Avengers Assemble (Cinema)

April 26, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Starring: Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, Robert Downey Jr.
Director: Joss Whedon
Running Time: 143 mins
Certificate: 12A
Release Date: April 26th, 2012

After years of build up, it’s finally here. While fanboys have long worried The Avengers (or Avengers Assemble as Disney wants us to call it in the UK, apparently because Brits are incapable of telling the difference between a 1960s TV show and a 2012 superhero movie) couldn’t live up to the hype, Joss Whedon has delivered.

It’s an action packed, rip-roaring juggernaut of a film, which pulls off the impressive trick of perfectly balancing a large ensemble cast, so that it feels as if everyone is there for a reason and has their own character arc. [Read more…]

Angelina Jolie In Talks For The Counselor Supporting Role

April 11, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Whether it’s because she likes the role or just wants to work with Ridley Scott, Angelina Jolie is in talks for a small part in The Counselor, according to Vulture, joining Michael Fassbender, Jeremy Renner, and Natalie Portman (although the last two of those still have to sign on the dotted line).

It’s now known exactly what part Jolie is in talks for, but it believed to be a relatively brief role. The Counselor is the first original script by legendary author Cormac McCarthy and follows a lawyer (Fassbender) who is looking to get into the drug trade.

Ridley Scott hopes to have The Counselor in front of cameras by June, giving Angelina Jolie enough time to shoot her few scenes before headlining Maleficent for Walt Disney Pictures, which plans to shoot this year for release in 2014.

Jeremy Renner Says It’s None Of Your Business If He’s Gay Or Not!

April 5, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Jeremy Renner is now officially a star, because people are speculating over his sexuality! Everything from the fact he’s never married to taking his mum to the Oscars has been grist to the speculation mill. Now Renner has been chatting to The Hollywood Reporter and touches on the rumours surrounding his sexuality while saying the he works hard to keep his private life private.

“I want my personal life to be personal, and it’s not f—ing true,” he says of the suppositions, which include everything from him being gay to what women he’s dating. “And I don’t care if you’re talking about things that are true, you’re still talking about my personal life. How about I go peek in your window, take what underwear you wore last night, whose husband you were f—ing, and shove that in the megaphone throughout your neighborhood? How does that feel?”

And while he may never have married, he has had long relationships with women, including one five-year relationship while he was in his 20s and another that ended two years ago after 4 1⁄2 years.

It also turns out it’s a bad idea to diss his scarf or call him a ‘fag’ (we’re not sure which one he was more upset about), as he say that a few years ago in a bar, “This guy chokes me with the scarf I was wearing. He called me a fag ’cause I was wearing a scarf! Then he shoved my sister and I got behind him and I choked him out — put him to sleep.”

Renner’s star is likely to go stratospheric this summer with The Avengers and The Bourne Ultimatum. 2012 really is gonna be his year.

First Avengers Assemble Clip Sees Black Widow Kick Some Ass

April 4, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Although Scarlett Johansson’s Black Widow was introduced in Iron Man 2, she didn’t have an awful lot to do in the movie. However she’s back in The Avengers, and along with Jeremy Renner’s Hawkeye, is the major character we’ve see least of. It’s not surprising therefore that the first official clip form the film is dedicated to her, showing they she can kick ass with the best of them and that this won’t just be a testosterone fest (assuming Asgardgian gods like Thor have testosterone, of course). Here Black Widow/Natasha Romanova being called into action by S.H.I.E.L.D.’s Agent Coulson. The film hits UK cinemas on April 26th, when Black Widow will be joined by Iron Man, The Incredible Hulk, Thor, Captain America, Hawkeye and Black Widow.

Avengers Gets A New Name And A New Poster To Prove It

February 28, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Marvel’s The Avengers is no more, in the UK at least, as with less than two months before its release, the movie has a new title. So what’s it going to be called? Well, distributor Disney has revealed it’ll be known as Marvel Avengers Assemble in Britain, and they’ve released the poster above to prove it.

An Avengers assemble trailer is promised tomorrow afternoon, which will hopefully be packed with cool footage. The new title seems to have been adopted because casual moviegoers were wondering if it was another remake of 1960s Avengers TV show.

Just one question though, why in the poster is Chris Evans about 25ft tall?

Here’s the amended official synopsis: ‘Marvel Studios presents “Marvel Avengers Assemble”—the Super Hero team up of a lifetime, featuring iconic Marvel Super Heroes Iron Man, The Incredible Hulk, Thor, Captain America, Hawkeye and Black Widow. When an unexpected enemy emerges that threatens global safety and security, Nick Fury, Director of the international peacekeeping agency known as S.H.I.E.L.D., finds himself in need of a team to pull the world back from the brink of disaster. The Bourne Legacy Trailer

February 8, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Matt Damon may be gone, but the Bourne franchise lives on with Jeremy Renner taking over as a new agent who came out of the same program as Jason Bourne. Now the first trailer for the movie has arrived, and to be honest it doesn’t reveal a huge amount about the movie, except that Edward Norton’s going to try and brainwash Jeremy Renner, and that ‘Jason Bourne was just the tip of the iceberg’. It certainly looks explosive though! the film’s due out August 17th. The new poster if below.

Five New Pics From The Avengers Released

January 28, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Five new images from the Avengers have surface via Marvel.com, which if nothing else shows that while the scarring on Nick Fury’s face has been rather underplayed when we’ve seen it before, but it appears it’s going to be much more prominent in The Avenger. Indeed, the spider-webbing scars in the pic above have already led some to wonder if they’re going to play a role in the movie somehow.

In case you’ve been living under a rock and don’t know what The Avengers is about, here’s the synopsis: ‘Marvel Studios presents in association with Paramount Pictures “Marvel’s The Avengers”–the super hero team up of a lifetime, featuring iconic Marvel super heroes Iron Man, the Incredible Hulk, Thor, Captain America, Hawkeye and Black Widow. When an unexpected enemy emerges that threatens global safety and security, Nick Fury, Director of the international peacekeeping agency known as S.H.I.E.L.D., finds himself in need of a team to pull the world back from the brink of disaster. Spanning the globe, a daring recruitment effort begins.

Jackson, and directed by Joss Whedon from a screenplay by Joss Whedon, “Marvel’s The Avengers” is based on the ever-popular Marvel comic book series “The Avengers,” first published in 1963 and a comics institution ever since. Prepare yourself for an exciting event movie, packed with action and spectacular special effects, when “Marvel’s The Avengers” assemble in summer 2012.’ The team his the UK on April 27th.
