Vice Trailer – Christian Bale transforms into former Vice President Dick Cheney

October 7, 2018 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

For a long time Adam McKay was just about comedy,  making movies with Will Ferrell such as Anchorman, Talladega Nights, Step Brothers and The Other Guys. However, recently he’s been stretching his wings with the likes of The Big Short (for which he received two Oscar nominations) and now Vice.

The movie features another of Christian Bale’s trademark transformations, so he can play Vice President Dick Cheney. He stars alongside Amy Adams, Steve Carell and Sam Rockwell.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘VICE explores the epic story about how a bureaucratic Washington insider quietly became the most powerful man in the world as Vice-President to George W. Bush, reshaping the country and the globe in ways that we still feel today.’ Take a look at the trailer below. [Read more…]

Christian Bale, Steve Carell & Amy Adams In Talks For Adam McKay’s Dick Cheney Movie

April 8, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Adam McKay is best known for directing Will Ferrell in films like Stepbrothers, Anchorman and The Other Guys. However, as he showed with The Big Short (for which he won a writing Oscar), he also has more serious interests. That’s resulted in him working on a movie about the former US Vice President (under George W. Bush), Dick Cheney.

Now that film is casting, with THR reporting that Christian Bale, Steve Carell and Amy Adams are all in early talks to star in the movie. If it all comes together, Bale would play ‘Cheney, who was an ardent supporter of strong anti-terrorist actions and a key supporter of the Iraq War. Cheney also is the former CEO of the multinational corporation Halliburton. Carell is circling the role of Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld. Adams would play Cheney’s wife, Lynne Cheney.’

There’s little further info on the movie, such as whether it will cover much of Cheney’s life, or solely cover a particular period in his life. He’s an intriguing figure, seen by some as the real President during George W. Bush’s tenure, by some as a war criminal, and by others as a rather inept person (mostly due to an incident where he accidentally shot a friend in the face during a hunting trip). It’s now clear when the biopic might start shooting.

Arrival (Blu-ray Review) – Worthy of its eight Oscar nominations?

March 21, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Starring: Amy Adams, Forest Whitaker, Jeremy Renner, Mark O'Brien, Michael Stuhlbarg
Director: Denis Villeneuve
Running Time: 116 mins
Certificate: 12
Release Date: March 20th 2017 (UK)

It’s very rare for a sci-fi film to get Oscar nominations outside of the technical categories, so it’s truly exceptional that Arrival scored eight of them, including Best Picture, Best Director, Best Screenplay and Best Actress. It may have won just one Academy Award – Best Achievement in Sound Editing – but it’s still highly unusual.

In the movie, the world is shocked when 12 mysterious ovoid spaceships arrive at various points around the planet, hanging in the sky. One of them is over American soil, so the government decides it needs to know what’s going on. Inside the ship are two aliens – which look like a cross between trees and octopuses – but there’s no way to communicate with them. [Read more…]

Nocturnal Animals Trailer – Amy Adams & Jake Gyllenhaal star in Tom Ford’s film

September 18, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

amy-adams-nocturnal-animalsTom Ford’s movie Nocturnal Animals has been getting good reviews at film festivals, and it won’t be too long until we’ll get to see the movie for ourselves. To whet our appetites, a teaser trailer has arrived.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘From writer/director Tom Ford comes a haunting romantic thriller of shocking intimacy and gripping tension that explores the thin lines between love and cruelty, and revenge and redemption. Academy Award nominees Amy Adams and Jake Gyllenhaal star as a divorced couple discovering dark truths about each other and themselves in “Nocturnal Animals.”

‘Susan Morrow, a Los Angeles art dealer (portrayed by Ms. Adams), lives an incredibly privileged yet unfulfilled life with her husband Hutton Morrow (Armie Hammer). One weekend, as Hutton departs on one of his too-frequent business trips, Susan receives an unsolicited package that has been left in her mailbox. It is a novel, Nocturnal Animals, written by her ex-husband Edward Sheffield (Mr. Gyllenhaal), with whom she has had no contact for years. Edward’s note accompanying the manuscript encourages Susan to read the work and then to contact him during his visit to the city. Alone at night, in bed, Susan begins reading. The novel is dedicated to her…

…but its content is violent and devastating. While Susan reads, she is deeply moved by Edward’s writing and cannot help but reminisce over the most private moments from her own love story with the author. Trying to look within herself and beyond the glossy surface of the life and career that she has made, Susan increasingly interprets the book as a tale of revenge, a tale that forces her to re-evaluate the choices that she has made, and re-awakens a love that she feared was lost – as the story builds to a reckoning that will define both the novel’s hero and her own.’ [Read more…]

Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice – Ultimate Edition (Blu-ray Review)

August 1, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Starring: Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill, Gal Gadot, Jesse Eisenberg, Amy Adams
Director: Zack Snyder
Running Time: 182 mins
Certificate: 15
Release Date: August 1st 2016 (UK)

As they say, ‘The higher you climb, the further there is to fall’. That’s a fair description of Batman v Superman, a film that you certainly can’t fault for its ambition, but which can’t reach the heights it strives for despite its best efforts. After an exceedingly mixed reaction at cinemas, the film comes to Blu-ray in an Ultimate Edition form, which adds in an extra 30 minutes of footage and adds back in some of the violence that US censors wouldn’t permit to get it a PG-13 certificate.

Some hoped this new version would rectify all the flaws of the theatrical cut. It doesn’t do that, but it does help a little, particularly with some of the subplots where the theatrical version had bits of them, but where they either petered out or didn’t make a whole lot of sense. It does add a couple of extra problems though. [Read more…]
