Fist Fight Red Band Trailer – Charlie Day and Ice Cube are gonna go toe-to-toe

February 2, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Synopsis: ‘Ice Cube (“Barbershop: The Next Cut,” the “Ride Along” movies) and Charlie Day (“Horrible Bosses,” “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia”) star as high school teachers prepared to solve their differences the hard way in the comedy “Fist Fight,” directed by Richie Keen (“It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia”).

‘On the last day of the school year, mild-mannered high school English teacher Andy Campbell (Day) is trying his best to keep it together amidst outrageous senior pranks, a dysfunctional administration and budget cuts that are putting his job on the line just as his wife is expecting their second baby.

‘But things go from bad to worse when Campbell crosses the school’s toughest and most feared teacher, Ron Strickland (Ice Cube), causing Strickland to be fired. To Campbell’s shock—not to mention utter terror—Strickland responds by challenging him to a fist fight after school. News of the fight spreads like wildfire as Campbell takes ever more desperate measures to avoid getting the crap beaten out of him. But if he actually shows up and throws down, it may end up being the very thing this school, and Andy Campbell, needed.

‘“Fist Fight” also stars Tracy Morgan (“30 Rock”), Jillian Bell (“22 Jump Street”), Dean Norris (“Breaking Bad”), Christina Hendricks (“Mad Men”), Dennis Haysbert (“The Unit”), JoAnna Garcia Swisher (“The Astronaut Wives Club”) and Kumail Nanjiani (“Silicon Valley”). The cast also includes an ensemble of young actors, including twins Charlie Carver and Max Carver (“Desperate Housewives,” “Teen Wolf”), Austin Zajur in his major feature film debut, and Alexa Nisenson (“Middle School: The Worst Years of My Life”).’

The movie will be in UK cinemas on March 3rd. [Read more…]

The Book Of Life (Blu-ray Review)

February 15, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Starring: Diego Luna, Zoe Saldana, Channing Tatum, Ron Perlman, Ice Cube
Director: Jorge R. Gutierrez
Running Time: 91 mins
Certificate: U
Release Date: February 16th 2015

Comparing The Book Of Life to Fifty Shades Of Grey may seem od, but there is one thing that brings them together – in my head at least. If Fifty Shades had been written by a man, I can’t help but feel it would have been thought of as horrifically sexist, and with The Book Of Life, I couldn’t help but wonder if some would have accused it of racism if it hadn’t been directed and co-written by people from Mexico.

I’m not necessarily criticising the film, but the movie doesn’t have many qualms about delving into Mexican stereotypes. However the fact is that behind the scenes it had a massive Mexican influence, not just from director Jorge R. Gutiérrez and co-writer/producer Guillermo Del Toro, but also many of the crew, who may infuse the movie with sombreros and bullfighting, but they do so with snarking or belittling, instead attempting to pay tribute to the rich culture. Ride Along Teaser – Ice Cube doesn’t want Kevin Hart hanging around

July 2, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Ice Cube doesn’t seem to like Kevin Hart very much in Ride Along, and to be honest, on the evidence of this trailer, I can’t say I blame him – he’s pretty annoying.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Kevin Hart and Ice Cube lead the lineup in Ride Along, the new film from the director and the producer of the blockbuster comedy Think Like a Man. When a fast-talking guy joins his girlfriend’s brother—a hot-tempered cop—to patrol the streets of Atlanta, he gets entangled in the officer’s latest case.

‘Now, in order to prove that he deserves his future bride, he must survive the most insane 24 hours of his life.
For the past two years, high-school security guard Ben (Hart) has been trying to show decorated APD detective James (Cube) that he’s more than just a video-game junkie who’s unworthy of James’ sister, Angela (Tika Sumpter). When Ben finally gets accepted into the academy, he thinks he’s earned the seasoned policeman’s respect and asks for his blessing to marry Angela.

‘Knowing that a ride along will demonstrate if Ben has what it takes to take care of his sister, James invites him on a shift designed to scare the hell out of the trainee. But when the wild night leads them to the most notorious criminal in the city, James will find that his new partner’s rapid-fire mouth is just as dangerous as the bullets speeding at it.’

It’ll be out at the beginning of next year.

John Leguizamo Going On A Ride Along With Ice Cube

October 17, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

It’s rarely a bad idea to cast John Leguizamo in a film, something director Tim Story (Think Like a Man) seems to have realised, as Variety reports he’s busy signing the actor to join the cast of Ride Along.

The movie is about a hard-nosed cop (Ice Cube) who is extremely protective of his sister. When her new boyfriend (Kevin Hart) wants to marry her, he is taken on a police ride-along to prove himself to his future brother-in-law. John Leguizamo will play an undercover cop in the comedy.

Greg Coolidge wrote the screenplay, based on an earlier draft by Steve Faber and Bob Fisher (Wedding Crashers). It isn’t known when the movie will go into production.

Ice Cube Planning Another Friday

November 17, 2011 By Movie Muser Leave a Comment

It’s a decade since Ice Cube made a Friday movie, but it appears neither he nor New Line have given up on the franchise, as Deadline reports that they’re cooking up another one. This new film may also feature Chris Tucker, who got his acting break with the first Friday movie, but who wasn’t in the two sequels.

Tommy Lister, who played Deebo in Friday, had this to say about the planned sequel, “There’s a lot of conversation, that’s hopefully going down next week with Ice Cube and Chris Tucker about doing one more Friday. This is going to be the big one. We talked on the phone a couple of weeks ago, and I’m going on Chris’ private jet to do something in St. Louis, where I chase Chris on the stage.”

Ice Cube wrote the original Friday, along with DJ Pooh, but it isn’t known who is writing this untitled sequel. The franchise was very popular, and as Cube’s Hollywood career has somewhat stalled, it’s not that surprising he wants to return to it.
