The Left, along with guest appearances in pretty much ever TV show from Beverly Hills 90210 to CSI, and 14 episodes of Big Love.

He was also once a contestant on The Price Is Right, as Jimmy Kimmel recently reminded him. You can take a look at that, along with Aaron’s reaction, below. And make sure you click on the sexy pics to enlarge them for plenty more Aaron Paul hotness. [Read more…]

Dominic Cooper Feels A Need for Speed Opposite Aaron Paul & Imogen Poots

November 7, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Dominic Cooper has quite a good thing going as a supporting character in big summer movies, as he’s popped up in the likes of Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter and Captain America: The First Avenger, and now Variety reports he’s in talks for director Scott Waugh’s videogame adaptation Need for Speed.

The movie is about an underground race car driver (Aaron Paul) who owns a shop that modifies sports cars for racing. He is framed for the murder of his best friend, who died during a race, and upon his release from prison he seeks revenge. Dominic Cooper will play a former NASCAR driver who now owns a high-end shop that rebuilds race cars.

Imogen Poots is in also in talks to play the female lead. When news of her involvement was first revealed, there were no character details, but it’s now been revealed that she will play an exotic car dealer who works with both Aaron Paul and Dominic Cooper’s characters.

It isn’t known when production will begin, but Need for Speed is due to hit cinemas February 7th, 2014.

Imogen Poots Up For Female Lead In Need for Speed

November 1, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

DreamWorks really wants some strong franchises and it’s hoping that it can get that with the videogame adaptation Need For Speed, which it hopes will be its Fast & Furious. A few weeks ago it was revealed that Breaking Bad’s Aaron Paul has been chosen to portray the male lead, and now THR reports that Fright Night star Imogen Poots is in talks to portray the female lead.

John Gatins (Real Steel) and George Gatins developed the original story, with Gatins handling the actual script. No concrete story details have been released, although the video game adaptation is said to be a throwback to car-centred movies of the 1970s. The plot will not be based on any specific game from the Electronic Arts franchise. We don’t know any specific details about either Paul or Poots’ characters either, unfortunately.

Scott Waugh (Act of Valor) is directing, although it isn’t known when shooting will begin. It won’t be too long though, as a US release date of February 7th, 2014 has already been set.

Breaking Bad’s Aaron Paul Has A Need for Speed

October 16, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

It’s been revealed that Emmy-winning Breaking Bad star Aaron Paul has signed on to take the lead role in DreamWorks’ planned videogame-to-movie adaptation, Need for Speed. Back in July Taylor Kitsch was offered the role, although a deal never materialised and now Aaron’s got the role.

The project will be adapted from the Electronic Arts video games, although it won’t be based on one specific game in particular. Dreamworks hopes to launch a franchise similar to The Fast and the Furious series, but with built-in brand name recognition from the games. Not much is knwon about Paul’s character, although presumably he’ll be a driver of some sorts.

Scott Waugh (Act of Valor) is directing from a screenplay by John Gatins (Real Steel) and George Gatins. It isn’t known when it might shoot. (Source: EW)
