New Billy Lynn’s Long Halftime Walk Teaser Trailer – Ang Lee does a military tale his own way

October 27, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

billy-lynns-long-halftime-walk-joe-alswynThere was a lot of anticipation for Billy Lynn’s Long Halftime Walk, partly because it’s Ang Lee’s first movie since the Oscar winning The Life Of Pi, and partly because he was planning something no one had done before – something made and projected in 3D at 120 frames per second (more than double The Hobbit’s 48fps). However, reviews from the New York Film Festival were middling, with some saying the high frame rate ruined the moviegoing experience.

The fact is though, the full 120fps will only be available in a handful of theatres (just two in the whole of the US), and the trailer does make it look very intriguing.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Three-time Academy Award® winner Ang Lee brings his extraordinary vision to Billy Lynn’s Long Halftime Walk, based on the widely-acclaimed, bestselling novel. The film is told from the point of view of 19-year-old private Billy Lynn (newcomer Joe Alwyn) who, along with his fellow soldiers in Bravo Squad, becomes a hero after a harrowing Iraq battle and is brought home temporarily for a victory tour. Through flashbacks, culminating at the spectacular halftime show of the Thanksgiving Day football game, the film reveals what really happened to the squad – contrasting the realities of the war with America’s perceptions. The film also stars Kristen Stewart, Chris Tucker, Garrett Hedlund, with Vin Diesel, and Steve Martin. Lee used new technology, shooting at an ultra-high frame rate for the first time in film history, to create an immersive digital experience helping him dramatize war in a way never seen before.’

It’ll be out in cinemas towards the end of the year. It’s in US cinemas on November 11th and the UK on January 6th. [Read more…]

Billy Lynn’s Long Halftime Walk Teaser Trailer – First look at Ang Lee’s take on the military tale

May 12, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

billy-lynn-pic1The reports from those who saw the first footage gushed that it looked like once again Life Of Pi helmer Ang Lee had produced an incredible looking movie. Now we get to take a look for ourselves with the first teaser trailer. It certainly does a great job of suggesting this could be one hell of a movie and real Oscar contender.

Silver Linings Playbook (Blu-ray)

April 2, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Starring: Jennifer Lawrence, Robert De Niro, Jacki Weaver, Chris Tucker, Bradley Cooper
Director: David O. Russell
Running Time: 122 mins
Certificate: 15
Release Date: April 1st 2013

It took many by surprise when Silver Linings Playbook picked up eight Oscar nominations, as while it got decent reviews, few thought it was a serious Academy Award contender. However, as the ceremony approached it picked up momentum to the point where many thought there was a decent possibility of it taking the Best Picture prize. In the end its only gong was a much deserved Bst Actress award for Jennifer Lawrence, but you can certainly see why it became a bit of a sleeper awards contender. [Read more…]

Tom Shadyac Eyes Untouchable Remake, With Colin Firth Circling

March 1, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

untouchable-slideLast year Untouchable (aka The Intouchables) became the highest grossing French movie in history, taking over $400 million around the world. It’s little wonder then that Hollywood is interested in a remake. Now Deadline reports that a perhaps surprising name is attached to direct, Tom Shadyac – best known for broad comedy hits Liar Liar, Bruce Almighty, The Nutty Professor and Ace Ventura.

Colin Firth is said to be circling a lead role, but nothing has been set in stone yet. Back in November, it was reported that Silver Linings Playbook star Chris Tucker had showed interest in the movie, but it’s not known if he’s still involved.

Paul Feig (Bridesmaids) is writing the screenplay, which follows an a very rich man who gets paralysed after a hang-gliding accident. He hires a young man with a criminal background to take care of him, forming a unique bond of friendship. The original film was one of the Best Foreign Language Film nominees at the Oscars last weekend.

Shadyac may actually be a better choice than his resume suggest, as he himself nearly died in a cycling accident. Afterwards he left the business altogether, dedicating his life to more altruistic endeavours. If he does end up making the film, it will be his first narrative feature since 2007’s Evan Almighty.

Ice Cube Planning Another Friday

November 17, 2011 By Movie Muser Leave a Comment

It’s a decade since Ice Cube made a Friday movie, but it appears neither he nor New Line have given up on the franchise, as Deadline reports that they’re cooking up another one. This new film may also feature Chris Tucker, who got his acting break with the first Friday movie, but who wasn’t in the two sequels.

Tommy Lister, who played Deebo in Friday, had this to say about the planned sequel, “There’s a lot of conversation, that’s hopefully going down next week with Ice Cube and Chris Tucker about doing one more Friday. This is going to be the big one. We talked on the phone a couple of weeks ago, and I’m going on Chris’ private jet to do something in St. Louis, where I chase Chris on the stage.”

Ice Cube wrote the original Friday, along with DJ Pooh, but it isn’t known who is writing this untitled sequel. The franchise was very popular, and as Cube’s Hollywood career has somewhat stalled, it’s not that surprising he wants to return to it.
