Two New Terrence Malick Flicks Announced

November 2, 2011 By Movie Muser Leave a Comment

A few weeks ago some images popped up online of Terrence Malick (The Tree Of Life) shooting a film with Christian Bale at the Austin City Limits festival. It was a bit of a surprise as nobody knew anything about the movie, and Bale was supposed to be shooting Dark Knight Rises at the time.

Now it’s been revealed what they were up to, well, sort of. While Malick is renowned for his slow pace of work – five films in 38 years – he’s speeding up massively as Variety says he’s planning to make two movies, both starring Bale and Cate Blanchett (that’s in addition to The Burial, which features Ben Affleck, Rachel McAdams, Javier Bardem and Rachel Weisz, which he’s already shot).

The film that was partially filmed at the festival will be called Lawless and has a great cast besides Bale and Blanchett, with Ryan Gosling in the lead role, alongside Rooney Mara and Haley Bennett. The other movie is titled Knight Of Cup, and will also feature Isabel Lucas.

That’s all the info we’ve got unfortunately, which leaves a lot of questions open. There’s no news on the plots, but the most intriguing possibility is that the movies will be linked together. The films will shoot back-to-back next year, and it would seem more than possible therefore that Bale and Blanchett will be playing the same characters in both movies. Whether that true is yet to be revealed.

Malick loves dripping everything in secrecy, and the only reason we know this much is because the company behind the films is looking for sales at the American Film Market. So while it’s all incredibly intriguing, don’t expect everything to become clear for a while yet.
